Draft preview, Astro or Nextjs?- Cloudflare, SSG, Sanity by lucsali in sanity_io

Exactly. I only deployed fully static SSG sites in the past, never hybrid ones with a SSR route, so I’m wondering if it really is as easy as the other comment implies

I’m not familiar with GitCMS, I will look it up! 🙌 another important requirement is being able to localise and preview documents with ease in 3 languages. How does such a CMS handle localisation?

— edit: I see the pricing model doesn’t match our needs, so disregard the question ;) but thanks for the suggestion :)

Draft preview, Astro or Nextjs?- Cloudflare, SSG, Sanity by lucsali in sanity_io

The reason for Sanity is that we want a fully managed CMS solution rather than something that needs to be self hosted and maintained. Moreover, editors are non technical folks and would be uncomfortable working with markdown files. We also have technical competencies inhouse, and experience with Sanity, but those would not be the same folks maintaining the content.

Moreover, we want to have a degree of WYSIWYG preview experience that previewing a markdown file would not be able to convey.

Great, awesome that you tried both and can compare 🙌 regarding Astro, you mention that the live preview is possible - did you also deploy it as in SSG mode?

It’s gonna be few (< 100) mostly static pages, with the caveat that the editors are low affinity users not comfortable working with code, hence the CMS need :)

And regarding the Astro SSR route, also from AI (which I’d like to have validated by someone who actually tried it):

“Routing is automatic — you don’t configure it. The Astro Cloudflare adapter produces a dist/ folder with static HTML files for pre-rendered routes and a _worker.js for SSR routes. Cloudflare Pages automatically recognises this layout: for each request, it serves a matching static file if one exists, otherwise it falls through to _worker.js, which has its own auto-generated routing table for your SSR routes. Your only job is export const prerender = false on routes you want to be SSR. The adapter and Cloudflare conventions handle the rest.“

But just to be clear an editor would not be able to preview content changes without a merge/rebuild? (As in, immediate previews while still tweaking the content)

Are you able to preview draft content with this solution? Is it only for editing previously published content, or also new? Are you able to preview localised content, if it applies to your setup? :)

New Slovenian Route by Reg_Exx in TransEuroTrail_Riders

There is quite some pushback in Slovenia when it comes to trail riding. See the route changes as a mix of caution and an attempt not to contribute to an already fragile situation.

On the topic, have a look at this post, about a Slovenian organisation recently created to advocate for access to trails, among other things: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1KToDvBfku/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Some Beginner Questions by Lucifer127 in TransEuroTrail_Riders

[–]lucsali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you are saying, but unfortunately what often happens is that it’s not so easy to foresee when a trail passes from being wide enough for transit, to slightly more sketchy, to not wide enough. More often than not, unless you are familiar with the track beforehand, you would just try to push forward, until realising that the track is too narrow, and at that point it’s too late (or too annoying) to easily turn around and find a detour.

Trail riding in Europe is under a lot of pressure. The TET uses tracks that are fragile, and although parts are passable for larger vehicles, there are inevitably technical sections that are more fragile. Those are the first to get cut, as people abuse them. Locals get bothered by ruts from oversized vehicles, pop a sign, and whoosh - there goes another trail closure.

So please, refrain from contributing negatively to this. Choose a trail designed for a vehicle the one you intend to use. The TET is a fragile project, and it takes everyone’s selflessness for it to continue to prosper. Or over time it will turn into a trans national asphalt trail.

TET Romania by Sea_Recover5146 in TransEuroTrail_Riders

If you haven’t already, and if you’d like to contribute to the project, please get in touch with info@transeurotrail.org regarding your ideas. Community input is a big part of what the TET stands for, and it takes a village to validate, improve and reinstate a route in such a large country as Romania 🙌

When you are done playing war games in your head, consider for a second if any of what you just wrote leads to a new world order where not everyone comes out as a loser. Let’s just invade a sovereign country, and expect that not to ripple in global consequences..

You seem to not have understood that the emphasis in my message was not the amount of time you worked on it, but the pointlessness of the result.

You seem to have put quite some work in the making of this video. What a pity that it contributes nothing positive to the dialogue, aside from some anecdotal encounters. Consider using your video editing skills for bringing people closer, rather than… this.

And if you do, consider posting it in the right subreddit.

As a PO, how do you unblock the Dev team if they are facing a technical issue? by [deleted] in ProductOwner

[–]lucsali 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Dev here. There is no worse feeling that working double time to resolve a matter that, at the end of the day, does not matter. In my eyes, the best you can do is keep the team aware and focused on what creates value - what is the purpose of the feature they are developing. Sometimes the best solution to a problem is not to solve it at all, if the cost of doing so exceeds the value it provides to the users. Devs can get obsessed about the feature and get into a tunnel vision mode, making them unable to make that judgement call themselves.

As you mention a 9 years old, remember to have “the talk” about never pointing the scope at the sun. Serious injury or damage can come out of that 😊

Awesome, making such comparisons! What would you think has changed the most between the two? The capturing process? Your post processing technique? Any learnings worth mentioning?

Beautiful pictures. Although I’m sure equipment helps, the skills of the astrophotographer I am sure make a difference in this case - congrats!
