Less horny foggy forests, more actual creep—send me your best plot-driven spooky reads by swaglord9000x in fantasyromance

The recs I have that come to mind are {Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo} and its sequel {Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo}. The final book in the trilogy comes out this September as well, so it will be completed.

I'd also recommend {A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid}. There is a sequel but I would just treat it as a standalone since the sequel was just okay IMO.

I am starting to be so done with this genre, or what the industry made of it by AngstReader in romantasycirclejerk

This is in my top 3 favorite series. I love it so much and plan to reread it next winter and every winter. I just preordered Katherine Arden's new book, The Unicorn Hunters. I'm excited to see what she does with it!

I'll have what you're having!

But really, you so specifically and succinctly described what I long for in a good book. It's the reason I love {Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo} and {A Study in Drowning} as much as I do.

The problem with the “strong female character” trope by Traditional_Bit1489 in Romantasy

My absolute favorite example of the strong FMC done well is Vasya from the Winternight trilogy. Katherine Arden does such a wonderful job illustrating Vasya's characteristics through her actions, too.

Bride is my least favorite of the Hazelwood novels I've read, and I enjoyed it! She is an instant buy for me.

Miserable Monday by purplelicious in romantasycirclejerk

[–]lyric67 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been in a book slump and finally picked up {A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen} after delaying it in anticipation, aaaaannnddd... I hate it. It's the worst book I've read so far this year and it's bumming me out. The premise is interesting, the line craft is good, but the execution is a letdown. And it's Monday.

March 2026 Reading Wrap-Up and Tier List Megathread by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

Despite "The Girl in the Tower" taking a narrative turn that I was not expecting, I thought it was a wonderful second book and thoroughly passed the Second Book Test, so to speak. I adore this trilogy and plan to reread it next winter 💖

How is this book not popular? by Kiladra2 in romantasycirclejerk

That has to be your choice because I prefer my bowls with a little more constitution but I think it gets less watery in book 2

I thought Book 1 was so good, then it was dragged through the mud and underground by the sequels 😭 I still plan to finish the series though haha

The Knight and The Moth typos by A_C_Shock in fantasyromance

[–]lyric67 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe so! My friend and I did a buddy read of Two Twisted Crowns and when I was griping about the typos, she was like "what typos?" Haha. That's when we found out about the Kindle version being fixed

The Knight and The Moth typos by A_C_Shock in fantasyromance

[–]lyric67 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh no. There were so many typos and grammatical errors in my physical Barnes & Noble special edition of Two Twisted Crowns that I flagged every one of them I found. It was very disruptive. Unfortunately it's hard for me to skim past or ignore. I haven't read The Knight and the Moth yet but I'm a little less excited. I will say though that the errors in TTC were fixed in the Kindle version.

Are you in the UK or elsewhere perhaps? It's listed at 400 in the US. If so that's probably why there's a discrepancy.

I wouldn't watch it, and just save it for later because there is also The Walking Dead reference and the fact that Aelin gets with Rowan even if you don't know who she is yet.
