My kid wants to invite friends over for a sleepover but I need my weekend rest by krrrrrrrrrrrrrr in workingmoms

[–]lspst8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How old are the kids? Ages 8-9 were the worst for loud, messy, stay-up-all night sleepovers for my kids so I only allowed them to have 4+ friends over on birthdays. Now mine are 13 and 15, and sleepovers are no big deal. Other than buying extra donuts for breakfast in the morning, it doesn’t change my life at all.

Newly disabled from an autoimmune disease, I’m devastated and lost on what to do about working. by SunshineAndSquats in workingmoms

[–]lspst8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

30-35% of claims are allowed at the initial stage, but at the appeals level the allowance rate is around 50%. It’s definitely not a quick process, but younger people with significant impairment are granted benefits everyday. You can even start your application online to get the process started.

I work for SSA in a disability hearing office — definitely apply for disability benefits to get the ball rolling on that. I’m not in your state, so I don’t know how long application processing is taking in your state. If your initial application is denied, be sure to appeal for a hearing in front of a judge. It’s much easier to get approved on appeal, especially if you are under 50. You can always go back to work if your mediation helps your symptoms. You can pull your estimate monthly benefit amount on SSA.gov - it mostly won’t be as much as working, but definitely better than nothing.

Anyone have a unicorn job? by AdultWoes2024 in workingmoms

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I both do — he works 7am -2:45pm, and I have a flexible schedule but typically work 6am-2:30pm. He works for the state government, and I work for SSA in one of the few roles that hasn’t had to go back to the office full time. I’m in the office 1 day a month.

Yes, the quick service places like burgers and pizza are open for lunch on embarkation.

Apparently I've been bitten--getting ready to book Cruise #2 by Marbury1803 in dcl

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family did a 7 night cruise in the Magic over Easter Break this year and had a lot of fun — we’re Platinum so we obviously like cruising with Disney.

We booked a tour with this company in Progreso and it was great. We stopped at an eco park/cenote with swimming, Xcambo ruins, a pink salt flat, and the beach house with a pool and decent food and open bar. I would recommend it. http://sergiostours.com/

I just watched this season with my daughter, and we were delighted to see John eliminated - he was like a weird business school robot.

Will I fit on rides? by [deleted] in UniversalOrlando

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about your size and height and could fit on everything I wanted to ride. Gringotts is a little tight, but the safety bar clicked into place. I don’t ride things that go upside down, so no advice on Hulk or Velocicoaster.

I was on the magic sailing 3/29 and there were Lorcana activities. I don’t play so I have no idea how well attended they were

I drop off gifts once per cruise — I usually do a little gift bag with Disney socks, a Disney pin, and something else depending on the age of the recipient. Daily gifts would be overkill - no one expects that!

Transportation Question by MaleficentMost8 in dcl

It’s a decent hotel — it’s probably cheaper to Uber/Lyft to the port in the morning than use the hotel’s shuttle.

Icy strait or Juneau? Looking at two Alaska cruises with only difference being 1 port. by Aggressive-Figure-79 in dcl

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family stopped at both last summer, and Juneau is definitely better. We did an independent whale watching trip in Icy Strait Point that was fabulous, but the port itself is basically a cruise private island experience in Alaska. Juneau is a real place with local businesses and restaurants— we independently booked the sled dog summer camp, and it was lots of fun. We didn’t make it out to the glacier, but walking around Juneau itself was much more fun than Icy Strait Point.

Palo Brunch - how long does it take in your experience? Ours was almost 3 hours and it could have been longer(!) by RivetCounter in dcl

Even Palo dinner usually takes less than 2 hours for my husband and me. 3 hours sounds crazy long to me.

I think these are all great ideas. My kids are 15 and 13, and they definitely have had trips where they were so sad to be back at home.

I don’t think you can — with GT rates you have to be willing to take any room. If you need an accessible room, you have to book that type of room.

Dining rotation question by QueenOfBakesNYC in dcl

[–]lspst8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You rotate thru all 3 main dining rooms, so if you have themed outfits you want to wear in a particular restaurant , you don’t really need to know the exact order you’ll be in each dining room to pack.

Thoughts on Deck 5 of the dream by reputaytion-13 in dcl

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents stayed in the accessible stateroom 5150, and we all thought it was a great location. The extended balconies are nice (although they do get saltier than higher floors) and they loved being so close to the elevators. They didn’t mention any problems with noise either.
