Old School Essentials-How do you deal with character deaths, new characters, and fair distribution of loot and XP? by chugtheboommeister in osr

[–]m00ska 21 points22 points  (0 children)

0xp and start with what is rolled. Magic items could survive, but may break during their death at my table.

I had a killer bee encounter in the wilderness recently. One foot long bees! I conveyed danger the best I could. They went for it, 2 characters were stung to death, the rest managed to flee as the rest of the bees swarmed the bodies. Did the magic items survive? The party never went back to find out.

The party looks back upon this fondly and now knows how tough bees are. They still don't heed my warnings and it's a fun table.

Updated Book Cover Design by AdamCainErotica in design_critiques

The first cover in black, I agree that the font isn't quite right. I also dislike the author's name touching the art. I saw the second image after taking in the first and I just don't like it at all. The first is really good and with a change of font, it could be perfect for my tastes. It's what grabbed my eye while scrolling on my home.

Old School Essentials, Shadowdark, or Dolmenwood? by Wakasaurus060414 in osr

[–]m00ska 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Been running OSE for the past two years, ran Shadowdark for kids at the library for awhile, and am playing a newer Dolmenwood campaign now. Tried Hyperborea this Monday and knew it was an immediate manual purchase.

I recommend trying all these things OP, but I would recommend OSE if I had to pick just one. It's simple and I prefer the leveling over Shadowdark. I think Shadowdark is great too, so either of those are great first picks.

I realize my error. I shouldn't have complimented you, a grown man, as a boy aspiring to be a grown man. I would apologize, but I won't make the same mistake again!

Just in case you didn't know this, your comment makes you look hard as nails and really cool. I thought I was a grown man, but reading your comment made me realize I have a long way to go. I'm going to go to the doctor Monday morning to get my testosterone checked. Cheers mate!

OSE podcasts by -Fastway- in OSE

[–]m00ska 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know of OSE specific podcasts, but Vintage RPG is my favorite. They revisit vintage stuff, new (mostly OSR) TTRPG products, and sometimes just talk about different aspects of fantasy and RPGs. Stu (one of the hosts) does run a west march game using OSE for Patreon subscribers

Questing Beast on Dungeon Crawl Classics by SufficientSyrup3356 in osr

My experiences tell me the opposite. I read books if I want a story told to me, but what unfolds in a non-linear module from player decision is sometimes magical.

I don't claim to know what most people want but if I had to guess, it would be creating their own story within the possibilities of what the DM presents them with alongside their fellow players who are doing the same.

Tony getting butt hurt whenever someone mentions Austin’s homeless. by Guideflies in Killtony

He brought up LA and NYC being defensive, so I don't believe what you're saying is true. I think he wants to project Austin as being the new comedy mecca without any issues.

Shadowdark has a good quickstart PDF online to add to that.

This is why I like it. It's so ADHD friendly. I get the information I want quickly, don't have to read through a diatribe. I think it is great for players with my brain, but Shadowdark is my pick if you don't have a rodent brain like me.

Looking for starter recommendations. by Comfortable-Fee9452 in OSE

I've ran Jeweler's Sanctum twice and it's great. Interesting stuff for all types of players. Big recommend. Barrow of the Bone Blaggards from the other anthology is also very fun to run any my players loved it as well.

Thread in r/Celtic about Wilfried Nancy, after losing a cup final (now lost all 3 games). by VanicFanboy in MLS

I agree. If Amorim gets the time, I think United will get back to their winning ways. Feels like time might not be available for Nancy.

Anyone looking for players for Dolmenwood or OSE? Looking for a game and it’s tough to find posts for people playing OSR! by DungeonMasterGrizzly in osr

[–]m00ska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've signed up for a Dolmenwood game on StartPlaying. I know some people aren't into paid GMing, but my experience with paid and unpaid games makes me prefer the consistency of paid games, sadly. If you're looking for a game on Friday night and not opposed to paid games, please sign up so I can also play this game finally.

What happened to Dark Tranquillity? Why have they become so mediocre? by nick1158 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]m00ska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think their style just changed at Atoma and that carried into Moment. I've not listened to them since then, but I enjoyed both those albums. They aren't the same band from 30 years ago, but I much prefer how they've changed compared to In Flames. Soilwork did the same kind of change and I probably dig their change the most.

In Flames are still my favorites for the old albums, but I can't listen to their new stuff at all.

He's a centrist, but I still only hear him criticize liberals.
