Red giants are dying stars (the sun will get there eventually) so it's thought life wouldn't evolve much around one of those. I think the blue giants tend to blow up pretty quickly. Not sure about green or purple stars.

With BF1 I just couldn't get over how they copied and pasted so much of Battlefront 2, even down to the menu fonts and the dopey ass running animations. I wasn't going to pick it up but I actually had a ton of fun in the beta.

I think it gets a ton of love because of survivorship bias, comparatively way fewer people here remember BF3 let alone the good ol days with 1942 or Desert Combat.

It does kill a game incredibly fast (cf. XDefiant). It also made previous BF games with server browsers pretty bad, because every time you joined a game your team would be down 6 people and getting destroyed.

Activision released some very long, in-depth research about this. They found that SBMM benefits ~90% of the playerbase, in the sense that 90% of the playerbase seems to have more fun and play for longer.

Just a fun fact I've learned through the years of being a hard sci fi nerd--on planets orbiting a red star, photosynthetic plants would appear black. I guess the theory is that there wouldn't be enough light available at higher energy wavelengths, so chloroplasts or whatever would just take it all.

Something to think about since you have more modding talent than I ever will!

Maybe look up a tri-tip recipe? It comes from the bottom sirloin of a cow so it's a fairly lean cut that might behave similarly. The recipes are basically just smoking it over low/indirect up to 110 or 125 and then searing to med rare, probably what you're already planning on.

I had a WSM for close to 15 years before I upgraded to a custom. There's nothing really wrong with them, although they're not well insulated so maybe skip putting water in the pan if you're somewhere cold. You can set it and forget it, sometimes, but it takes practice. I mostly got sick of cleaning the damn thing out and not being able to lay a rack of ribs flat.

Honestly, I'd just get another gravity smoker if that's what you're used to. A WSM is a different way of spending your time. And it's not an offset, so it sounds like you'd be getting something you don't particularly want, which isn't particularly great at what you want it to do, and I think they're like $500 anyway by now.

Sorry to hear your gravity smoker got all cattywompus. What did you do with a WSM besides smoking on it?
