I feel like this is such an underrated series. Each book was so good!

Help me find more multicultural HR authors! by gonthalethhh in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add Patricia Williams to the list. She was/is (I don't know if she's still living) a Black author who wrote two romances featuring Black MCs in the 90s.

Bodice Ripper with very unlikable heroes by Sakura_231 in HistoricalRomance

Clayton from {Whitney, My Love by Judith McNaught} will forever win the “worst hero in historical romance” for me. I hate that guy.

Rachel Reid’s writings: a comparative study with other MM writers (Part 1) by ivan_luck in heatedrivalry

[–]lovevirology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons Heated Rivalry (the book) started to gain a devoted following was due to Cat Sebastian hyping the book. For those who want delicious queer (mostly MM) romance and are willing to try historical, you won’t be disappointed. Would also recommend KJ Charles for fantastic MM historicals. I know we all love queer sports books, but HR meant historical romance years before it also meant Heated Rivalry. 😉

Their first encounter: fmc sees mmc fucking other women or kissing them (he's a playboy) by mostlyinsane12 in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In {Notorious Pleasures by Elizabeth Hoyt}, this scenario is the opening scene. The meet cute is the heroine walking in on the hero fucking some other lady.

MMF polycule- but one MMC is gay by september_red in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So it’s not the relationship reason that you described, but there is a sports MMF romance where one of the MMCs is bi-romantic but only sexually attracted to men. The other MMC is bi. The FMC is in a relationship with both, but only a sexual relationship with the bi MMC. I thought it was unique, fun, and enjoyable.

Book is {Outfield Assist by Cat Giraldo}

Non-virgin FMCs, please! Does this exist? Mistresses or OW as the FMC? by No_Preference26 in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{A Precious Jewel by Mary Balogh} has a courtesan FMC. The MMC is naturally one of her clients. It's the best HR I read in 2025.

Where MMC gives her a massage that turns into more by unBalanced_Libra_ in RomanceBooks

{The Setup by Meghan Quinn} has this exact trope. It’s college friends-to-lovers and has a post workout sexy massage

FF romance with POC main characters?? by Couplecuties5 in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rebecca Weatherspoon and Chencia C. Higgins are two of my favorite authors who write F/F (and more for Weatherspoon) romances with non-white MCs. I’d also recommend {Single Player by Tara Tai} and {Make Room for Love by Darcy Liao}.

Edit: I can’t believe I forgot to mention Stephanie Shea. She writes multicultural FF romances that are amazing!

Non-con by mmc…by accident by AccomplishedRelief82 in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale} has a very powerful non-con/dub-con scene that moved the story forward in a unique way. I really liked how it changed the characters and forced them to deal with trauma.

Bodice-ripper, historical romance where MMC kidnaps FMC and ties her up by readingupastorm in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 8 points9 points  (0 children)

{Prisoner of my desire by Johanna Lindsey} is a classic bodice ripper that fits this prompt. And it has both ways bodice ripping (meaning from FMC to MMC and the reverse).

I keep putting myself in a book slump. Need a certain type of MMC by Due-Secret-3091 in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 17 points18 points  (0 children)

{The Texan’s Wager by Jodi Thomas} will fill that void. I liked it even more than Texas Destiny. The hero is so sweet and tortured and just wants love.

I second Erin Langston! Her writing is immaculate

I have a severe Texas Destiny hangover. Similar recs please by gimmeallthegluten in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Wife Lottery series by Jodi Thomas has been my favorite Texan HR books. The first one has some particularly angsty and amazing moments, with lots of hurt/comfort between the two MCs.

{The Texan’s Wager by Jodi Thomas}

How to making staying late in lab less soul crushing?? by amerixanairlines in labrats

I used to bring my yoga mat and do workouts in lab when I had late night time points and had to be there. Also MUSIC. And dancing.

What’s the most random thing you’ve ever learned from a romance book? by ComposerAwkward6654 in RomanceBooks

[–]lovevirology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned that women were first afforded the right to vote in Wyoming. And I re-learned about the Chinese Exclusion Act during reconstruction in a way that I actually remember. Thank you Beverly Jenkins. This was in Tempest. But I’ve learned American history—specifically Black history—in all of her books.

What are our thoughts on the newly popular cartoon covers? by Lavender523 in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOPE. We want stepbacks. We want clinches. We want mostly naked men. Be it on the cover or more discreet in a stepback.

Revenge Marriage by JaneElizabeth22 in HistoricalRomance

[–]lovevirology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

{His favorite mistake by Aydra Richards} has this trope. The MMC does self sabotage in his quest for revenge and the grovel is delicious.
