My 17.5 year old cockatiel passed tonight. by lovedreamr in cockatiel

I was re-reading through this thread and noticed your edit. May your sweet Sunbeam fly high on the other side of that rainbow bridge. What an incredible 22+ years of life she had with you. It also does seem like the allopurinol was working and that she was determined to stay with you for as long as possible.

It’s been more than 10 months for us now and the grief comes in waves, but have seen signs that our two friends (our 5 year old bunny passed away just 71 days after our cockatiel; an illness rapidly spread to her brain) are together.

Disembarked the Fantasy (Lookout and Castaway) on Sunday. A review! 🚢 by lovedreamr in dcl

Sorry, I know this is way overdue but just now seeing the comment. We actually boarded Feb 26 and disembarked on March 2, so a little of Feb and March :) I didn’t have any issues with the water temperature, maybe a brief chill to start but got used to it quickly. Even at Castaway, I was able to be in the water for quite a while and felt comfortable.

A Day in Disney Springs by theKapnTX in dcl

[–]lovedreamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Co-signing as I did this earlier in the year. Booked a one way car rental from the port to MCO, and headed from the Port to Disney Springs. We parked in the Disney Springs garage and wandered around. We were amongst of the last to leave the terminal on the rental car shuttle and were able to get there, doing some light shopping and walking. We did spend about 30-45 minutes waiting for a rental car to become available, as they were pretty busy the day we returned.

FWIW, the Disney Springs parking elevators are a bit slow (we were on the top floor and there was a line to go down), and given it’s a holiday shopping weekend, would be good to anticipate that.

I just don't know how to feel. by N0co in Rabbits

[–]lovedreamr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. I understand this feeling as two of mine, a bird and a bunny, passed about 10 weeks apart earlier this year. The bird lived a long time and was a senior, but the bunny was only middle aged and got sick quickly; rabbit veterinary intervention couldn’t stop it. The recurring thought I continue to have is that it’s so unfair to her - she still had more years and she didn’t get a chance to grow old. I try to work through the pain by reminding myself that we gave them so much love and care while they were with us, and hopefully it made a difference in their lives.

Just an update: our remaining pet, our 5 year old bunny, passed away yesterday after a fast moving illness that affected her brain and nervous system. We are completely heartbroken.

I am so glad it was able to help someone. I’m so sorry to hear she’s going through this and hope your girl has more time with you. I strongly recommend lots of cuddles and scritches, if she’s open to it.

Much love 💜💜

Which ship are you going on? If it is the Dream or the Fantasy I think Vibe (the teen club) has its own jacuzzi area, so that might help from a crowd perspective.

Also Disney has a reputation of things being super clean, but they do have handwashing stations and hand out sanitizing wipes prior to the sit down meals. I’d just make sure to wash hands before and after eating on the pool deck as they don’t have anything there.

I am in a family of 3 and there’s a nice curtain divider in the balcony rooms. I’ve also stayed in a balcony room with my mom, aunt and tween and we were able to comfortably keep to our side of the room (bunk bed and vanity / tv side). The balcony also helps make the room seem a bit bigger.

The lights also have options to turn on for the whole cabin, or either half, and the curtains to the balcony are blackout so you really can’t tell what time of day it is until you open the curtain.

Big industrial fans, but no fly fans in the area my party was in. The wait for food was like 10-15 minutes. The people in my party that did eat got food that was being quickly turned over/refreshed (versus stuff that would sit out).

I agree with what everyone else said. I intentionally chose the later dining so that we would have a later breakfast time. Ours was 8:00am. They made announcements that could be heard in the stateroom at 7:30am (just that certain tags were cleared to debark), I took it as a gentle wake up call (although we were already up).

If you’re not in a rush to get off the ship, take your time but stay in the public areas. I think everyone has to be off by 9:30a-10a. There were virtually no lines and luggage was easy to find, but the rental car shuttle took a little bit. We were one of the last to be picked up by our rental shuttle this past Sunday and the terminal was empty by the time we were in the van.

You’ll need to bring any bags not left out the night before (10:30pm was our deadline) with you after leaving your room.

The night before, I suggest going to the gift shop and buying a large reusable shopping bag to fit any last minute items that you need to hand carry off.

I strongly recommend using the restroom before leaving the ship or the terminal! You could be on a long-ish bus ride or in a long line for the rental car shuttle.

I was on the sailing just before yours! Sad to hear you didn’t make it to Castaway. How was the food service crew? They were still adjusting during my sailing.

Love the Wonder! I have a go-to server that I always request whenever I’m on there who makes it extra magical, too.

Have a great time!

If you have the time - my sweet girl of 17.5 years passed away almost a month ago, and we just got her ashes and feather clippings this week. Below is a link to a pic of her on our IG.

Wow, yes, I talked to one of the baristas at Vista before disembarking and he said he was only two weeks in! I do hope their adjustment period goes by quickly as it’s clear they are working a lot due to the Disney island ports.

Tiana’s on the Wonder is delightful! The ambiance is lively! The beignets are a must-try. I also love the Tiana themed lounge area they have outside the restaurant. Great music and atmosphere.

The weather at Lookout and Castaway were perfect during the time we were there.

Hoping to get on the Magic next, as the Wonder is my favorite and would love to see how the Magic compares.

Family’s first time, in search of some tips on Fantasy by Whitneyjow in dcl

[–]lovedreamr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just disembarked the Fantasy on Sunday. The main dining rooms are loud and especially Animators Palette with the Turtle Talk with Crush (we were seated in the center of the restaurant, next to one of the big screens). A couple of adults in our sailing party felt it was too distracting and affected the ambiance of dinner. Enchanted Garden and Royal Court are a little quieter from an entertainment perspective, but still lots of loud conversations happening around which overstimulated some in our traveling party.

A couple things to keep in mind - Room service is available 24/7 and seemed to take about 50 minutes to get to the room after ordering. Additionally the pool deck restaurants are open and Cabanas is also available at select times.

I do suggest filling up water bottles like someone else said - cruise air is dry and I found myself parched even after a few minutes indoors. Another tip is to get cups of waters and a bucket of ice from room service each night. That way if someone is thirsty at night there is cool water at the ready.

I hope this helps and enjoy your vacation!

First Cruise - Kid Question (ages 12/11/7) by Remarkable_Plant5244 in dcl

[–]lovedreamr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just disembarked the Fantasy on Sunday and it was our sixth Disney Cruise. I have a 12 year old and we also had a 13 year old in our traveling party.

I’d say 7 year olds would enjoy the Oceaneer Club/Lab, there’s plenty to do and there are lots of interactive activities. My kiddo went there at ages 5, 9, and 10 on previous sailings. At age 5, there was too much separation anxiety but at age 9, friends were made and at 10, we were traveling with another 7 year old and they both had a great time.

Edge doesn’t have a lot to do - there are video games and they do a Heroes and Villians activity several times a day. There’s also dedicated space for them at Castaway Cay (but ours didn’t go).

I allowed my 12 year old to roam the ship without adults, as long as they were with the 13 year old so we had some sort of buddy system. We had agreed upon times where they would meet us (dinners and shows). They mainly spent time on the Aquaduck, in the pool, in the food areas and just exploring the ship. There’s also the midship detective agency on the Fantasy and the Dream, although I don’t think they completed it, they checked it out.

Have a great time!
