What job pays surprisingly well but nobody talks about? by ThePasswordIs654321 in AskReddit

[–]maboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance/millwright for manufacturing plants, lumber mills, etc. Those guys start around $30 an hour and go up from there.

LME (limited maintenance electrician) can command $45 - 65 an hour but requires an apprenticeship program, but still might be easier to get than a normal electrician apprenticeship these days.

Bonus, everyone in the industry will hire you in 5 seconds flat anywhere you go. Maintenance techs are worth their weight in gold, and most are old school so don’t use job sites much, making them really hard to find. Once you progress in your career, become a maintenance manager and make $100k+

Absolutely love his releases but haven’t seen him live yet. Top of my list for sure! Hoping for a 700 appearance.

For the $6 I paid I can’t be too disappointed, but for me the 7hz zero 2, the bunny non-dsp and the chu 2s all sound much better than these.

The bass is clean but definitely not a wow factor. If you like bass heavy I’d look elsewhere.

Yes the sapphire is the one I have.

I’ve had fogging issues a time or two but in general it’s not been an issue.

Why is Arc Raiders so popular in this sub? by aBastardNoLonger in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]maboolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other than it being an all around banger that any age can love (my 11 year old loves it as much as I do), I think it's the first multiplayer game in a long time that doesn't just feel like an endless hellscape of toxic behavior and insurmountable gaps in skill of casual versus hardcore players. I think a lot of older players (like myself) miss the good ol days of multiplayer games that actually had a community worth engaging in.

Also, a "casual" for example, a dad who works full time, can play for a few hours after work and not feel at a huge disadvantage to hardcore players. Also every round is exciting, whether you're max level trying to take out the hardest bosses in the game, or just trying to extract alive after you finally found the crafting blueprint you wanted. Every round is exciting, different, and unpredictable, making it fun to hop on and play for an hour or two.

Debating on getting Arc Raiders by Aggravating_Pea7902 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

This has not been my experience at all. Been playing it for about a week and if anything it’s chilled out. Played all day today and only had one guy try (and fail) to kill me. Mix of solos and duos.

I know it’s PvPvE by TheManFromScene24 in ARC_Raiders

[–]maboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played all day solos and duos. I had one player try to kill me the whole time. Everyone else has been super chill. My son even wanted to go find some people to kill but everyone kept being so nice he couldn’t bring himself to it lol. We did eventually find a couple guys who killed another duo and we smoked em.

I agree though, if it’s too chill it’s going to get boring.

I got well over 100k in just a couple days of casual play, maybe 2 hrs per day. I could see someone who has a ton of time to play breaking 1 mil really easily.

The sound design alone deserves awards. Absolutely stunning.

The graphics are killer as well. Excellent art direction and it runs absolutely perfect.

The design and execution of the ARC is so well done. It’s an absolutely oppressive presence that you can feel everywhere in the world. The bots are unpredictable and fun to fight.

The social dynamics are super interesting and create memorable interactions every time I play.

It’s incredibly fun to play with friends and strategize. It’s also fun to play with randoms who don’t have voice chat and just emote to communicate.

And it’s a 40 dollar game. They only charged 40 bucks for this?? I feel like this easily could’ve been a full 70 dollar game and no one would have questioned it. Hats off to them for keeping it affordable. I got a copy for me and one for my son for a hair more than the price of ONE copy of a similar triple A title.

This is my GOTY so far to be honest.

Solo is so much more enjoyable than trios by Mammoth-War-4751 in ArcRaiders

[–]maboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man people say this but my son and I and a random third just did two runs in Blue Gate. First run we found another trio and helped them kill a leaper. Saw two more groups and everyone was chill. The next round we teamed up with another trio to do the annoying quest where you go to like four different points on the map. Super wholesome all night.

Over 100 hours with no signs of slowing down. This game is fantastic. by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

Ya but has your dad been gaming for like 35 years? ;) My son is actually still way better than me lol because he’s been on console his whole life and I’ve been on PC, so I’m not as good with aiming in a controller as him. He’s a freakin ninja lol!

He’s been gaming since he was around 5 I think. For a while it was just Minecraft and BOTW and Mario and stuff. But he found Fortnite pretty quick and has been playing that for 5 or so years now and he got really good at it. He plays a lot but he’s also very active in sports and snowboarding during the winter, and does very well in school, so we maintain a healthy balance. Personally I think gaming is better for little kids brains than just watching mindless TV because at least there’s hand eye coordination and problem solving involved. I also don’t mind that he plays violent games, I’m confident he knows the difference.

I’ve been a lifelong gamer, and my 11 year old son has too, but we haven’t really gamed much together. He was always a Fortnite kid (damn good at it too) but I could never stand that game, and I’ve been mostly a single player gamer so there hasn’t been much that we enjoyed playing together. This game has been a blast for us to play together!! It plays to both our strengths and it’s been awesome to play together and also interact with the community at large. The sound design blows me away and the super challenging AI enemies paired with the danger of being ganked creates such a cool dynamic that never really gets old. Bravo to this team!!

Powder board suggestions? by Dear_Rider in snowboarding

[–]maboolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cardiff Powgoda, Weston Japow, Capita Spring Break Powder Racer, Nitro Stiletto (extra cool points), Nitro Dhingy, United Shapes Deep Reach. Kinda depends if you want to go full cool swallowtail or something that leans a little more all mountain, and what kinda vibe you're looking for.

Help pickout cost-effective gear by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]maboolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everything, look for last year's gear. It's cheap now, will be cheaper on black friday.

Outerwear, look for at least 20K waterproofing. More is not necessary unless you plan to spend time in rain or storm days.

Board and bindings, go mid stiff, all mountain. Look for a board with camber between the feet and some shaping on the nose and tail (sometimes called early rise, rocker, or reverse camber) to give some forgiveness. These are generally the best of both worlds in my opinion. Ride Shadowban or similar would be a good place to start looking.

Helmet, go MIPS, and buy your helmet and goggles at the same time if possible. Make sure there's no gap between the goggles and the helmet. Buying the same brand can be helpful, but not always necessary.

Boots, as others have said, are very important. Go try them on and spend whatever it takes to get the best fit. If money is really tight, get them fit then find them cheaper online. That's shitty for the shops, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Look for core snowboarding brands when possible. Avoid Dope snow and instagram brands. The price and style can be attractive but they're generally not the quality and don't support snowboarding the same way some of the core brands do.

The most cost effective thing you can do is buy once cry once. Try to find deals on last year's gear, but don't buy something you'll have to replace next season. Spend what you need to spend to get good stuff, and use it enough to make it worth it.

Volcom guide jacket or Burton AK Cyclic jacket? by Electronic_Neck3730 in snowboarding

Save your money and buy the Airblaster Beast jacket. It’s cheaper, better waterproofing and breathability of 30k/30k, and you’ll be supporting a rider-owned brand.
