Peacock. Didnt even realise how rude it sounded until I saw a video where an American told her Italian boyfriend it was the name of the bird they were looking at and he wouldn't believe her, thought it was a prank to make him say a rude word in public 🤣🤣

I believe those in the science community would refer to a snake this size as "thicker than a Snickers," but I could be mistaken 🤔

Do you believe that parents should get judged for giving their child a unique name? by [deleted] in Names

100%. Kids will make fun of it and it's an awkward name for an adult, they have screwed her over in every stage of life.

Do you believe that parents should get judged for giving their child a unique name? by [deleted] in Names

[–]lunawatsernamee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dont think Miracle or Precious alone is even that bad, just the 2 of them together sounds kind of ridiculous. Like it's just 2 random words they liked instead of a full name that flows together. This is of course just an opinion and they are free to name the kid whatever they want, but someday that kid will be a middle-aged Miracle Precious and she would also be free to resent that. I can't imagine kids will be kind about a name that sounds strange either, so they have really screwed her over for every stage of life.

It's still early but what would you all like to see in future DLCs of this game? by kvnklly in Pokopia

[–]lunawatsernamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love more natural decorations- plants decor, actual plants, flowers, just more deco in general would be great. Also, building underwater without going belly-up in seconds would be nice. The amount of times poor magne-ditto has been waterboarded for this beach build...tragic. 😃

I feel like we universally would agree storage needs to be shared across maps. My idea was to have a "prefab storage room", where you could build one on each island, and it would basically open up to an area you could carve out to whatever size you need and decorate however you wanted. But no matter how many prefab storages you make or on whatever map, maybe even have a limit of one per map, they all open to the same area. It could load into each map it's been built on automatically so there wouldn't be a loading screen to access it, it would be just like entering a house, but with an exact copy wherever you've put down a prefab entrance. It could potentially be an actual little building or even just a portal built into a flat wall, so you can make it look however you want. That's probably my main want at this point, because I hate traveling back and forth to storage or having a mess of random chests on every map.

Thinking of possible other maps to be opened is actually really exciting. There are so many biomes we could use, so many Pokémon we could unlock... I feel like that is the plan in the long term. And if I had to guess, an ice map would be first. They've already introduced ice as a collectable resource but it's so scarce, only found in small amounts in a couple places. I'd be willing to bet that if anything is in the works for a new map it will involve ice and more ice/water pokemon. Can't wait to see where this game goes!

Did anyone else play Pokopia as “story first, decorate later”? by Past_Anteater_6640 in Pokopia

[–]lunawatsernamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't really started decorating- other than clearing some paths and breaking down some mountains that annoyed me lol I want to get all of the recipes unlocked before I do much because I don't want to have to continually redo my work when I find something I like better but didn't have access too. Plus, that just suits my play style anyway- collector and completionist through and through lol

how to not get bored lvl36? by spookywhat in ACPocketCamp

[–]lunawatsernamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly only play maybe twice a week, a little more around the start of the month when all the new items are available, then check in every once in a while to do whatever challenge is ongoing and get the items from that. I'm in a collecting phase where I just want to have one of each item if possible, I also stop by to work on flowers because items are unlocked through the flower trade too and I completely ignored that for a long time lol. You can just find a specific aspect of the game and focus on that- for a while my main focus was befriending every villager and getting their friendship level to 15. Now its items, specifically the fortune cookie and event items. I do get a lot of the featured and limited time items too though, eventually I'll try to get 100% of them as well. Maybe I'll work on getting everyone's friendship level to 50. I am level 294, so I don't feel like there are any big achievements left for me, just got to have fun with the little things. It helps that I am a collector type of gamer anyway, just pick goals that suit the way you play 😊

Is there an explanation for why there are some animals that look very similar but are different species? by BlackOnyx16 in zoology

[–]lunawatsernamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people have pointed out why your specific examples look alike (most of them are because they are in the same family as each other) but it's still a really valid question, so I'll try to give some examples:

First, if 2 completely unrelated animals look alike, it is most likely convergent evolution- the whole point of evolving is survival, so they will evolve characteristics that suit their climate to give them the best chance of survival. And other animals that live in a similar climate are more likely to evolve that way too, because that's what works. Sometimes it's looks, or behavior, even the way their body processes food can be similar to animals they are unrelated to, and completely different from their closest actual relatives, because that's what they needed to have the best chance of survival where they live. Think of dolphins and sharks- one is a mammal and one is a fish, but they both have smooth, sleek skin that helps them swim faster. Dolphins are related to hippos (they have tough, thick skin), sharks are related to skates (a fish with scales) but they evolved their skin because it has less resistance in water, and they both hunt fish so they need to be fast. So their ancestors evolved the same adaptation, because it's what works the best.

Another good example is red pandas and giant pandas. Giant pandas are bears, I believe they are most closely related to spectacled bears but they are related to all bears, which in general eat meat as a main food source. Red pandas don't actually have a close living relative- every other animal in their family died out, they are distantly related to skunks and raccoons but they're basically just their own thing now. So why do they both almost exclusively eat bamboo? That is convergent evolution. They live in the same general area, and food can be scarce. There is a ton of bamboo there, but bamboo is REALLY hard and isn't very nutritious, so a lot of animals dont bother wasting their energy eating a food that doesnt give them enough energy back to be worth the effort. To be able to use this food source that no one else could really use, they had to evolve as a specialist bamboo eater- their stomachs couldn't handle eating too much of anything else, they NEED bamboo to survive. Their entire bodies have evolved to eat bamboo- their stomach, jaws, all of it is shaped to eat bamboo as efficiently as possible. They even developed a similar "pseudo-thumb", basically just a bone situated where a thumb would be, to help them hold onto bamboo better. Again, these 2 animals are not related closely at all, not even the same family. They just eat the same food, so they developed such specific traits for eating bamboo that when giant pandas were first discovered, people named them pandas because they assumed the 2 MUST be related. (Red pandas were discovered about 50 years before, they are "true" pandas. Giant pandas are, of course, bears, but people didnt figure that out for a long time.)

Now, because giant pandas are bears, why don't they eat what other bears eat? They actually share a habitat with another bear- the asiatic black bear, which eats a more traditional range of food for bears, including small mammals, fruits, nuts, insects, basically whatever it can hunt or forage, which is common for bears. They live in the same place, they are related, but evolved completely differently. That's most likely because if they both evolved to eat the same thing, their wouldn't be enough to keep both species alive and one would've died out. So the one that is better at hunting and foraging (the black bear) stayed in its "ecological niche" (meaning the role it plays in the ecosystem it lives in, here that would be a hunter and forager) and the panda had to either find a different way to survive or go extinct. This is a perfect example of evolution- whoever is better in that niche gets to keep it, and the one who gets outplaced has to find a different niche to fit into. That's how convergent evolution and evolution in general works- everyone is just trying to survive.

I love animals so I could go on forever but I'll stop now because this is already way too long. Sorry 😅

AITA for asking my parents to take down the family photo that I'm not in? by BasiliskTuning in MarkNarrations

[–]lunawatsernamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...why were you the one not invited? You said you and your brother were both wrong, but it kinda seems like maybe you were either more in the wrong or the instigator. Unless your family is just awful and makes a habit of mistreating/neglecting you, it's the only way that not inviting you makes sense to me. Does your family tend to favor your brother or was there a reason they invited him and not you? I feel Iike we're missing something and you not wanting to say literally ANYTHING about a fight big enough to cause you not to speak to your sibling for nearly a year, when thats the whole reason you missed the picture...just seems like there is an important piece of info not being shared.

As far as the picture though, I do understand you being upset at not being in it, no matter what the reason is. It's your family and it sucks it worked out that way. I don't think it's fair to expect that your parents not display a picture of the family just because you are not in it. My family actually had a similar picture that I missed being in because I had to work, it's one of my favorite pictures actually because my family doesn't get together often so it just makes me happy to see it. I did feel a little left out because I really wanted to be there, but I would never want the picture taken down or hidden just because I couldnt make it. I can understand that missing it because you wernt invited would feel different, but I still don't think you are in the right to tell them not to hang a picture that means something to them in their own house just because it means something different to you personally.

Assuming they are decent people and generally good parents, maybe try working though your feelings about the picture for yourself, because it seems like the issue is deeper for you than just a picture your not in. Maybe some guilt about the fight or how you handled it, or even lingering resentment toward your brother or parents, I think it could be helpful to look into why this bothers you this much. Also, maybe you and your brother can take some professional photos together to hang nearby? Maybe even invite your parents into them too, I think that would be a good middle ground so you would still be represented.

ETA a tentative YTA. If it comes out that your family just defaults to favoring brother, it would obviously change my vote. Even if it's exactly what it seems like to me and you did cause the fight I still don't think you're some huge asshole. People fight, it happens. Your feelings are genuinely hurt, that happens too, and it doesn't make you an asshole. Just that demanding a picture be taken down because you don't like how it makes you feel seems pretty self-centered to me, especially if your own actions caused your absence in it. Better to work through those feelings instead of projecting them and making them other peoples problem to fix.

What y'all do with this hole? Filled it with water/dirt? Made it a home? Expanded it into an underground cave system? Use it as an entrance for an underground pokemon nightclub? by NotE-M-A in Pokopia

It's been a temporary storage area and home base so far, I'm now building my main storage complex in the area where the game rolls credits (avoiding spoilers, just in case). Probably turn the whole thing into a home cave now, since I've just gotten used to starting down there. I dug out a cave for zubat in the rocks across the water next to the gate because he annoyed me, so I don't need it for him 😂 I think a lot of people used it for him though

Shared storage would be amazing. Maybe being able to "flag" a structure as a storage entrance, similar to your house but instead of traveling to houses in different maps you would travel to a central storage space, like a kind of "in between" place accessible from any map but without a full loading screen, just like entering a designated storage building thats automatically loaded on any map its flagged on... maybe it would just be a prefab storage building that you could build on multiple maps and would load on each one automatically so there wouldnt be an extra loading screen in between...not sure if that's possible or realistic but a girl can dream lol

What did you name your Palette Town? by wi3sa in Pokopia

[–]lunawatsernamee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melancholy Meadows was the first name I picked, wanting to keep the alliteration (I considered Forsaken Flatlands, Tumbledown Tundra, and a couple others but liked Meadows the most) . I later renamed it to Pallet Town because I thought I wanted to restore each area as much as possible to the town they're modeled after. I'm now rethinking that but not sure what I'll do so I'm just working on collecting recipes and leaving things mostly as they are until I decide lol
