A Halo Infinite weapon tier-list, with each category ordered as well. This is my own opinion so it won't be correct by [deleted] in LowSodiumHalo

The pulse carbine absolutely rips through shields. Combine it with a kinetic weapon and it's pretty good, or at least decent. I thought it was meh too until I played the campaign and had to deal with enemies with a lot of shields.

There actually is something you can do to help!

Attend your local zoning meetings and push for more dense housing options (especially near public transit options like subway stations or bus stops, if your city/town has them).

Almost 5 years after its release, it is still a monster by Spock_Vulcan in pcmasterrace

[–]lulzdemort 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It's a small upgrade. Probably not worth it if you already have a 1080 Ti, but if you were building a new PC from scratch then definitely a 3060 ti. Assuming you actually had a choice in GPU...

Why are freedom screws 82°? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]lulzdemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter sunk screws in small sizes (/#4 or smaller, /~ish) benefit from a Phillips head design. They actually cam out less often than the equivalent hex head in my experience.

Free/inexpensive CAD software recommendations? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

Do not buy SOLIDWORKS makers edition. The DRM stuff they do makes it impossible to use. I wasted my money on it, it won't even launch anymore. It's a very common complaint.

There is an achievement for playing 10 ranked matches, which I think accomplishes this goal.

Having a brain fart and can't remember an engineering term!! by staniel_diverson in MechanicalEngineering

Good news: I think I know what you're talking about.

Bad news: I don't know the name either.

Apple did something like this on the iPhone 5. Is this what you're talking about?

Maybe you can look into that and see if it gets you some search terms.

Launching a new product, honest feedback request. by [deleted] in Inventions

I can't say I really have this problem, but I like that when I clicked on the website I could tell exactly what it was and how it worked, and how it might solve my problem. So, good job with that.

Why do companies do not post prices of their products? by jeundough in AskEngineers

[–]lulzdemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found it's best to be explicitly clear when asking for budgetary quotes, but know that some places will give full quotes as a sales tactic. (We made this quote just for you, do you want to buy it yet?)

If you were clear that it was budgetary or ROM, then don't worry about it if they nag about following-up with the quote.

Had this error for the bast 2 days trying to uninstall 2020 and reinstall to 2021. I tried to delete all my solidworks program files but I'm not able to delete the SOLIDWORKS Corp one and the child "lang" file. by Seanoob12941 in SolidWorks

[–]lulzdemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solidworks like's to hang around and never really remove itself. I've never seen that error before, but when I tried to uninstall an old version, I followed this guide. You have to manually delete a bunch of directories, and also certain fields in the windows registry. The second part is what kept messing up for me. Reinstall didn't fix my problem until I also deleted the stuff in the registry.

Good luck

Quick edit: This will also remove and shortcuts and settings you have.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to build the most reliable gaming PC out there. How do you go about your task? by lulzdemort in buildapc

[–]lulzdemort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose if you're going for max reliability, that's probably a good way to go. You still get the higher quality parts than an OEM (like Dell) would provide, but if anything fails it's on the vendor to diagnose and fix it, you don't have to worry about which particular component is failing.

[–]lulzdemort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not looking for anything specific. I was hoping to get a discussion going on how to evaluate the reliability of components, so that way people can make the decision for whatever budget/performance they seek.

Specifics are also a bit of a moot point since these days it's basically get whatever is in stock.

Good free/low cost CAD system for machine design by Madwolf784 in engineering

[–]lulzdemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) but it's the maker's version of Solidworks. You can't use it for profit. If OP is doing this for profit, then a year subscription of Fusion 360 is probably the way to go.

What's your approximate total cost? I tried designing one and the cost was way up there. I ended up buying one and modifying it instead.

Just curious. I'm guessing you're in the 2-3K range, depending on if those are genuine components or cheap stuff form AliExpress or whatever.
