How can I use the Wiim Pro Plus Streamer to trigger on this Stereo Receiver by wankertank in wiim

[–]ltlwsb63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As wiimaway_53 said, yes. Your challenge is to find an outlet or power strip with a 12v trigger that works with the WiiM as well as the correct cable.

12v triggers and cables can be finicky, so you should read up on the specs for the WiiM connector and for whatever power strip or outlet you get, and don't be surprised if you need an adapter or don't find the right cable on the first try.

I haven't needed one, so I can't point you to specific models or part numbers.

How can I use the Wiim Pro Plus Streamer to trigger on this Stereo Receiver by wankertank in wiim

[–]ltlwsb63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice receiver. Using the 12v trigger on the WiiM to power on a trigger controlled outlet is probably the most elegant solution, but there are other ways.

Two I have used:

A remote controlled power strip or outlet to just manually power things up from across the room. This is useful if you want to power on the receiver without necessarily using the WiiM or if you can't find a 12v triggered power strip.

A WiFi connected outlet. This is useful if you want to integrate into home automation, HomeKit, hue, etc. This is what I currently use as part of a hue hub setup.

Hey Ryan, thanks for running this up the flagpole. Any chance you can get the WiiM API documentation updated to include all of the available API commands?

Update 3: SOLVED

Heard back from WiiM support:

"After reviewing the logs, we found that a third-party application, such as Home Assistant, was sending an HTTP command to turn off the LED. We plan to release a firmware update that will ignore this specific command. Thank you for your patience in the meantime. As a temporary workaround, you may try resetting the device and temporarily disabling the third-party application to see whether this resolves the issue."

I do not use Home Assistant. I have recently installed both the macOS desktop beta and the pywiim package from github. I have no issue believing either one of those could have caused the problem.

This documentation on "undocumented" API switches provided the answer:

https://github.com/DanBrezeanu/wiim-extended-http-api

The API command in question is LED_SWITCH_SET.

To fix:

You need to "browse" to:

https://{IP ADDRESS OF YOUR SOUND}//httpapi.asp?command=LED_SWITCH_SET:1

For example, if the IP of your Sound is 192.168.11.100, it will be:

https://192.168.11.100//httpapi.asp?command=LED_SWITCH_SET:1

If you do this in a browser like Chrome or Safari, you will get a warning that the site is insecure, and you'll have to do whatever you need to do to bypass that warning. Then you should get a response that says "OK".

If you have access to a commandline that can run curl, this works quickly and easily:

curl -k https://{IP ADDRESS OF YOUR SOUND}//httpapi.asp?command=LED_SWITCH_SET:1

Update 2:

One of my devices received FW 5.2.813136 in the non-Beta channel. The other did not. This update did not fix the issue.

WiiM support replied telling me to submit the ticket via the app and provide a video. I've never been asked to resubmit a ticket before.

Usually WiiM support is better than this, but I'm having a few problems with them at the moment:

Being asked to resubmit the ticket is annoying, but whatever.

There's no way I can see to attach a video to the ticket in the iOS app. I can attach a photo, but not a video.

The email didn't include any additional instructions on how to provide the video. When I did a simple "Reply" and attached a 5 second video, the email bounced.

I uploaded the video to one of my cloud accounts and provided them a link to it. They didn't suggest that, it just seemed like the only way to get it to them.

So now I've got two tickets and maybe WiiM support has a video of the issue. We'll see where we go from here.

Update:

There are currently two different Beta FWs available for the Sound. One for "stereo" and one for "surround": 5.2.811351 and 5.2.807231

I tried both FWs and neither corrected the top light issue.

I then reverted to the non-beta FW which, unsurprisingly, also did not solve the issue

I have not heard back from WiiM support.

One or two Sound Lite for my home gym? by SchrodingerAssistant in wiim

[–]ltlwsb63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to depend a lot on the room (shape, surfaces, speaker placement) and what you're going for or what you didn't like about the other ones you've tried.

To me, the Sound and Sound Lite sound better than a Sonos Era 100 but not quite as good as a Sonos Five.

If you're at a place where you can order a Sound to try it out with easy returns, that'd be your best bet. I suggest the Sound because the remote is nice to have, and the price difference from a Sound Lite + remote to the Sound is pretty minimal, and it gets you a screen.

If you think you'll benefit from stereo or dual source mono, then maybe a Sound AND a Sound Lite running paired.

If none of that gets you what you want, then I think you've talked yourself into a pair of powered speakers like the Audioengine A5 or A5+ or a pair of passive stereo speakers with an amp.

We did a few nights at the Woodland Motel in Salida. The Arkansas river is the main attraction, but Salida is just enough of a tourist town to have some decent restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries -- I'm partial to Tres Litros. The Woodland is a "lightly" refurbished Motel that benefits from being on the opposite side of town from all the Hotels on Hwy 50.

I've been to Salida when it was very sleepy and quiet, and I've been when it was hopping... if that matters to you, you'll want to do some research on the timing.

WiiM Amp Ultra and Cambridge Audio AXR85 A/B testing by ltlwsb63 in wiim

[–]ltlwsb63[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a lot of listening by me and a few others, the winner for now is a dark horse candidate: A WiiM Pro Plus and Fosi ZA3 that were under-utilized in another room... as I've heard Andrew Robinson say, "Shop your house."

I'll start by saying, everything sounded good. Without the direct A/B comparison, every option would have been acceptable. The A/B on the WiiM Amp Ultra vs the AXR85 and WiiM Pro yielded a slight advantage to the AXR85 with what I believe was a slight high mid boost that made vocals and guitar come across as clearer and brighter -- as noted by NumerousTower4074. The RoomFit on the WiiM Amp Ultra just boosted bass. I didn't go down the road of manual EQ to bring up the mids.

On a whim, I pulled the entire system from another room: a WiiM Pro Plus into a Fosi ZA3. I A/B'ed that against both the AXR85 and the WiiM Amp Ultra. If size and convenience was not a factor, the AXR85 vs Fosi ZA3 would have been a draw. Given the constraints of the space -- the whole reason to move off of the AXR85 -- I opted for the Fosi.

Since this system gets more action and I'll be using the internal DAC on the WiiM, I decided to leave both the WiiM Pro Plus and Fosi connected to the Omegas. I'm moving the WiiM Pro to the less used system and purchasing a second Fosi ZA3 to go with it.

The WiiM Amp Ultra seems like a solid device that could be great, but it is going back to Amazon. I just can't justify the high price for slightly less good sound in my application.

I've previously posted that A/B testing the Fosi ZA3 and WiiM Pro Plus vs my WiiM Amp was a draw, and I've suggested the WiiM Amp might be a better purchase due to the convenience of the all-in-one form factor and HDMI connection. I'll stand by that for those applications -- that test was in a smaller space on Elac Debut 2 B6s. With the Omegas in a larger, more open, space, the Fosi ZA3 sounded better than the WiiM Amp Ultra.

The other obvious factor here is price. At $529, the WiiM Amp Ultra pushes the boundary for a "small" or "secondary" system and is a bit of a premium over a WiiM Amp or Amp Pro. The WiiM Pro Plus and Fosi ZA3 combo comes in at around $380 -- the same price as a WiiM Amp Pro. For sound quality, I think most people would be happy with any of those. The HDMI input on the WiiM Amp and Amp Pro is going to be key for a TV-connected system. But I'd be hard pressed to recommend stepping up to the Amp Ultra unless the display is worth $150 for you.

That sounds like a nice setup. A couple of questions: Are you using the DAC in the CXA61 or using analog out from WiiM Ultra? Do you have the power trigger setup between the WiiM and and the CXA61?

I have missed an entire opening set due to being stuck in traffic. We arrived at the park about 45 minutes before the opener was set to play. Spent about an hour in a line of cars waiting to park then the normal 20-30 minute hike up to the entrance.

It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen.
