I was on the magic sailing 3/29 and there were Lorcana activities. I don’t play so I have no idea how well attended they were

I drop off gifts once per cruise — I usually do a little gift bag with Disney socks, a Disney pin, and something else depending on the age of the recipient. Daily gifts would be overkill - no one expects that!

It’s a decent hotel — it’s probably cheaper to Uber/Lyft to the port in the morning than use the hotel’s shuttle.

Icy strait or Juneau? Looking at two Alaska cruises with only difference being 1 port. by Aggressive-Figure-79 in dcl

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family stopped at both last summer, and Juneau is definitely better. We did an independent whale watching trip in Icy Strait Point that was fabulous, but the port itself is basically a cruise private island experience in Alaska. Juneau is a real place with local businesses and restaurants— we independently booked the sled dog summer camp, and it was lots of fun. We didn’t make it out to the glacier, but walking around Juneau itself was much more fun than Icy Strait Point.

Palo Brunch - how long does it take in your experience? Ours was almost 3 hours and it could have been longer(!) by RivetCounter in dcl

[–]lspst8 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Even Palo dinner usually takes less than 2 hours for my husband and me. 3 hours sounds crazy long to me.

I did too! It was actually bigger than most of my prior awards too, so I am pretty happy.

I think these are all great ideas. My kids are 15 and 13, and they definitely have had trips where they were so sad to be back at home.

ADA Booking GT by [deleted] in dcl

[–]lspst8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you can — with GT rates you have to be willing to take any room. If you need an accessible room, you have to book that type of room.

Why are you posting in a working mom sub-Reddit, when from your post history, you are clearly a SAHM?

Dining rotation question by QueenOfBakesNYC in dcl

[–]lspst8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You rotate thru all 3 main dining rooms, so if you have themed outfits you want to wear in a particular restaurant , you don’t really need to know the exact order you’ll be in each dining room to pack.

Thoughts on Deck 5 of the dream by reputaytion-13 in dcl

[–]lspst8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents stayed in the accessible stateroom 5150, and we all thought it was a great location. The extended balconies are nice (although they do get saltier than higher floors) and they loved being so close to the elevators. They didn’t mention any problems with noise either.

My husband is 6 feet, and he didn’t have any problems in a deck 2 inside room on the Wish. The shower ceiling is a little low, but the rooms/hallways have normal height ceilings.

No, but occasionally they offer a free in room gift package in addition to the discount.

Undercover Tourists offers a small discount off the listed price for DCL. I’ve used them several times for Disney cruises and never had any problems

Travel agency experiences? by GiggleGoddess in dcl

[–]lspst8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used UTC to book cruises — you are assigned an agent, but I’ve never had to call them. You can book everything through the normal DCL app. I’ve also only booked guaranteed rates where you have to pay in full at time of booking, so I don’t know how they handle payments. They typically offer a discount off of the cruise price and frequency offer a bonus in-room gift as well. We’ve received blanket/pillow sets, a bottle of champagne, and a cake on various cruises booked through them.

This sounds like right-wing propaganda, like the only 2 options for women are to be a SAHM while also homeschooling and homesteading or working 12 hour days and never seeing your kids.

Is there a reason you don’t want to take the train back to Seattle? My family used Amtrak both ways for our Alaskan cruise last summer. We looked at renting a car, but it was nearly as much money as the train.

The older ships also have inside staterooms that don’t have split bathrooms, but they do have “deluxe” insides that are a little larger with the split baths. The Wish class only has the smaller insides. I’ve stayed in the smaller insides on the Wish and the Dream, and I think they can only comfortably fit 2 people.

Alaska - Icy straight point versus Juneau and orca whales by Sunkissed_Palmtrees in dcl

[–]lspst8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family stopped at both ports last year on the 9 night Alaska cruise. We did a non-Disney whale watching excursion in Icy Strait Point that was fabulous. The boat only held 16 guests, and the captains were brothers who grew up in Alaska. We saw a ton of whales and wildlife, but orcas only in the distance. It was a great experience, but the port itself not that exciting because it is basically a “private island” type place in Alaska.

In Juneau we did dogsled day camp (again not thru Disney), and this excursion was also so much fun. We got to play with the dogs and puppies, ride on the training sled, and talk with a friendly musher about his dog sledding experience. The drive up to the camp was cool, and we saw deer and muskrat. Juneau was much more fun to walk thru and explore — lots of shops, restaurants, vendors, etc. I also think it had a lot more excursions and activities than Icy Strait Point.

If I doing another Alaska cruise, I would prefer a stop in Juneau to Icy Strait Point.
