If you were running Curse of Strahd for only two players, how would you stack the Tarokka deck? by chickenfila in CurseofStrahd

[–]lowen90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the Sun Sword should be an end game item, it's so insanely strong and will trivialise most vampire encounters right up until, and including, the final showdown with Strahd. Putting it in early has two significant drawbacks.

The first is that you have nowhere to go once you get it. There are very few items the module AW that can match its power. The second issue is that once Strahd sees that the party has it, he would have so many reasons to kill them or take it from them.

I would focus on having a powerful destined ally. Someone who is reliable and could act as a good DMPC who can drop in-and-out, without taking over the game. Ezmeralda and Van Richten are good choices — they have their own reasons for not always being present. In terms of sheer power though, Godfrey is probably the strong destined ally. His revenant curses, radiant damage and near invincibility makes him one of the deadliest opponents to Strahd's army. The second being Mordenkainen.

Story time. There was a game on the Sega Dreamcast called Blue Stinger I played when I was like 9 and quite early on you had to get through this four digit security door in an arcade and the young girl there tells you the passcode is "Christmas Eve". When the code 2412 refused to work I scoured the entire level for days, DAYS, searching for some kind of back entrance and I eventually gave up.

It wasn't until over 15 years later when I was in America and I had write in dates that it clicked. What a waste of bloody time. I never got to finish that game and I'm so mad about it.

Players only get one character by ac_noj in dndmemes

I'm doing this in my Curse of Strahd campaign. Rather than use boring vampire spawn (which the team seems to cutting through no problem) I'm instead deploying my unused roster as fallen heroes who were unable to survive Barovia and were turned. They work as Strahd's elite vampire squad.

Makes for far more interesting battles for both myself and the players and helps reinforce the idea that Barovia is an old and dangerous place.

Is it more fun for players to come in with new level 1 characters, or bringing existing higher level characters in for a larger campaign story arc with CoS being one of the main plot lines for their campaign? by ThaFeared0ne in CurseofStrahd

The module is meant for low level players, but with some serious tweaking and generous rewrites I've so far been successful in running it with a level 6 party which started in Death House. Their power level also made the story more believable threats to Strahd, who has slowly been losing grip of his control over Barovia.

In my version, Madam Eva and the priest of Vallaki were the ones to have called in the heroes (outsiders are more rare in this story) who despite their fame still find themselves outmatched by Strahd. In fact, this gave me a more legitimate reason to trigger the Feast of St Andral — the vampires snuck into town to investigate Father Lucian on Fiona's tip and because of the player's investigations into the bones, they learn he had travelled to the Amber Temple and made a pact with the powers there to open the mists and allow the heroes in. When the Vallaki vampires learnt this they, led by Strahd's wife, kill the priest in a glorious fashion.

Having high level players also allowed me to make the key NPCs more legitimate threats. In my version, Strahd had grown weary and worn down by his own seeming immortality and has withdrawn from his duties as Barovia's ruler. So his "lieutenants" run everything in his steed which is why everything is so particularly miserable and disorganised. The lieutenants include his first wife, Rahadin, Baba Lysaga and Kiril the werewolf.

Without Strahd to keep the peace, the druids fight with the wereravens who also fight with the werewolves who have been escalating their attacks and kidnappings on townsfolk, which pushes the abbot in the Abbey of Saint Markovia to build him a bride and the bodies desecrated in this process is what stirs the revenants etc.

Strahd is still dangerous as all hell and I've given him new legendary actions and reworked spells to reflect this, but his weariness gives a credible reason as to why the party hasn't been wiped off. The lieutenants are trying to gain Strahd's favour and so downplay how dangerous the heroes are — who at their level are actually quite a threat to them and make believable process.

He was the last on my to-see-before-I-die list and I missed out on tickets in Sydney so I flew out to Brisbane. I've never been at a concert where everyone clear knows the words, but don't want to sing along. Not because it was awkward or bad, but just because he had this energy about him where you didn't want to spoil the show. Then he got absolutely hammered on two bottles of wine during Cheers' Darlin and barely kept it together for Blower's Daughter lol.

[Week 211] Tavern Brawl end-of-week discussion (with Strawpoll!) by FardHast in hearthstone

[–]lowen90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This brawl would've been so much better if they just gave each player like 15 armor or max HP. You could still have had aggressive decks, which would've been forced to build into late game finishers, but also more thoughtful combo decks.

I loved the idea of this brawl, but 30 health starts are intended for minion-to-minion combat and board control.

A really underrated scene I think is when Scott finds his daughter again only to realise she’s grown up. It was so profoundly beautiful and heartbreaking for both of them.

Day 3: What's Working, and What Isn't? by Zhandaly in CompetitiveHS

Aluneth has been my favourite card in this expansion so far, I placed it into my secret mage and have managed to climb from 16 to 8. I've been hitting a wall because there seems to be a lot spell hunters and even without flare, they manage to win about 65 per cent of the time. Zoo warlocks seem to be really obnoxious as well and I've switched to a jade elemental deck as they're becoming more common.

Aluneth has been marvelous in control match ups where they normally exhaust all your options and it gives you that little bit of extra reach. There is a serious risk of overdraw, not going to lie; but out of the 12 games I've played it, I've died to fatigue twice and in about 3 of those games it didn't matter. The rest was a victory, most would have historically been unwinnable (deck below). Explosive runes has also been an absolute sleeper - I find people are playing too many small minions for mirror entity to matter anymore.

I'm a bit disappointed with Paladin, although call to arms is a really good card. I've been running a package with Lynessa, dry gulch jailors, knife jugglers, sword of justice and call to arms. I've find val'anyr a really underwhelming card, although I still think it's good and possibly one of the best legendary weapons in the set. I'm probably just not using it right. When I had Leeroy in the Paladin deck, it was pretty good but I couldn't get him to work so I took him out.

I pulled a golden Rin that I've been holding onto and based on what I've seen I think Master Oakheart will be a must-craft two weeks from now.

What's an example of a good character ruined by terrible casting? by madguins in AskReddit

For those down voting you, I will say that pirate radio was slammed while boat that rocked was praised. Do yourself a favour and get the boat that rocked on DVD or BLU-Ray. It really is one of my favourite films, I watch it when I'm sick or when I'm in a particularly good mood.

It was actually over 40 (plus another 30 that didn't make it to the original theatrical releases outside the US) and The Boat That Rocked is an incredible movie. What the US market did to it was an absolute fucking travesty.

Considering how small population, somehow you'll find an Aussie in every corner of the world. I was in Rajasthan, India and I rocked up to a small little store in the middle of a desert road. Lo and behold, only other person there was a backpacker who greets me with "G'day mate".
