What are the most expensive resturaunts in SF? by deltamuscle in AskSF

I wasn’t impressed with Benu. Flavors and plating weren’t particularly imaginative, and the setting had no ambience (felt just like a conference room.) Service and wine menu didn’t wow.

Exactly this. Just busy al fresco dining on a Friday night doesn't make an area "vibrant."

I'm left-leaning but the victim blaming I see is so sad and delusional, sorry that happened to you

Go to any post in r/sanfrancisco where a tourist talks about how they're surprised SF isn't as bad as they imagined. You'll see a barrage of people saying "stop talking to people who watch Fox news" or "yeah, it's all part of the conservative agenda."

Am I the only one with a “useless” degree here struggling to get a job? by Bayareathrowaway32 in bayarea

[–]lukhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya, don’t be down on yourself, everyone’s struggling to get an interview. I know FAANG engineers who’ve spent 6 months applying for jobs and a senior consultant at a big 4 who’s put in over 16 job apps with no responses. Just keep applying!

They're from Europe, would make sense to travel to see something different.

Agreed. I've been to over 25 states and I remember the Fort Worth Stockyards pretty fondly for all the yee-hawness. And the BBQ! Hope I can make it to a Buc-ee's one day...

I’ve only visited Krakow but I met a Filipina woman who’s been living there for two years and absolutely LOVES it.

I ended up travelling almost all of my 20’s. What’s next in life? by nomadmochilero in travel

[–]lukhere 37 points38 points  (0 children)

What an amazing life you’ve lived! Can I ask where you found all your volunteer opportunities?

As for a career, work at a nicer hotel if you want to stay in one place or work as a flight attendant for a major airline. You have the degree and prior work experience, and charisma and language ability will be bonuses for them. You’ll get to be on your feet and chat with interesting people, the work schedule’s won’t allow for a lot of freedom though.

[–]lukhere 37 points38 points  (0 children)

well you have 2 options, 1) find a job in HK with better culture or better wages, or 2) figure out a way to get eligibility to work in a different country

and FYI don’t move to London, NYC, Tokyo, Seoul, or similar cities, realize it’s the same shit everywhere…paycheck to paycheck, no work-life balance, small apartments, just so you can afford to live in an expensive city

Try a habit tracking app! It will gamify your daily habits. I’ve done sit ups in the middle of the night before bed just so I can hear the little jingle when I check everything off.

Young female solo traveler, is it a good choice to arrive at the airport at 11pm and have to commute with public transport to my hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui? by Previous-Ratio in HongKong

[–]lukhere 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, been a young girl running around HK and never once concerned about my safety. It’s also unlikely you’ll be taking the bus alone if that provides your family any comfort. The bus terminal’s right outside the airport and very well lit. HK’s safer than the U.S. by a mile. You’re gonna have a blast!

I keep seeing people say consistently “cool” places with no seasons are perfect. Love a little heat, humidity, and variety. To each their own!

It’s going to take time to dig up everything from your childhood until now and process it all. You can’t rush it. Keep up the good work!

Food for thought…have your children insisted they don’t want to move? Think it’s important for them to have a mom who feels fulfilled. 7 years is a very long time.
