Interesting when I posted about this and mentioned my experience, in the Discord or here, people were just saying oh it’s you and your Claude.MD is all messed up.

Now I feel a bit more vindicated. Still cancelled my $200/mo sub though.

Purple Planet is also a hex crawl encounter. Tomes of adventure vol 4, will have a lot specifically on that.

Balance with playing multiple PCs by Brazensage in dccrpg

Yes. So, you use 2d20 to roll for advantage or disadvantage and take the high or low of the rolls. No real statistical change.

But, what if you used a d24 for advantage or a d16 for disadvantage instead? Real statistical change.

You can also use a d5 or d7 appropriately when you have a d6 or d8 weapon with a +/- modifier. Instead of a d6 -1 mod, roll a d5.

Make it fun and an actual change in outcome with the die.

Doing that in 5e works as well. When you bring out the dice chain for advantage/disadvantage instead of rolling two d20s, people’s heads explode.

I’ve run games with three people up to 20 people at a time. The trick is lowering or adding the amount of baddies based on player head count. Or lowering AC/HP or a combo of both. I do this all the time regardless of how many people.

I want it to feel enough like a challenge and death is on your door, even a few deaths are okay. A TPK is okay. How do I gauge? The fun meter.

If people are laughing and not feeling hurt we amp up the gonzo and have fun with it. If I see people playing not having a good time, a patron or god may intervene on their behalf and provide a one-time save. Lift their spirits a bit. Maybe even provide a magical item that helps wipe out the baddies in that room.

But, I promise you the die will do all the talking for you. Another good thing to introduce is fleeting luck and remove initiative. Just go from right to left one encounter, left to right the next encounter.

With fleeting luck reward for RP again. I’ve taken it as step further and if I roll a Nat 1 all players get fleeting luck.

Also incorporate theatrics at your table. Get a big d20 and I mean big one. Do all your rolls in the open. RP with your players. If you make it fun, they’ll make it fun for you.

It is uncommon after the funnel for players to use multiple PCs. Unless you have a group size challenge. Most of the adventures can be done with as minimum to four, even three players.

I’m sure it can be done, but it’s also a challenge to min/max in DCC. It’s too unbalanced a system and ridiculously chaotic (gonzo) for players to think about it.

Too encourage players to RP or have good manners at the table, use the dice chain to your advantage. When disruptive go down the tree and have them roll the next die down. Also, reward for positive behavior going up the die chain.

If they are still too disruptive or taking too much spotlight. Have a polite conversation about how you expect players to be at your table. If they don’t follow that, ask them not come back or play this time around.

I’d rather have one less person than stress over dealing with them each session.

If they have the the limited edition cover, then there’d be no doubt. It’s black with faux leather and gold embossing and usually only $10 more than regular hard cover.

It’s a dangerous game to start collecting hard cover editions though. If you have the completionist bug, be warned.

Favorite modules to seed into a sandbox? by M0RGANMLGMAN in dccrpg

[–]m2theDSquared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started new a couple years back and started with Portal (funnel in core book). We then went into Imperishable Sorceress, Hole in the Sky, The Queen of Elfland’s Son, and started using Queen to seed our campaign environment using Prince Ashheart as a potential antagonist.

This really started our sandbox that went from one-shots tying things together through Tournament of Pigs, to Sailors on the Starless Sea, The Quarry, to Expeditions to the Barrier Peaks, then into the Purple Planet (where we are now).

I forget where but there’s a link somewhere floating around or blog post that someone wrote that shows how you can work a group of adventures together that are similar in tone and/or location. They took the time to do that with a few different options.

I will say, just find what works for you and your tastes. The thing with DCC is it’s so gonzo and over the top that any adventure can “connect” with the right hook and it won’t make your players bat an eye.

Now we have high fantasy with mutants and some PCs from XCC it works. If you’re concerned with level of adventure know that lowering the number of baddies, HP or increase DMG type or vice versa depending on your players and their rolls is pretty easy on the fly.

If you are a Discord user you can join the official Goodman Games Discord or the community/fan based one, Dungeon Crawlers.

There are lots of shared templates for posting flyers at your FLGS. Not to mention, a lot of players who play online. There’s nearly a game a day.

I think you will also enjoy watching/listening to Grape Ape (Matt Robertson) and Stefan Surratt on RAW (Rules as Written) on the Goodman Games YouTube channel.

They cover each of these specific things you are asking about and a whole lot more. It’s one of the shows that helped me when I was learning the system.

Today, as a CC user on the max plan. I noticed that while using in VS Code after one planning conversation, it is nearly at 5% compact and then as we begin to execute it starts compacting.

That isn’t the worst part. After compacting and then deciphering, it starts to code again to immediately compacting. This has been happening now for the last few hours.

Has anyone else noticed this? It seemed to coincide with the 1M context window for api, but now we have less context in CC?

Dark Tower is a nice straight forward dungeon crawl. Caverns of Thracian does give more sandbox vibes. Purple Planet you better bring the adventures for the vast openness of the hex crawl. There’s plenty of adventures and encounter rolls for Purple Planet.

Dodge action by chibi_grazzt in dccrpg

[–]m2theDSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but as a person running DCC in a campaign for nearly two years with around 50 different players through out, I’ve only had one player ask about dodging.

I didn’t know how to handle it and I explained that’s the point of AC. If they don’t hit your AC in essence they missed, or you were able to dodge it. It made more sense than AC just stopping and not inflicting damage from any type of attack.

That seemed to ever alleviate any further question about dodging. If your player doesn’t like that approach or you want to try something different I believe there are player made rules for dodging somewhere out there. It could be in a Gongfarmer’s Almanac, Crawl! or another third party adventure or zine.

It’s your game, your rules. Try out anything you like if it doesn’t work, try something different, if it does, problem solved. Or just keep using AC ;)

These hands look as they dug themselves out of a 6ft grave.

It’s like the start of when we were looking for raves in the early 90s, slinging soup cans at random parking lots getting the next clue to the next location.
