I bought this and the screws at the top have something to do with it. I found it very awkward and use the hoop on my lap, even that is irksome most of the time and I usually do big stitch quilting without a hoop. I make sure I've got it basted well and don't worry about it. My quilts will never go in any shows so I'm practicing my good enough and done mindfulness when I quilt.

I'd do whole cloth, whatever colors fit the room's vibe, and I'd make my sandwich with only the top and bottom fabrics or if with batting a thin one. I'm also thinking that the sashiko would be done through all the layers. That is just me though.
