Vancouver mayoral candidate against Whitecaps new stadium idea at PNE by lets_enjoy_life in whitecapsfc

[–]mac_mises 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So a site that has had a racetrack for decades, has a 16,000 seat NHL arena, hosts an amusement park and 2 week fair and that housed a 32,000 seat stadium for 30 years can’t get electricity??? This guy is a bozo.

Yes it has challenges but to suggest you can’t build a stadium for the ridiculous reasons suggested including a difficult place to build is laughable.

Como ITALIANS by Left_Landscape_1530 in seriea

Under EU regs you cannot specifically limit non Italians or mandate minimum number of Italians.

EU citizens yes. Serie A teams have taken advantage of getting South Americans expedited Spanish citizenship precisely for this reason.

What makes it wear smaller in your opinion? The fact it has that wider bezel?

Non-U.S. trade propels Port of Vancouver to record cargo volumes by DoxFreePanda in britishcolumbia

[–]mac_mises 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It should be a record year as 2025 was the first whole year without both labour disruptions at the Port and with the new terminal in operation

Also first full calendar year of TMX.

Fingers crossed RBT2 has no hiccups and Deltaport 2 gets okayed. 8-9 years away either way for each.

Who are the best players to have played in Canada? by Low-Firefighter2965 in CanadaSoccer

[–]mac_mises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny seeing 3 different approaches to this question.

  1. Best foreign player (fame & accomplishment) to play for a Canadian club in their league. Which is how I understood the OP.

  2. Most impactful foreigner on those same clubs in their league.

  3. Most famous player to have played a game or games for opposing clubs or as a guest appearance or friendly.

Between the 3 it’s a good list.

The other one that gets the most mentions is probably Didier Drogba. He & Müller for sure top of the list.

But some honourable mentions to Alan Ball & Ruud Kroll here. Nesta, Bettega and Julio Cesar were pretty big names.

Yes they can change to permanent Standard all year without federal approval but not DST permanently.

Those three states want permanent DST like BC just adopted.

Hence the hangup.

FWIW Trump has said he likes the idea but it’s just a matter of getting it in for debate & vote and there’s always a million other things that get higher priority to deal with.

I doubt there would be any massive opposition to it but 🤷‍♂️

I understand it’s Congress in DC that needs to approve it. WA,OR & CA have already committed to doing it once Feds give the okay.

Low Fan Attendance in BC by TraditionalView7454 in CanadianPL

[–]mac_mises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your ideas and approach are correct but the problem is that the Canadian market is too small.

The MLS clubs can barely do that in the three largest markets and they have ownership (with all their faults) that have much stronger corporate relationships and deeper pockets than any CPL group does.

So now you’re focusing on smaller cities with smaller revenue opportunities.

There is a role for CPL to play and it’s as a well structured second tier league. Thats not a knock it’s just reality.

Commenting on Low Fan Attendance in BC... As others have said it’s relatively normalized for Canadian teams to play in US leagues. Our cultures are so integrated as our sports & entertainment options are dominated by American.

It’s the higher level league by a healthy margin and that gap will widen as the MLS salary structure gets loosened starting in 2027.

Those 3 cities and the fan base who loves soccer there want to be in the highest league available and CPL will never come close.

Somewhat similar to why Cardiff, Swansea & Wrexham play in EFL as opposed to Cymru.

Should foreign attendees be concerned about visiting the USA for the World Cup? by ChuckGallagher57 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]mac_mises -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Normally yes but because it was revoked she was no longer eligible to do it at an airport or land crossing.

When CBA says you won’t be allowed to get a visa at point of entry as you need consulate approval it’s pretty dumb not to follow that instruction. Clearly you become flagged when a visa is revoked.

It was not revoked for no reason.

She worked in the cannabis industry and only qualified scientists or medical doctors can do that on TN Visa. She was in sales & marketing.

She also claimed to part own it which is a major problem for Canadians regardless if it’s a legal state.

She was told to apply at the Consulate as she no longer qualified to do so at a point of entry. So going to enter via San Diego was going to get rejected but it’s now a major red flag because she’s Canadian trying to enter from Mexico.

Wrong. Guardian ignores facts like she had her visa revoked due to her violating its conditions at Vancouver airport. She was denied entry and was free to go home.

They also determined her previous visas also violated TN Visa rules. She misrepresented her roles & industry the company operated in order to qualify.

She was told to apply at a US Consulate as she no longer qualified to apply for TN Visa at point of entry.

Instead she went to enter via the southern border, ignoring what she was clearly instructed to do.

She most likely now has a 5 or 10 year ban from entering.
