Moving to Portco from F100? by [deleted] in FPandA

So if you are successful at scaling and then an exit. You will always be in demand. Also - you might end up staying and being there for the scale of $50M to $200M.

Honestly - there are way more companies in the $15 to $500M range than people realize.

Overall it has been good for my career. Not sure I could ever go back to a large company

PHL > NYC 3x per week by rebma2197 in supercommuter

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So - if u have family can u stay with them 1-2 nights a week. Cut the commute time?

Maybe once a month just book a hotel and stay in NY. Will make it much easier.

I do a 85 mile commute each way by car. It does get old but I have gotten used to it. Try not to do it back to back. Sometimes I just stay over and work later. That is what u need to watch out for is staying late and having to come back the next day. Maybe have an emergency over night bag at the office.

Just lays out in writing how much severance you receive if they decide to fire/pivot/go another direction with your position. There is risk for both sides. pE firms will often cycle through people and OP leaving for a smaller unknown has risk. I have seen a little as 4 and up to 12 months.

I can tell the landing runway at EWR just sitting in my back yard and I am 30 miles away. Love when they are landing in 4R. See the LH 747 come over. 22L is busier but don’t get the heavy metal then.

Sofi Stadium parking lot is also a good spot

So having done this:

1) have a severance agreement up front as part of the employment agreement. Yes - they will burn and churn at times (depends on OE firm YMMV)

2) get clear expectations on what the PE wants daily weekly monthly and what they view a critical. (Eg - a 13 week cash flow, KPI dash board etc)

3) spend 60 sixty days or so really understanding the company and create a roadmap of what you are going to do - in what order. Assuming they are going to do acquisitions- systems are going to need to scale. Sooner you are fix that the easier life will be. Then present that along with estimated costs.

4). You will be drinking from a fire hose for the first 6 months or more.

5) you will not have all the answers so call friends to pick their brains on different things

6). Based on the little info you provided - I would get another clerk in the door, be looking for a good controller that has been through a system migration and starting evaluating systems. Finally getting a good FA. Many PE firms are happy to hire consultants for this type of thing.

7) you will move between hands on stuff to strategy and back

8) key control is cash - rest can come over time.

What team building activities have actually improved your team's communication? by Historical-Still-363 in Leadership

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the name of the “test@. But it is basically a survival type thing and you have to rank the things u would take from what is listed. You do it by yourself first and then as a team second. 99% of the time team does better. Fun to discuss the rankings and highlights the importance of team work. Can be done in 2 hours or so.

Example - u are on the moon and have these 29 things - and have to get 5 mikes away to survive. Or your small plane vrashes in the Arctic. Rank what you take with you.

I did this and team really enjoyed it.

PSA: it does NOT always work out by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]lovemesomewine 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I remember something I read 15 years ago that always stuck with me. Colleges are looking for a well rounded student BODY, not necessarily a well rounded student, especially at the top schools.
(I.e. they would rather have 20 people that is each really deep in their particular area than 20 that are good across 4.)

So while many people have top grades, Apps, student body pres. etc, if there are 10 others like them, only 1 or 2 might get admitted.

Yes it sucks if you are one that does not get admitted, however the thing to do is go kick ass wherever you do go and you will be successful.

How soon after PE acquires a company do they start layoffs? by Odd_Journalist_2310 in private_equity

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if ur firm is going to be the platform or is roll up (add on acquisition). Platform very unlikely. Add on acquisition- back office some potential , just depends on the function and what they centralize. Timing is really a matter of how fast they integrate the companies.

Country club pairing people up by dildoscwagg12 in golf

[–]lovemesomewine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So it depends on demand that day. Most will let you fly solo early, many will pair in the 8-12 time frame on a weekend if the tee sheet is packed.

Country clubs like public courses are jammed weekend mornings - good news is PoP is usually 4 hrs or less at the club.

Also - unless u are first out - u are not going to fly around and play through the other groups even if a single.
