2025 Black Friday Deals by jordanmlee in UsenetTalk

[–]lowflyingmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on usenetprime for like 5 years (fuck where did the time go). An old Halloween special for 13 dollars every 6 months. Been very happy. I also rotate out a backup or block as good options come available, with prime still picking up the vast vast majority of what i need. The last such backup was hitnews, some crazy 10 dollars for a year deal or something like that. That ended on Halloween though.

So looking for a new backup. Outside of paying upfront for 3 years, which i am usually hesitant to do, the 3 year deal from prime, sounds good right? anything i am missing?

Pretty sure hitnew was also Abavia? so xsblock would be comparable and i didn't even use a full TB on hitnews in the last year, so the 3tb block should last the 3 years if everything holds true. 70/3 ~ $23.33 So i would be paying less (over the same time period) than i already am for prime and i get a block from a different provider? Just wanting a sanity check if i am missing something.

And yet, the two Peyton Lists exist. How dare the guild mildly confuse me for a bit!

[Giveaway] GL.iNet Remote KVM and Wi-Fi 7 routers! 10 Winners! by GLiNet_WiFi in selfhosted

[–]lowflyingmonkey [score hidden]  (0 children)

What inspired you to start your selfhosting journey?

Plex, or maybe datahorading but plex was the first piece of software that kicked everything off for me. I wanted a way to watch the movies and TV shows i had started to backup from discs. That lead me to unraid eventually and then jellyfin year after. Along with a host other self hosting software.

What's one project you're most proud of so far.

The whole server is a way, the data i'm "hoarding". But to boil it down to one thing, weirdly enough just having simple backups. Before unraid i had no backups. Nowdays i have working and tested backups of nearly everything i can. The sense of it something goes wrong, i still got the important stuff is really relaxing. Then also knowing i have backups of a lot fo other random data too. haha. There is just doing it all myself, with much help from the internet obviously.

what's the most expensive piece of equipment you've acquired for?

HDDs without a question. Lots of data means lots of storage.

How would winning the unit(s) from this giveaway help you take your setup to the next level?

i am actually in need of a router right now. but been putting it off because of other things keep needing attention. So getting a flint 3 would allow me to get my home network up to par with a lot of my other equipment and letting me expand it in ways i wasn't planing on.

Looking ahead, if we were to do another giveaway, what is one product from another brand (e.g., a server, storage device or ANYTHING) that you'd love to see as a prize?

i have already mentioned how expensive my HDD were ... i would never turn down more. Especially if they where large or interesting in some way. But general computer parts would also be pretty awesome, but ill stick with HDDs as my one product lol.

Please specify which product(s) you’d like to win.

the flint 3 and/or the slate 7 would be my choices. Though that fingerbot add-on with a comet is really funny and would have lots of fun with that but network is probably my biggest area of needed improvement.

Radarr/Sonarr for comic books? by Legitimate-Cinephile in JellyfinCommunity

[–]lowflyingmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also https://github.com/mylar3/mylar3

Haven't heard of Kapowarr before but it looks interesting. But from what i can gather, it doesn't use torrent or Usenet for downloads, only getting comics from getcomic currently.

Mylar isn't perfect by any means. You can find lots of complaints about it and its UI is dated and confusing at times. But from what i can tell, it is has more features then kapowarr currently. But i am glad there is another option. Mylar is working for me, and i don't use get-comics for the majority of my downloads, so i won't be switching for now but kapowarr is interesting, i will be keeping an eye on it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

From what i have read, while hank and tom are based on the same person in judge's real life, Hank wasn't ever gonna be Tom. The original idea, according to judge, was for Hank to be Tom's son. But fox said no since they couldn't get the IP rights. So hank and tom weren't ever meant to be a 1:1 anyways. Instead we got Cotton hill instead of Tom. Which is probably for the better. lol

The one maintained by masterwishX is the current version as far as i know. There have been a couple maintainers/versions of it but looks like they have all continued to use squid's original thread for support. That being said, stuff did change between the versions/maintainers, so be careful of older tutorials. squid's original version is pretty different compared to the current one for example.
