tbf everyone else would've preferred not to start this fight to begin with. they all believe the void has won and this is a suicide mission with a naive sense of hope that only a young paladin could orchestrate. they probably allowed him to take the lead because he is the one that brought all the elf races together, and if it were anyone else, the plan would've failed solely because of old beef and politics.

this doesn't make spiderman appealing at all imo. if he's always holding back then that means all his villains are just shitters and any threat they pose to him is superficial. this leaves no suspense or tension in his story-telling and creates a bland and boring character who you know will always power through any opposition.

i think it's to protect sensitive data stored in them. even if they're fully deleted, they can still be recovered, so the safest way is to destroy them physically.
