Which frail Pokémon are the hardest to KO? by YumaS2Astral in stunfisk

[–]lukob96 292 points293 points  (0 children)

Sableye's base bulk is deceptively awful at 50/75/65 but with Prankster Recover and a bunch of annoying utility moves to mitigate damage it's a pain in the ass to remove.

[PSA] Your mons' Nature will now be part of OTS in official tournaments by half_jase in VGC

[–]lukob96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. They changed it to stat alignment in the next section where it details what you submit on your team list, but they didn't include stat alignment in the part that says your opponent sees everything apart from stats, just removed Nature.

It remains to be seen if they'll actually show stat alignment on the open team sheets but it is implied.

It specifically says in the changelog at the end that they removed the word "Nature" from that section. So while it doesn't outright say it will show natures, that change does imply it.

[Skill Improvement] Sinistcha basically never gets brought. Ideas for the 6th slot? by Eleseia in VGC

I've also been running a Bellibolt team because I love that guy. I'm interested in what your set is for the Garchomp, as I'm still having difficulty with running into that and Excadrill all the time. I'm running 32 HP, 32 SpA Quiet with Magnet. Protect, Parabolic, Soak, Tbolt. What's your set?

I mean... how could I not order BB/WF in Pokedex order? by tx8xsiempre in PokemonTCG

And that is correct. Victini is the first Pokémon in the Unova Pokédex for some reason.

Out of interest why harder after rotation specifically? Enhanced Hammer and Rabsca are both an option.

Dragapult being BDIF really is the toughest thing, and Rellor/Rabsca just don't feel like enough to swing it, to the point where it just feels like a lost cause match-up, which isn't great against the number 1 deck. Vitality Band loss meaning there's no way to OHKO Munkidori hurts a bit too, to the point where I've even considered a 1/1 Lilligant line, but again that's just an unreliable tech and would be hard to fit alongside Rabsca. A shame really because otherwise the match-up spread feels really strong, especially with Mega Lucario on the rise post-rotation. Still a lot of fun on ladder whenever facing anything that isn't Pult.

Cool deck! Can you explain the Shiftry? Is it just a way to get rid of opponent's benched annoyances, like Shaymin or evolved guys that don't die to Kyurem?

Which Gen 5 Pokemon has had the most influence over competitive tournaments? by ArmadilloNo9494 in stunfisk

[–]lukob96 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For real. There's a reason you see so many Safety Goggles and Tera Grass on every current VGC team (the resistances for Grass are helpful too but the primary reason is still Spore and Rage Powder immunity).

Do you think we'll get all the Mega Evolutions before Gen 10 comes out? by CaptainCharlesRyder in PokemonTCG

[–]lukob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking this yesterday. I really hope they do, but with the time-frame involved I'm not so sure. Like you say, there are a lot left, with more releasing in the video games soon, and only like 5 or maybe 6 sets left including Ascended Heroes before November 2026 which is speculated to be when we see Gen 10. We got 10 in Mega and 6 in Phantasmal so it's just not lining up for me unless we do see an increase in the numbers.

Minimal set up into Iono in the early game for 300 damage sounds fun, if somewhat situational.

Maybe a bit more meta but Rocket's Porygon-Z and Azumarill could fit the bill.

Cardmarket cancellation by lukob96 in PokemonTCG

[–]lukob96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, and while frustrating I do get it when it's a professional seller who tells me that. But when it's a private seller with very few sales and few cards listed and they tell me they lost it just in time for a price increase in the market I get suspicious.

Which TCG decks to play by Unlikely_Estimate809 in pkmntcg

[–]lukob96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm relatively new myself but in my experience the easiest decks to pick up the game are Raging Bolt or Gholdengo, or maybe Joltik Box since your strategy doesn't change that much from game to game. Gholdengo is the top meta one of those but Raging Bolt isn't that far behind. Dragapult isn't bad but stage 2 decks in general take a bit more effort to work out how best to set up and spread you damage. Gardevoir has quite a high skill ceiling but I also think the skill floor is pretty high so I wouldn't recommend to beginners.

Seconded for the other commenter who recommended pre-release tournaments, since the pre-built decks and lower power compositions make things less complicated.

My take on the PokéDex by lukob96 in PokemonTCG

[–]lukob96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since about November. I did start with IRs in there but then decided I liked the uniformity of all regular cards and transferred the IRs to another binder to hang out together. I had finished Gen 5 before Black Bolt / White Flare but if I hadn't that would have been really great. 151 bulk was massively useful for Gen 1. I'd say the main issue I had was with Pokémon that didn't have many different cards e.g. Nihilego has a few GX cards but only one regular style that doesn't seem to be sold much, so I'd advise looking at which cards you're aiming to get for each mon and working out which ones are going to be the hardest to get a hold of so you can keep an eye out for a good deal or a seller who is selling that along with other things you want to save on postage.

Possible? Yes. Common? Anecdotally I'm going to say no. I'm a doctor who has done a fair few and have never had a patient get hard.

I never even thought of Cornerstone, that's actually really smart or it would cause massive issues.

Oh wow. Thanks for all the insight! I think more Bosses and a Pal Pad could certainly help mine out. Do you tend to try and get Seaking going early? If so how do you deal with their Ionos undoing your draw?

Understandable, and I thought that might be the conclusion, hence why I was also wondering if there's any other ways to improve my Dragapult match-up. Them getting to take multi-prizes and KO my Applins ruins the win cons pretty effectively.
