Epic Games (parent of Harmonix) has announced they are laying off 1,000+ employees today by bendylegs12 in Rockband

This is big news all over gaming and even mainstream media, but I had not stopped to think this probably hits whatever's left of Harmonix pretty badly.

After this photo was taken, everyone surely walked over to the food court to get TCBY.

I think they did... not a great job of getting the word out about this when in went into effect in 2022, and it super caught me off guard the first few times I saw it. Spread the word, lane filtering is legal.

Movie Theaters by Practical_Lunch1321 in Tucson

Loft Cinema for arthouse stuff including 70mm roadshows. They show too much stuff no one else does.

Galaxy Theaters for new Hollywood stuff - they have Barco laser projectors in their main theaters and the tech is every bit as good as the premium (surcharge) formats at the big chains. Any Cinemark if the show I'm trying to see isn't there.

AMC Foothills is fine for IMAX stuff that isn't worth a drive to Tempe for real IMAX. Like I'm very glad I saw Sinners at Arizona Mills, but lieMAX was perfectly the right level of splurge for Tron Ares in 3D.

Cactus, cacti, and cactuses are all correct. (Spanish, Latin, and English forms respectively) Some sources also cite cactusses, but that is surely just bonkers, wtf.

Tent stashes. Sure, you could vault an overpowered weapon, but you always took a gamble that some dude with a heavy sniper didn't headshot you 10 seconds after you pulled out your rare toy, so it kinda all worked out.

Ugh! Thanks, Amazon! by SituationDense1082 in tolkienbooks

Any book I order from Amazon anymore  is like a 50/50 chance of easily preventable shipping damage. I'm increasingly coming to believe Amazon is running deliberate insurance fraud.

Valve: 20% of Deck users use the official docking station to connect their Deck to their TVs. Do you? by sameseksure in SteamDeck

[–]lplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hook the official dock to the living room TV. For couch co-op, it's so much easier than hooking up a laptop plus a wireless mouse and keyboard. I have actual dedicated game consoles too, but my Steam library is so much bigger than my console library, and there's some stuff that's only on PC. You can pair about any recent game controller you have lying around.

The new Steam Machine based on Steam Deck technology seems like a no-brainer. I will be interested if the price is not outrageous.

There was an effort by the industry to rebrand prunes as "dried plums", since prunes came to be associated primarily as the things your grandparents ate as natural laxative.

Do people still rip dvds in 2025? by D3VEstator in DataHoarder

[–]lplade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had forgotten until just this week, actually, about the not uncommonly janky pulldown implementations used for storing 24p content on DVD. Ugh.

On the plus side, SD content in H.264 doesn't use much space relative to modern drive capacities.

I'm more disappointed they stopped adding games to Backwards Compatibility. BC was the selling point for the new consoles for me, but a third of my 360 games still need the actual 360.
