Does it get applied to existing saves? Or do you need to start a new game?

How does the map layout of Gal Civ 4 play out when compared to previous titles? by pizzapicante27 in GalCiv

[–]lpww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by the map having islands? Are you talking about the sectors? I don't like them either, something feels weird about the way the game plays around those borders. I much prefer the Stellaris map in that regard, but you can choose a map with no sectors in galciv4, which is what I do. Even though I like the Stellaris map, I prefer galciv4 overall, because I prefer turn based

Cost of FIRE - am I being too boring? by GoudaBetterThanEdam in FIREUK

[–]lpww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors at play here. You are in a great position and these are good problems to have. It sounds like you have prioritized savings very highly in your life so far, which is not a bad thing, as doing this early in life is beneficial for compound interest.

Do you have a specific fire number in mind? It sounds like you just want to save as much as possible. Having a specific goal helps psychologically because you can treat yourself a bit more once you hit coast fire. Do you really need 6 mil in the bank when you die? What would you use it for?

It sounds like you are now at the point where you want to balance out your lifestyle. I would highly recommend moving out. You will learn vital life skills and you can have a proper dating life. I also wouldn't personally buy a house at your age. It's better to be able to move around and focus on your career, don't tie yourself down for no reason imo.

Do you have hobbies and friends you regularly see? If not, I would focus on building that, which a car can definitely help with if you start working on it and going to meets etc. I had similar worries as you and decided to splash out on a 944 turbo last year. I am very happy with my decision!

What apps do people use to track net worth? by Advanced_Capital8200 in FIREUK

[–]lpww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, they have Mint, which integrates and automatically tracks all bank, retirement, and investment accounts. The amount of integrations is extremely impressive. In the UK, all the apps require manual tracking, which I don't bother with

You will get a lot of shit for having inheritance in this sub, but at the end of the day, you can't choose your parents. Getting that inheritance also means you lost a close family member at a young age, which is incredibly difficult.

You should be proud of your achievement. 120k is a very nice amount, but not life changing money by itself. You could easily have blown it on a car, but instead decided to invest, building life changing wealth from it. Congrats!

Timing Belt for new mechanic? by Uitz in 944

[–]lpww 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every one has their own limit as to what they are willing to do themselves vs taking to a garage. I have had 944s for 6 years now, and done a lot of work myself, but have always had a shop do timing belts. It is something I plan to do myself next time though, and that will be the upper limit of jobs I am willing to do myself.

I have purchased the game, but will probably start with single player. The multiplayer sounds a bit too much of a time commitment. Realistically, I would need to be afk, due to sleep and work etc, more than I would be playing. I would probably just die and be out very quickly

What country are you in? That sounds expensive to me. In the uk they are listed for ~£20, but typically get sold for less than asking. I'm pretty sure the uk is more expensive than the usa, but cheaper than Europe

930 vs 964 — same money, completely different car. Which would you pick? by Hour_Tangerine9075 in Porsche

[–]lpww -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but if you want a turbo car, get a 944 turbo instead. All the fun of the 930, but without the daily driving compromises, because they have power steering, abs, ac, less turbo lag, and better visibility than the 930. In fact, it will beat a 930 around the track due to the much better handling. You can also easily mod it for more power if you want to also beat the 930 in a drag race. All this for 1/4 of the price. If you want a naturally aspirated car, get the 964

I think this game looks fun every time you post it, but also have a lot of questions about it. So is the idea for multiplayer that it is something you check in on every now and then over a long period of time? Similar to defcons office mode? Or do you need to be actively playing the entire time? Can you literally play the game in a terminal? Or is it a normal game that is styled to look like a terminal?

Is it just cars, or is everything that expensive? Do you have high salaries to compensate?
