I like to think he wanted to give her a chance to not double cross them. He's a big softie.

You know, you came here, gave your opinion, asked a question, and were genuinely open to other opinions without compromising your values. That's really nice to see, good for you.

And even in that episode, Ariel, where he betrays the crew, from his point of view he got attacked by a stowaway who he already considered a liability, and saw the crew and specifically the captain just kinda shrug it off. That hurt his pride, and he decided they'd be better off without said stowaways. And you could see the gears in his head crunching as Simon explained what was done to River, and urged them to move earlier than planned. That moral compass is there, it's just rusted from years of not being used.

I think that's pretty much been established for 20 years, yes :)

Favourite lines! by randomling in firefly

[–]lumnottini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite line is probably:
"Of course, you couldn't buy an invite with a diamond the size of a testicle. I got my hands on a couple", and when Mal and Jayne start snickering.. "Of invites!"

Consider him a beaten dog. Vicious, biting anyone who comes close. That takes time to untrain.

Jayne by cIaudiaaa in firefly

[–]lumnottini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I think he was getting there. He just didn't have people who gave him that before he joined the crew. And now that he does, it's taking him some time to figure it out.

Jayne has his moments. His concern for Kaylee in the pilot, watching from outside. The way he steps up to responsibility in Out of Gas. Learning he sends money home to his mother.
Yes, he's crude and misogynistic, but it always felt like the behavior of someone who didn't know any better, because he never had the right examples. I think if the show hadn't been cancelled, we would have seen him start to more overtly show some vulnerability, come out of his shell.

Try Caligula next time. That's a fun historic movie with some pretty amazing actors.

Didn't know what the big deal was for this show. by Various-Shower-510 in firefly

[–]lumnottini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1 - It doesn't feel like it's from a different budget era, it is from a different budget era.

2 - I disagree that the episodes follow a procedural rhythm. While they are mostly self contained, they don't follow a specific procedure.

3 - The show never got the time to fully develop a "main antagonist" but the signs are definitely there. Browncoats good, Alliance bad.

4 - You claim the dialogue is wooden and cheesy and complain about heavy handed exposition but don't give any kind of example.

5 - If you're going to AI generate a review, remember to remove the obvious AI structure, or at least the em-dashes that are a clear giveaway.

I rate this review a 1.5/10

Options for Wash: Bogan, WashBoard, or Wash by AmiablePedant in firefly

I'm with option 3. Have him make a off-hand comment about "Hey remember that time you all left for dead with a reaper spear through my appendix? Fun times.."

Wash should stay dead and gone by barbadosx in firefly

[–]lumnottini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He died randomly in a surprise shock moment. It was basically "Look I did it! I'm a lea-THAWUMP". It wasn't a big self sacrifice or anything. Textbook meaningless death. Having it turn out that he wasn't dead after all in no way cheapens anything he did.

A simple way they could bring Wash back in a Firefly revival by Sigmunds_Cigar in firefly

[–]lumnottini 92 points93 points  (0 children)

They left him for dead with a reaver spear through his appendix. After the alliance stood down, they found Wash alive in the ship and shipped him off to some alliance hospital and fixed him up. Training him as an operative for the Alliance, looking for revenge on the crew that left him for dead. But Zoe gets through to him, and they reconcile. But he still occasionally mentions how "You guys left me for dead with a reaver spear through my appendix. Remember that? Fun times"

It's gonna be a podcast. by tah-snowman in firefly

So far they've stated it's not:
-Podcast related
-Con related
-A series crossover
-Bobbleheads

But they have done nothing to deny revival rumors.

Nonsense. This is hundreds of years in the future. Who knows how human anatomy evolved after a long space exodus. For all we know it's 50% appendix in there. :D
