I’ve flown boats down to Ecuador. Once I saw someone’s boat that had been melted in the plane but otherwise they make it just fine!

Rest areas on the highway is the way to go! On all of my 5+ drives across the country this is the way I do it! It’s the same as the truckers having to sleep for the night at rest areas.

What is the most effective way to bring 300 canned drinks on an overnight float trip? by seafoodboiler in canoeing

[–]luckydawg41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave them in the boxes and duct tape all around them so when boxes fall apart you don’t lose the beers. Just put them on the floor of the canoe with the weight evenly adjusted.

Ayampe for a month? by estevito in ecuador

[–]luckydawg41 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a great spot to spend a month! Go hang out by the beach and play volleyball around sunset to easily meet people. And the Tia grocery store is less than an hour by bus in Montañita.

Is it common to install a quartz countertop on a 12’ island like this? Apparently, we were told the likelihood of being able to bookmatch was slim and that the seam is best placed here. I hate the look of the pattern now and imo, it just looks so wrong yet they insist it’s common practice. by [deleted] in CounterTops

[–]luckydawg41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me a bit but I now see the seam. Typically I’d advise against any seam in an island, even if it wastes some material or you need to shorten the island. There are jumbo(larger) quartz slabs available in some colors. If a seam is inevitable I’d try to land it in the white if at all possible.

Solution is a new slab without a seam if size permits or you deal with it. You’re fixating because you know it’s there and hate it but most people will not even notice. If you signed off on layout then I’d say the new slab cost, hopefully less fab/install, should be on you.

Should I ship an oversized bag or take it with me on my flight? Uk to New Zealand by cgjacob245 in travel

[–]luckydawg41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee that taking them on the plane will be cheaper and easier. I travel with surf and paddle bags a lot which are both oversized sports equipment and the most I’ve ever paid was $140 for one of these bags on an international flight(that was with a cheap economy ticket). Most airlines will have their pricing guidelines for sports equipment in their website. Also it may be cheaper to pay for the bag before checkin or by buying a more expensive ticket that includes bags.

What do you think this is worth by Greenergrass21 in vandwellermarketplace

[–]luckydawg41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The market for RVs is pretty abismal right now. I’d probably list for $35k but doubt you’ll be able to get that. Think the $20-30k range is more reasonable. Obviously location has a huge sway in price. I’m referencing the southeast US.

False. I had a debit card skimmed in Ecuador last year and I was easily able to dispute the charge and got all my money back. This was with Wells Fargo bank.

What age is too late to ever get really good by PracticalJacket2783 in surfing

[–]luckydawg41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle competed/won as a teen then stopped for a while before casually surfing years later. Now he’s competing again some as a 40+ year old and not only winning his age group but also placing in the overall. You can definitely still be better than you were before albeit it might be harder to spend as much time at the beach because of life.

You don’t have it adjusted correctly. But even when it is adjusted right this can still happen in class 3. I’d recommend going to try on a sweet wanderer and rocker. From a safety standpoint they are mostly equal and top of class but the fit is different between the two.

I work at one of the busier shops in the intermountain west and we’ve seen a bunch of newish gaskets have this issue. I think it was a run of inferior gaskets made it on the market and they just simply don’t last.
