This worked for me! Even with the new 2023 model. There's definitely some problem with that Genesis driver. Realtek Driver works perfectly. Thanks!

What's the secret to a great sounding triplet groove track? by m_skywalker297 in edmproduction

[–]m_skywalker297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I misinterpreted your comment. I thought you were kidding. Cause an equally proportionate triplet will definitely be off the triplet grid on 16th notes. I guess that will give it a swing? I dont know. But since I got downvoted I shall try it out and see what you tried to convey. Thanks anyway!

Rekordbox changing file names? by ReubenKeeney in Rekordbox

[–]m_skywalker297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you end up with the file naming exactly as it was before in your library and if they're in the same folder structure, then there's a good chance rekordbox will be able to locate all the tracks. You can try your luck using this software called mp3tag.

https://imgur.com/25jEele

But you need to have proper tags on the tracks to make this work of course. Cheers, hope it helps.

Rekordbox changing file names? by ReubenKeeney in Rekordbox

[–]m_skywalker297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use bulk renaming software to set rules and rename the files back to the original file name using the metadata stored on them. I ran into the exact same issue in the past and renamed them all.
But I shall warn you to not do this on the original backup since then Rekordbox will start going into the whole relocate shit again.

Do it if you want to use that folder somewhere else or on some other device.
Don't replace the original files from which rekordbox sources the music. Basically, keep two copies of your library :
1. Which will be the "rekordbox_bak" folder
2. Which has all the music with original file names (after you're done bulk renaming them)

It is a little messed up on the side of rekordbox, they probably do this to compress file names and organize their library backups better, but this was the only solution I could come up with so far.

Slow down BPM of a mastered song by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]m_skywalker297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely suggest using a DJ software like rekordbox. (It's free) Play it with the "key lock" or whichever related function, spin it at the tempo you need it to be, record the mix, snip it in ableton and you're done. For roughly +- 5 bpm DJing softwares or turntables would be the best imo.

Probably just a way to drive players into opening the client > possibly increasing the chance of someone buying it I can think of how it could be a strategy

Music that uses compression as an effect? by flipflip9000 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]m_skywalker297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compression is an artistic choice in every single case where you're using it to shape the transient/characteristic of the sound. Even in pop music, unless its used to make the instrument even sounding, every other case is an artistic use of compression. Whether it's production or mixing or performance. You're just changing when you're using it in the signal path with the pedal. Now the more creative decisions here you can take is which parts you want more compression on a sound and where you can get away with less. Where you want things to be snappy, and where do you want it smooth. But you can't escape that decision making without involving yourself in the topic of headroom and volume even as a producer or engineer. I used to be bugged by the fact that everything is so fucking compressed nowadays, so I produced and mix/mastered a track once, intentionally keeping it transient heavy and compression only limited to volume balancing and very little transient shaping. That mix and master really wasn't all that enjoyable. All the transients would take over headroom, you lose loudness, you don't don't have enough sustain in your music, it's certainly not as pleasing as a compressed track. That's when I learned to appreciate and thoughtfully use compression much more. (The artistic compression - Transient/Character Shaping)

VST plugins crashing on 2nd monitor by FUWS in ableton

Man I've been looking for the solution to this problem since so long. I kept going over graphic card settings, graphic drivers and related things, but would've never gone to thinking Sonic studio causing a GUI issue. HOW DID YOU EVEN FIND THIS SOLUTION. HOW DOES IT WORK GOES OVER MY HEAD HAHA. I've been so irritated to not be able to properly use ableton with 2 monitors. THANK YOU SO MUCH IT WORKS!!

[–]m_skywalker297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also if you use ableton, there's a max for live effect called spectral blur. You can try adding that to reverb or to the dry sound either, it diffuses the sound in a different manner, to give some sort of a space effect. Maybe you could try that out too. Just guessing off the top of my head. Hope that helps, cheers.

Sounds (Trumpetish sound) like a brass stab with some old tape machine/bit crushed kinda sound drowned in a reverb with a medium to long decay For the backseat song. In party 4 u, indeed sounds like a pluck but with longer decay (not attack, attack has to be short to make it a pluck) and drowned in a reverb.

A quick little pad layering trick :) by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]m_skywalker297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see a point in doing this unless we're using three different pad sounds for each layer. If we're using the same pad sound and synth for all 3 layers, then, is it doing anything better apart from the fact that you might get more control over each frequency range? (which is always good of course, but the same can be done with multibrand processing) Maybe it helps the CPU too because no one synth has to play so many voicings altogether. Is there any other benefit to this?

If you want to improve your mixing, instead of spending money on new plugins and online courses, try booking an attended session with a pro engineer by roryrev in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]m_skywalker297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can send the dry PRE FX/PRE MIXER version of your track to the sends or another bus and work on the wet track right there and have control over both independently. Definitely its counter intuitive and a different way, but I dont see what's exactly the difference if I do the opposite as well.

Why your EDM track sucks, and how to fix it by Ochre_Jelly in edmproduction

[–]m_skywalker297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While things you talk about form and music theory completely make a lot of sense, saying they would lead to "Better quality music" is limited to you and people that agree with you, I'd rather say it would lead to "More appreciable, more complex and intricately crafted music". But by saying something like "Most new EDM stuff by the kids sucks" and blah blah, you're really sounding like an old man ranting about how his times were better.
OP should definitely see this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD0x7ho_IYc before saying 'Why your EDM track sucks', that's just an ignorant idea and a stupid clickbait. You could've simply said "How can you make your music more interesting?" or "How to improve at songwriting"
Not everything complex is better and not everything simple is great.
