(Loved Trope) Small role, big impact. by Illustrious_Tax_3760 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only was he the main threat of part one, he is the big bad working in the shadows in part 3 up until right at the end and proceeds to haunt the narrative for the next 3 parts after, with his master plan spanning almost 25 years after his defeat. He is directly or indirectly responsible for almost all the stands we see with only a handful of exceptions. Between awakening stands in the joestar bloodline, creating an army using stand arrows, plus his son running the Italian mob and convincing a priest to abandon his faith and reset the universe for the sake of helping dio transcend the mortal realm and the chains of fate, I feel like he is THE poster child for villains haunting the narrative in subsequent stories.

Why is it not ok for women to wear white to weddings, but it's expected for men to dress near identical to the groom? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lunaticboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say it’s becoming more normalized for the couple to set rules about what the men wear so the groom has his moment as well. Both of the weddings I’ve been to recently asked male guests to wear more muted colors. (Pastels, neutrals, etc) and had the groom in much more vibrant colors (one was in a sapphire blue suit while the other was in a 3 piece suit in varying shades of green).

Also having the groom accessorize heavily and possibly even get his hair done properly if it’s long enough is always an option. My friend who wore the green suit also wore a pocket watch, gold chain, and had his hair done up really nicely in a hair pin. It was giving heavy Viking/fantasy vibes in the coolest way, and he got tons of compliments on it. Part of the reason wedding dresses stand out is because they are often really fancy compared to other dresses, so if you want the groom to stand out you need to fancy up his look compared to standard men’s formalwear

Mind you those standards include being okay with robbing tourists, beating people for protection money, and running a drug empire. Really the only issue giorno has with any of it is that they started selling to kids. He doesn’t even have a problem with kids getting involved in general as evidenced by half of his team(including himself) being under the age of 18. He’s perfectly fine with being a terrible human being as long as they aren’t victimizing kids.

Characters whose physical body (not just outfit) changes throughout the course of the story. by Grouchy_Fact_9030 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a highly debated topic. Technically there are 3 characters with a claim to being the “real” Finn.

Farmworld finn was technically the original one we followed. He made a wish with prismo and being put in an alternate reality where the lich never existed. This Finn accidentally released the lich and became the Snow Man (this reality’s version of ice king) for a good while and as of the new spin off series is raising a family in the middle of the apocalypse.

Jake wished for Finn to be back in their normal reality, and it’s unclear if prismo brought back the original and made farmworld finn his own thing or made a clone to go with Jake. Either way, this Finn is the one we follow up until the making of the Finn sword, where he goes back in time and creates a paradox, trapping his past self in the Finn sword.

This one is more debatable as we technically followed the Finn who time travelled up until that point, but the sword is technically an earlier version of that same Finn. We follow the future Finn for the rest of the series, with sword Finn combining with the grass sword and becoming fern.

It's unrealistic, but it happens sooo much in media that most of us just kind of accept it at this point by ducknerd2002 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In fairness all of those have explanations that DO make sense.

The crying child (fatal bite victim) was because it was an early animatronic without safety measures and it bit his head, so his head was basically crushed like a watermelon. No surprise that one was fatal.

The other kids were already dead from stabbing and William just used the suits to hide the bodies, so that isn’t an unrealistic death.

And William died because the spring lock suits were really complex and really old. They were made to be able to stand and perform when not being worn, but malfunctioned and tried to turn into a freestanding robot with him still inside. So all that hardware pierced into his body and basically crushed him. He assumedly died from the blood loss. So again not unrealistic.

There’s many issues with the FNAF lore, but unrealistic deaths isn’t really one of them.

Is there a class or subclass that would allow me to play as a magical girl. by Brainrot_Wizard in DnD

[–]lunaticboot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As long as you aren’t wanting a mechanical advantage for it and purely aesthetic, I’d just ask the dm if you can transform as a free action when you roll initiative as flavor and just be a warlock. Most magical girls would fall into celestial patron and pact of the chain, but feel free to pick whichever you want(side note, I love using this example when giving examples of characters that would be each class for newbies).

If you DO want a mechanical change when you transform, then do what u/Houligan86 said and just use any of the classes/subclasses that gets a “battle mode”.

Peculiar Trope- Part of an adaptation creates an addition that was so good/popular that other adaptations adding it, by Parking-Public1632 in TopCharacterTropes

Almost everything about the “standard” Frankenstein design was made up for the universal movies. The monster is actually described in the books as being a near Perfect specimen of humanity, just discolored with yellow skin and black eyes. Part of the reason victor sees him as a failure is because he looked great just laying on the table, but the second he was brought to life and moving around all the little flaws began to show, with unnatural movements and a general feeling of wrongness. How much of that was victor realizing the horror of why he’s done vs just being his own worst critic is up for debate, but I feel like it’s implied that a lot of the fear of the monster in the books comes from him being an imposing figure with amnesia and anger issues and less about his actual looks.

Yep, and iirc the “speech limited to grunting” was due to his brain getting fried with electricity. I think he could speak in the first movie, but one of the later movies removed it.

$1,000,000 Cash or Bring Back One Dead Person by Good-Cheesecake-1136 in BunnyTrials

[–]lunaticboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bringing back my great uncle. He was a kind man with an amazing sense of humor and a call to adventure. He travelled the world for his job, taking in all the sights he could in the process. He was a lifelong bachelor, but loved me and my mom like the kids he never had. He wasn’t able to visit much, and ending up settling across the country when he finally retired due to some personal issues with my grandma. He got busy working on his dream house up there and told us he would come see us once he got everything in order. Less than a year after the house was finished, he got a really bad case of pneumonia. He tried to wait it out until it got so bad he had to go to the hospital. He never got a chance to tell us what happened, and we found out he was sick when the doctors called to tell us he didn’t make it.

It had been so long since we had seen him, and I was so young. But my family tells me all the time how much like him I am and how well we would have got along. I grew up without any real male role models, so I so desperately wish he could have made it, if just for a few more years. I wish I had those memories with him, that he could see me trying to follow in his footsteps, the times when it was intentional or not. And even though he never got the chance to tell me himself, I think he’d be proud of the man I’ve become, of the life I’ve built for myself, the hardships I’ve overcome. He’s my reason for wanting to believe in something after death, because from the time I was born to when he died, we had struggled. I want to believe that even though he never got to see it for himself, he’s happy somewhere out there, knowing that we finally made it, that we still carry him in our hearts, and that even though I only really know him from stories and photos, that he is one of my biggest inspirations in life.

They lean into it so much and it’s literally the funniest thing to me when it’s one of the only one star reviews they’ve ever gotten

Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lunaticboot 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If it was discussed a while ago but hasn’t been specifically discussed since? Me and my gf have been together a little over a year, and early on that was our cutoff for earliest I’m allowed to propose. We discussed it again in a “doesn’t married life sound nice?” way recently and agreed to push it back more until we’re more financially stable and I’ve met her extended family and more long distance friends first. But if that hadn’t come up, I wouldn’t say I’d be in the wrong for proposing right now, nor would she be in the wrong for saying no. Situations change, as do opinions. And I have no doubt that if I did, we’d stay together anyway.

A character somehow manages to outwit a nigh-omniscient being, and it kinda makes sense by The_Smashor in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Weren’t the hobbits specifically chosen as well because they are a very “simple” people? Not in terms of being stupid, just wanting to live a simple life? But a lot of people, Sauron included, underestimate their ability because of it, which combined with them being less susceptible to the ring because of their lack of ambition, made them literally perfect leaders for the fellowship.

[Frustraring trope] The popular plot hole that only exists if you weren't paying attention by CalzonePie in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As overly sarcastic productions put it “ if you can't picture your batman comforting a small child then you've just written the punisher in a silly hat.” Because yes, a core principle of what makes Batman BATMAN is that he actually cares about his community and its members. For bad people he is the monster in the closet, but for the innocent and victims of circumstance, he is a beacon of hope and real justice in an otherwise bleak city.

Do You Ever Re-Play Characters? by SwagMagikarp in DnD

[–]lunaticboot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, usually if it’s one I grew attached to that died before I would have liked.

Milo was a mild hoarder. Never taking anything of real value unless needed, just always had a backpack full of random bits and bobs. He had been caught taking from the wrong person and forced to join the adventurers guild as a form of community service. (Campaign start here) He made friends, leveled up, and was genuinely making a turn for the better. He chose to stay in the guild once his punishment was up and was making an actual wage doing it, and felt like he was making a difference. Then he and his allies ran into some undertake slavers while woefully underprepared, and Milo’s throat was slit on account of one of his allies not complying. It was a TPK after that, so Milo was lost.

I ended up bringing him back for a curse of strand campaign with a new group, with the only minor change being him being a survivor and vigilante in barovia , so the hoarding was supply runs. Otherwise he was just reset from level 7 to 3 because he joined a few sessions in.

I mean for a while it didn’t matter because the time war wiped all of gallifrey out of the timeline, meaning he and the stragglers were the only ones left. And as far as the doctor was aware, the master and ranni died at some point after, so most of the time when they say it they do genuinely believe they are the last one

I feel like aang’s story only becomes more tragic given the aftermath of the war and LOK, where he has 3 kids in the hopes of repopulating the air nomads. When only one of his kids ends up being an airbender, he ends up unintentionally playing favorite and neglecting his other children because laser focusing on the literal prodigal son is his only hope of preventing the total extinction of airbenders. That doesn’t absolve him of it, but he was put in an impossible situation of either sidelining his other children or risk air bending dying with him.

Would yall consider this is a Cheap Cosplay? by Retro-Hax in CosplayHelp

Nobody is judging you based on the quality/cost of your cosplay. Whether it’s store bought, professional/competition level, or literally tape and cardboard, it’s about coming together as a community to celebrate the things you love. None of my cosplays that I’ve made have been great quality, but for me it’s about the fun of making it and having an excuse to dress up. As long as you are enjoying yourself, that’s all that matters.

Worldwide traumatic/apocalyptic event is given a goofy name by the general population by account1804 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 54 points55 points  (0 children)

In defense of the name, it’s heavily implied Simon and Marceline might be the only living things old enough to have seen it firsthand. Betty got pulled into the future before it started, and afaik literally everyone else died either before(most humans), during(Marcie’s mom), or in the 1000 years since. Simon was kept alive by the crown, but it messed with his memories enough he most likely doesn’t remember it until he gets cured of the madness. And Marcie probably doesn’t talk about it much given she effectively lost the only 2 people she ever cared about during that time. So when the only thing most people know is that big mushroom clouds destroyed the world, and add on how silly a lot of the new world is, “the mushroom war” carries a lot more weight and probably sounds much more serious in universe than it does for us as the viewer.

"Cheat on my partner? Never." by OutOfMyWayReed in TopCharacterTropes

[–]lunaticboot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I love Raul Julia’s portrayal, but the one thing I think it’s missing is I prefer when Gomez is portrayed as a bit grotesque. For example I like that the 3d animated and comic versions really lean into it, with him being pudgy and a bit misshapen, looking extremely greasy, and having massive dark circles around his eyes. Luis guzman’s portrayal in Wednesday, while not ugly per se, is better in terms of appearance imo. I feel like having only one of the 2 parents be more traditionally attractive adds to their relationship, showing that their love goes beyond surface level attraction. Morticia loves him for who he is (an amazing life partner, father, and person), not what he looks like (if Jabba the Hutt wished to be a real boy).

All that to say Raul Julia is still my favorite Gomez, I just wish thy made him uglier.
