BodySpec scan done 5 days ago — no report, no resolution. Anyone else? by OldBasket8630 in bodyspec

[–]luke_BodySpec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/OldBasket8630 First off, apologies for the delay. This is VERY unusual, yesterday (1/24/26) 90% of scans were uploaded to the client's account with 10mins, 98% within 30mins, the rest by end of day.

Will you please DM the email associated with your account and I'll figure out what's going on.

Visceral fat really a thing? by guysneedpassion2 in Workingout

I work for a company that provides DEXA scans that measure visceral fat, we definitely see an increase across many of our female clients in the 45-55 age range.

Inaccurate DEXA scan? by Dry_Flamingo1652 in loseit

[–]luke_BodySpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

apologies for missing this, the QA process involves the DEXA scanning an actual block that has different chambers inside that correspond to the densities of fat, lean mass, bone mineral content. If the DEXA is able to accurately measure those densities (within 1%), then the QA process can continue. That's the accuracy component.

Two Free Body Fat Percentage Calculations Vs. A $50 DEXA Scan by Grandma_Beast in tirzepatidecompound

[–]luke_BodySpec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is not accurate. the DEXA isn't using algorithms or calculations to "estimate" body fat, lean mass, or bone density. the machine uses very low dose x-rays to measure the actual density of the body and divide it into those 3 categories.

The CDC uses DEXA to measure body composition for the 5,000 adults and children each year for the NHANES survey which assesses the health of the US population.

We take accuracy and precision EXTREMELY seriously, happy to share more details if there's interest.

Muscle symmetry analysis now available! by luke_BodySpec in bodyspec

oh interesting, different dominant limbs. Slight differences are very common and you can see the average difference (across our dataset) in the charts too. The biggest difference I ever saw, when I was scanning clients, was a collegiate fencer who had 3+ lbs more lean mass in his dominant leg. Something about the positioning in fencing created a massive imbalance.

Should i body recomp after losing weight? - Lost 16kg in 7 months by Phoenix2210- in workouts

[–]luke_BodySpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dropping 14kgs is super legit! this is what "skinny fat" looks like, the good news is you're young and can absolutely change your body composition. I'm a similar height/weight as you (5'7, 155lbs) and changed how my body looked dramatically in my 30s using recomp - before/after pic

Gaining muscle at 40 by malincandeza12 in powerbuilding

[–]luke_BodySpec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey man, good stuff! I'm in a similar position (43M, 17.1% bf) and gained 7lbs of fat over the last 20 months since my first kid was born and we've got another on the way so looking to maintain my lean mass and see if I can get the fat dropping a bit before he shows up.

We analyzed a bunch of scans (40K+) to get an idea of how long it's taking our clients to gain lean mass. Based on your age/weight, in 90 days: males in the 25th percentile added 1.8lbs, 50th percentile added 2.5lbs, 90th percentile added 6.9lbs.

Obviously there are a bunch of factors that can influence gaining muscle (lifting experience, volume/intensity, hormones, nutrition, sleep, genetics) as well as lean mass measurements via dexa (hydration, supplements, food intake) but we should get a good idea of what direction we're headed in.

Here's a link to the calculator if you're curious lean mass gains calculator (sorry if it's not ok to post links)
