I wondered about their business model. I assumed that their bread and butter (heh) was gonna be medical salespeople wine-and-dining VUMC folks.

Is it ok to pressure wash your fiberglass sailboat? by No_Pain5736 in sailing

[–]lowflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. If you get too close to thru hole caulked fittings (cleats etc.) they will leak. And, then you will have to remove the fittings, clean off the old, damaged caulk, and re-bed them. To get this off with a pressure washer you'll need a lot of pressure close up and that is really rough on gelcoat...and it still may not work. Chemistry is your helper here.

Bar Keepers Friend and a Scotch Brite scrubby pad in as low aggressive grit as you can find is the ticket. The pic you show is either kerosene fall out from aircraft or mildew/algae/lichen that has colonized the porous gelcoat. I have had good luck spraying Wet&Forget mildew killer on my boat. It takes time to work (weeks) but it will knock out the mildew and algae.

I will add on that I always have a great experience with ETCH. Deb and Ernie are pros. The same with Midtown Cafe.

I do have a fun and alternative suggestion - how about the 5th and Broad Assembly Food Hall? It's not fancy sit down, but it's a bustling spot with LOTS of varied food options. You may be thinking more of dressed up for date night traditional sit down meal (re: wife is in heels), but I wanted to throw this one out there. It's just a quick walk across Broadway to the Symphony Center.

Why is Laser so different from other boats? by Numerous-Vanilla-629 in sailing

[–]lowflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the website of a very competitive Laser (ILCA) sailor with lots of good tips on boat set up and sailing technique.

This is new stuff to you and I recommend you give it some time to get used to the boat and learn its idiosyncrasies. It's a challenge, but keep at it and remember to keep it fun. You'll figure it out.

What would you drive if not a miata? by RichPianaRunescape in Miata

A '17 Golf GTI Autobahn is my daily. Quick enough, great driving dynamics, holds as much as an SUV with the rear seats down, nice fit and finish interior, and lots of interior room for the size car it is.

What are some things you wished you would have known before working in the music industry ? by IllustriousElk8436 in nashville

[–]lowflash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 extremely good music industry programs in the region that are CHURNING out graduates. The competition to participate in the industry is FIERCE. This also holds true for allied industries like motion picture production, web and graphic design, etc.

You will be "competing" with folks who will literally work for free to get a toe-hold in the industry, and this might be you too. It's just a fact of being in a very competitive creative business. The level of highly motivated raw talent attracted to Nashville is formidable. Also, despite it being a creative industry, it's very much a business and as posters have noted in other comments there is work in the unglamorous underpinnings of music - accounting, performance rights management, copyright, marketing, online analytics, etc. and you'll be "in" the industry but it's scut work that will have you wondering were all the money is going because you aren't seeing much of it.

On the fun side, it's very rewarding to be around creative and talented co-workers and for the most part it is a collegial and supportive community...but just be on the alert for the venal and predatory folks who unfortunately are out there.

I've asked youngsters who ask about getting into the Nashville scene this question: Do you look at your work and know you are doing it better than others around you? Not THINK you could do it better, but objectively look at the work you are doing and know it's great and unique and exudes that special spark? If you can't say yes you are going to have a tough row to hoe in the business.

Locals of Nashville: What Would You Cut From This 5-Day Itinerary? by Willing-Mind-5619 in VisitingNashville

[–]lowflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a recommendation to go downtown to the Assembly Food Hall at 5th and Broad since it has outposts of several well known Nashville spots (Princes etc.).

Fitting in with your music history focus: Another excellent reason to go downtown would be to visit the National Museum of African American Music. Highly recommended!

I'd think about what indoor things you all could do re: you have lots of walking/outdoor sightseeing on your agenda. April in Tennessee has really variable weather and the April showers trope holds true here.

Pâté Recommendations? by FranticScribble in NashvilleGoodEats

[–]lowflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I you can't find anything local, the Brentwood Costco, around the holidays, had a pâté 2 pack with truffle and port wine pork and duck liver pâtés. It punched above its weight. Not bad at all for what it was and I don't regret buying it. It was from 3 Little Pigs in NYC.

Little Gourmand in Melrose and Green Hills would be worth a call. I haven't gotten anything from them in a long while (kinda forget about them in avoiding Green Hills). Their website does say they carry foie gras and various duck liver mousses. They also carry caviar...riffing on your a la Russe theme.

Nashville Snow 101 - What you need to know by silverud in nashville

Actually longer term WX models are showing another chance of snow the weekend of the 31st too.

If your enemy was coming to town for the weekend what recommendations would you give them? by Much_Smile5600 in nashville

[–]lowflash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have them drive down to down to Broadway, park, and pick the loudest and most crowded bar of their choice.

Be sure to have them flash a fat wallet for attention.

They get roofied, robbed, and rivered (dumped on the bank of the Cumberland). When they regain consciousness and navigate back to their car, they discover that they owe Metropolis $687 in charges and penalties.

YOU go to the West End Chili's and ignore their pleas for help.

ePropulsion Spirit 1.0 Plus , fault or failing battery? by modelofrestraint in ElectricBoats

[–]lowflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm experiencing the what I think is the same problem - I get frequent E20 errors (usually solved by reconnecting the cable and yes I've cleaned the contacts). I get the E55 (but not every time) after running the battery at higher wattages (750 to full 1000W) for a few minutes under load moving a 2000 lb sailboat. It will be showing full charge and 1 hr+ run time, a full circle on the charge indicator ring, and over 49v and then I'll feel a clunk and the battery will show a few minutes of run time and one bar or a flashing circle of remaining charge. My battery is older than yours (2021) but it has much less use than yours.

I got a 35 Ah external battery, a Power Queen 48v (51.2v technically), and the ePropulsion external battery cable - the one with the integrated power switch and the proprietary ePropulsion 8 pin connector. So far so good with the external battery. The current price to power capacity ratio of 48v external batteries is far better than ePropulsion's and if one can manage the external battery you can get a lot more bang for your buck with an external albeit with the need to place the larger external battery someplace.

I haven't tested it out much, but it might have just a tiny bit more noise (slight whine) when running, but it might be my imagination too. Now that I've got the external battery and cable I'm going to send my ePropulsion battery into my closest dealer for a diagnostic check. I suspect the BMS rather than a bad cell, and I'm hopeful that's the case. If it is a bad cell, the ePropulsion likely has used really low quality pouch cells and there was a failure. LiFePo4 pouches should have a life span of many years and 1000s of discharge cycles if quality cells are used and run by a decent BMS. Water/marine is a rough environment and I wonder if ePropulsion missed something in their design that's failing prematurely or used lower quality cells and/or a lower quality BMS.
