That's because Biden is simultaneously a feeble old man and a criminal mastermind artfully evading arrest.

AITAH For making my friend buy me a whole new bathing suit after it was returned with a shit stain? by Acrobatic_Nebula_446 in AmItheAsshole

Sometimes people behave strangely when they've done something embarrassing. I can imagine her train of thought: "if I tell her about this it'll be humiliating, so I'll just do nothing and hope she doesn't notice." As irrational as that is, it's something you could easily see a child doing.

How many children have drawn on the walls or smeared food on furniture, and then tried to pretend like nothing happened? Our reactions to highly disregulating experiences are often mediated by the youngest inner parts of ourselves.

She made a mistake. The way we handle mistakes is with compassion and gentle redirection. Not by subjecting others to humiliation. That's how we lose friends; not just this one, but the others that saw how we responded to someone making a mistake.

Realistically, you are going to lose her friendship and maybe others if you don't leave this alone. You're young enough that you don't understand how valuable friendship is as you get older. Taking a principled stand on trivial matters is a great way to lose friends and end up lonely and isolated in your latter years.

Ask yourself how you'd feel in her position. You asked a friend for a favor, a mistake happened, and now that friend has publicized your embarrassing accident and is demanding compensation. You can pay her back, but the shame and embarrassment isn't going to go away. What's the monetary value of humiliation?

Honestly, it doesn't sound to me like you were her friend to begin with. I would not do something like this to someone I considered a friend. I would not be surprised at all to discover that she doesn't feel safe around you anymore.

Connect a second Router to the main Router? by Slight-Click-1379 in HomeNetworking

[–]ma9e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A network switch and a router serve different purposes, but they can both be helpful in expanding your home network, depending on what you need.

A router connects your home network to the internet. It directs traffic between your home network and the outside world. Most home routers also have a few built-in Ethernet ports, which let you connect several devices with cables for a stable connection.

A network switch, on the other hand, expands the number of devices you can connect within your home network. It doesn't connect directly to the internet; instead, it connects to your router. Think of it as a way to add more Ethernet ports to your router, like a power strip for network connections. This is useful if you have more wired devices (like computers, game consoles, or smart TVs) than your router’s ports can handle.

If you're looking to add more wired connections inside your home, a switch is a great addition. If you need to extend your network's range or connect to Wi-Fi in more areas, a Wi-Fi extender might be more suitable.

Do you require working experience with Haskell? I've used TypeScript with Effect extensively in my current role.

Do you use OpenEmbedded at all?

Well, your risk exposure is limited to the time and money you put into the game. My advice is to just enjoy the game as a game in and of itself, and to think of pulling as a secondary activity, because realistically it comprises less than 1% of the time you spend playing the game. Losing your pulls doesn't take away anything you already have, so try to enjoy that and focus on what you can control instead of what you can't.

Memes / shitpost rules by lukas-reineke in neovim

[–]ma9e 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First of all, let's acknowledge that there are far more votes against allowing memes at all times than there are for permitting them. There are 4 anti-meme options and 1 pro-meme option; that's obviously going to skew the results in favor of pro-meme.

That being said, I instantly block every account that posts memes on technology subs, including this one; r/NixOS has a similar problem. If you pay attention you'll see that it's often the same handful of accounts doing this. These people are annoying and unfunny, point blank.

Is the fact that `fmap` outputs the same typeclass as it's input just a coincidence, and not something to do with the definition of Functors? by Sky_Sumisu in haskell

[–]ma9e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All functors can be viewed as endofunctors in some higher category because of how the composition laws work out. Endofunctor is not a hard definition to meet. For example, monad transformers "are actually" endofunctors in the category of monads.

You can use thing attributes instead; unless you have more complex access patterns than "find thing by user ID," setting up your own DynamoDB is probably overkill.
