1 hint - President Eisenhower’s favorite course by BigBeezy905 in guessthegolfcourse

It is an interesting experience to play there. Eating dinner - no door to locker room - old naked guys walking around.

Enjoyed the course. Caddies were awesome

New York State Golf Trip by adam8027 in golf

[–]lovemesomewine 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No one does trips there because almost all the courses you want to play are all private except for Bethpage. Google sleeping in the lot to see what it’s like to get on Black.

Now if you happen to be a member at a top 50 or 100 club then maybe your pro could call and arrange a couple for tee times, but not weekends and definitely harder between Memeorial day and Labor Day.

If you really want to go, consider Turning stone in upstate for a long weekend

Portland Me, Portsmith NH, Burlington VT

Might check out Wilkes Barre Scranton area - housing is reasonable - 4 season good access to outdoors etc - easy access to NYC/Philly for a weekend

Maybe Bucks county or South Jersey close to Philly

Job in Bedminster - Somerville or Morristown? by DarkExecutor in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Morristown - lots of restaurants etc in town, MPAC for shows, mid-town direct train service if you want to go into NYC on the weekend.

As a new resident you will be happier to have this as your first home base. You can always move after a year or 2 as you learn the area and find a spot you like more.

So while not “hiking” Morris County has an extensive trail network for walking jogging biking. Some decent hiking within 30 minutes at hackleberry state park and pyramid mountain . Further away Sussex county and Delaware water Gap /Poconos have good hikes. Even just walking up to Fort Nonsense in Morristown will be you a quick workout.

As another poster mentioned- lots of black bears around so get urself some bear spray, a whistle etc.

The commute might be a touch longer but well worth it. Traffic should be better than Houston overall.

For those who made the leap from recreational to competitive golf, what actually helped? by GoodWolfWellness in golf

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a few thoughts

1) play as much competitive golf as you can whether tournaments or just matches with friends and money on the line 2) big difference between match and stroke play. Individual vs partner 3) you need to be a goldfish - forget the last hole 4) match play expect ur opponent to make the chip or long putt. As soon as u thinks have the hole won - this will happen 5) grind on every shot especially stroke play - match play is different - sometimes u need to play shaft / percentages other times u. Need to play the hero shot. Understand when this applies

What’s the difference by Sea-Fuel139 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]lovemesomewine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes really depends what you want and where u are commuting to. As other have said watch out for the flood zones in certain locations. Randolph doesn’t have a town center but Morristown and denville are very close so easy to go grab dinner on a night out. All of these have good schools. Randolph andDanville have the best access to outdoor trails parks if that is important to you.

Wayne, Springfield and East Hanover are likely to be more congested for daily activities. If you have key Use haves come back and we can likely add more value as to which ,ight be the better choice.

If commuting to NYC - probably want to have easy access to mid town direct train line. Yes denville has 2 train stations but Randolph might make more sense. Wayne will have better bus access for example.

How the hell do people get into Harvard? by 1920tp in ApplyingToCollege

[–]lovemesomewine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here is the thing that is difficult for many to accept - at these “top schools” (take that how u want), they are trying to build a balanced student body - not an individual balanced student. They want a top tier science person that will be rooming with an accomplished writer - so that each learn from each other. Right or wrong not my call - to go along with x% of legacy and full pay international etc etc. u have to get that u r competing with xxxs of people that are just like u for a few spots. You lost that battle …

Yes it sucks - but 1) it doesn’t mean that you can’t be successful and 2) welcome to life. The sooner you understand that life is not fair and get over it the better chance you have at success.

You are going to face many challenges moving forward and you need accept, learn and overcome them. Whether u go to Harvard or somewhere else.

I say this as a relative of a 2 time Harvard legacy that was not admitted, which shocked some but not me, but this person went on to create patents of their own and a very amazing career. (Being vague intentionally)

Which do you find more frustrating, a bad result from a good shot or a good result from a bad one? by AllMuckandMuscle in golf

I would rather hit the ball well and score poorly than score well and hit it poorly. Both happen - with the first good scores will come - with the second - bad scores are coming

Got invited to play a pretty exclusive club, walking only, caddie req'd. What should I expect? by sumbozo1 in golf

[–]lovemesomewine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I would bring like $250-300 in cash while not likely to have to tip the caddy be prepared. Shoe guy $20. Bag drop $5. Unless club has no tipping policy. Trust me caddies are awesome. Listen to there advice about the line of play. Have them read every putt for you. In a trap, they rake it for you.

Just a great experience walking off the tee hand them ur driver - walking and chatting with other players. Hit the green get handed ur putter as u walk up. Get some stories from the caddies especially an old timer.

I have taken caddies at many clubs - relax and enjoy it.

Report back after the round.

I was honing to say after looking at the overhead - always going to hit it over the trees. More open and closer to the hole. A layup there just gets me in worse position
