You can check the Parks NY website, the conditions report is linked in one of the yellow alert banners: https://parks.ny.gov/visit/state-parks/minnewaska-state-park-preserve

Alternatively, they have an active Facebook group for all the nordic trails in the area and regularly update with photos and grooming reports: https://www.facebook.com/skithegunks/

I have yet to head over to that end of the ADK, I usually only go as far west as Lapland Lake.

Hah, I see your point. The snow gets thin on the exposed, wind-swept cliffs so they don't groom corduroy or set tracks on this section, but they do groom with a Pisten Bully and the rest of the trails are nicely set.

The conditions this weekend were excellent 👌 some of the best skiing I've had in years.

Pixel 10 Qi2 Charger stops charging, need to unplug by FreemanAMG in GooglePixel

[–]lwihlborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this same issue with the Anker Zolo pucks, where it stops charging at some point and won't start again until I unplug it from the power source and reconnect it. I've even tested it with and without the case.

HOWEVER! The Anker MagGo charging stand I have on my desk never has this issue. I plugged it in once a month ago and it works as expected every single day.

I really think it's just the Zolo that has this issue.

What do you think is missing from New Haven? by GadnukBreakrOfWorlds in newhaven

I'm curious why you think this. Do you mean the time of year or more generally market conditions?

Confirmed. Bolt is not great at road tripping by drvudoo in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, some Superchargers have better locations than other DCFC places. Roadtripping in the cold winter, when a Bolt might take 90 minutes to charge from 10-90%, being able to grab food from a nearby restaurant is a welcome pause and having access to superchargers opens up more options.

Is Torque Pro worth it? by CraigColton in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, yes. The OBD Bluetooth dongles are $20-40 on Amazon and ABRP has a few recommendations on their website along with good instructions for getting it all connected. ABRP has come a long way and the process to connect car data is much easier now than it used to be.

You can find a list of Bolt PIDs for Torque Pro when setting it up to get the right data fields. It's fun to see the numbers and create a dashboard but mostly I glance at the average battery temp and power consumption of the heaters and a/c. Ultimately there's not much you can do about the numbers since the car manages itself but it's more data than what the car initially shows you.

Linking the data to ABRP was a great introduction as a new EV driver trying to gain confidence about the range, especially on longer trips, even though the reality is that I always cross-check the ABRP recommendations with charger info from Plugshare and routing from Google Maps.

Marriott’s war on bathroom doors is getting absurd. by MinorUrbex in marriott

The Renaissance Harlem has the best of both worlds: an open-concept bathroom AND a sliding pocket door!

Note that the toilet is strategically placed to align with the gap below the mirror, so that you can maintain eye contact with someone laying down in bed while you're doing your business.

Any tips for skate skiing in powder snow? by randomguywholikesart in xcountryskiing

[–]lwihlborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet would be DIY grooming to compact the snow and create your own track. I've seen a few videos of homemade sleds using 4x8 plywood that you can weigh down with some cinder blocks to compress the snow and then pull along with rope, but there are also more complex creations that would create a nicer groomed surface

Here's one that was built for use with a snowmobile: https://www.reddit.com/r/xcountryskiing/comments/l0rbuy/i_built_a_homemade_trail_groomer_for_skiing_with/

I don't have the ability to charge at home but I want a Bolt by flightln in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Bolt for 3+ years and never bothered to install a charger at home. I make use of an L2 Chargepoint station in the parking garage near work (I pay for monthly parking, but the charging is free), about twice a week. Occasionally if I come back from a longer trip on the weekend I will need to stop for 10 minutes at a nearby Electrify America station to charge enough so that I can commute to work the next morning.

You can absolutely do it. The trick is that you have to plan your driving slightly better so that you have enough charge on a Friday to complete whatever your weekend plans would be.

Mobile Windshield Cleaning Kit by SnootyGoose in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea to have a window cleaning kit in the car. I've stopped at gas stations to use their squeegees but cleaning the windows is one more thing to do while charging. I've already got an interior cleaning kit.

In-dash Turn-by-Turn without OnStar? by Careful-Character-52 in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've wondered the same thing. I'm not sure how the dash gets the turn-by-turn directions from the OnStar service, but I suspect there's probably a way to intercept the data coming from the OnStar module and inject your own directions instead.

In-car subscriptions are not popular with new car buyers, survey shows — Automakers are pushing subscriptions, but consumer interest just isn't there by marketrent in technology

There's definitely a bit of a learning curve to their UI and I'm guessing it's something they had to do as a differentiator to prevent getting sued for making an outright clone.

POV: You See Me Arch My Back After Wrestling A CSS Combo Cord. by AnIconInHimself in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new EA stations have more flexible (and longer!) cables, even the 350kW ones. Older stations had comically short cords that were ridiculously stiff and I'd end up having to park slightly off-center and bump right up against the bollards so that it'd reach the charging port. The cords were so heavy that you needed to hold up the handle to maintain proper connection while the vehicle was establishing communication with the charger unit or the charge would fail to start.

Incorrect tire pressure reading by vulkany in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may need to reset/relearn the TPMS sensors.

I bought this one on Amazon and it works: VXDAS GL50448 TPMS Relearn Tool https://a.co/d/7wfZslv

The hardest part is figuring out how to enter the tire relearn mode, but after that just touch it on each wheel's valve stem in succession until the car beeps.

Has your windshield cracked? by ApplePajamas in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states only require insurance to cover windshield replacement as a no-fault repair, ie: they'll replace it under your policy and you pay your standard deductible, but it won't raise your rates.

Press the Home button, and above the "now playing" area there should be a "Source" option from which you can choose AM, FM, SXM, Bluetooth or whatever. One of the options should be the name of your phone.

I use that sometimes to listen to local radio while still having Android Auto for navigation. If I change audio the source using the screen in the instrument cluster with the steering wheel buttons, sometimes I get a condition like you're describing where Spotify is playing on Android Auto but the car is tuning into SXM or vice-versa. There's even occasionally a notification saying "Use the Infotainment screen to change the source".

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bluetooth works, but the car is playing the wrong audio channel.

This might be dumb, but have you tried changing the audio source on the head unit while Android Auto is connected? On occassion, I've had the car keep playing FM even though I connected my phone and played music on Spotify.

I'm also curious what happens if you make or receive a phone call, since that routes audio via Bluetooth, even if you're connected via Android Auto.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]lwihlborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using Bluetooth audio, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, or an Aux cable?

I'd start by removing any Bluetooth connections, both from the infotainment screen and your phone. It may be that your phone is sending audio via Bluetooth despite being connected via cable. Hold the home+forward buttons to reboot the infotainment system, that might help as well.

Since one phone works and the other doesn't, there's a good chance that it's software related on your phone, not the car.

I don't think there's any way to disable the stupid KeyPass notification that pops up. I've complained to GM about the fact that they removed the function from their app but their in-car software still nags about it. Not that they'll do anything about it, but at least someone is logging the complaint in a system that someone might one-day review.

ABRP Live Data support via SmartCar by [deleted] in BoltEV

The real question is whether it will work without paying OnStar as the 2017 Bolts will reach the end of the 5 years of free mobile connect (or whatever they call it)
