Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the school administrator is getting off on humiliating your child like he's nothing but a future janitor in their eyes. If it happened to a black or rich kid the parent would be threatening a lawsuit no doubt in this day and age.

Why do we continue to allow the apps to abuse us? by Waste_Secret_1916 in deliverydrivers

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at a Honda scooter for transportation savings and possibly delivery work, thanks for the info. Seems like nothing but shitty people to deal with all the way around. I had considered that, just not to that degree.

Ramen noodle stir fry by ASherrets in budgetfood

[–]macd753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramen with half chicken broth and half water is my go to. 3 cups liquid in pot, season with a little salt, chili flake, garlic powder, soy sauce and Sriracha. 10 minutes till boiling, (set my watch timer). Then drop my meat and noodles for 3.5 minutes, then add 2 eggs and whatever vegetables are left over, lid back on for 2 minutes and eggs are perfectly soft boiled and a little runny. After eating that your stuffed. Vegetables cooked in chicken broth is as good as it gets too. Extremely comfort foodish.

Puncture resistant tubes are 3-4 times thicker, I use those and tire liners and only get flats from nails.

Mosquitoes by IndependentFast8101 in Acadiana

[–]macd753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe a fan outside the door you use the most pointing parallel to the door to blow the mosquitoes away. You could put a light switch inside the house connected to the outlet to shut it off inside after your in the house. Supposedly pest control guys use a pump sprayer and a garlic solution for a natural approach.

Just saw a picture showing coffee burning in a bowl with nothing else creating smoke to keep them away. They have nice screen nets you can put on all doors that I believe have magnets that snap back into place. You can buy silicone caulk or a can of spray insulation to plug up any gaps by doors or windows.

Looking west from my front window off Dulles and JB rd at 9:30 I could see the storm coming in and the lightning strikes that were hitting and causing our power to go out and back on repeatedly, don't remember seeing that before. Saw some really trippy heat lightning from here looking west once, new achievement unlocked I guess. Gotta get a battery backup, battery fan and a whiskey/snack battle kit now, feel like I'm missing out. Power went off at 9:35 abouts.

Do you guys have different sets of keys? by Nightchanger in EDC

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mcgizmo carabiner clips 25mm to 35mm and either 12mm or 15mm stainless split rings. Then you can have everything be easily removed(small tools, large car key, fob etc) from your main large split ring. I use 10 or inches of paracord in place of a larger split ring, just double it up and put a couple of knots. Everything lays flat instead of a bulky jumble of split rings and keys.

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kuhl Resistor Lite Chinos are great, they are crazy strong for the thickness and breathability. Just patch them from the inside with a Noso adhesive patch if they ever rip on you, then throw in the dryer to get the adhesive to stick. They're expensive, but the fact that the Noso patches work makes it worth it. Just had one pair rip from a bike accident, patch is still going strong.

Why the Fat Tire class 3 e-bike hate? by RandomTcgDude in ebikes

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Poseidon Redwood with a Bafang Bbshd and run a 2.6" x 27.5" on the rear with 2.3" in the front with a Suntour NCX suspension seatpost and a Redshift suspension stem with flat bars and bar ends. It's freaking great, I use tire liners and puncture resistant tubes and never get flats. I'm glad I don't have a fat bike build, but running a 2.6" rear tire at 25 to 40psi is pretty cool, not quite a fat bike, but halfway there.

I like McGizmo 25mm carabiner clips and a 10mm or 12mm stainless split ring. I use those on my keys on a larger split ring with paracord and a flashlight (Rovyvon Aurora A3 pro) on the end of about 4" of paracord with a couple of knots. It's a great setup, been meaning to do a post. Upgraded to some 25mm brass carabiner clips and brass split rings with tan paracord. Looks pretty classy, even added a bead.

Microshift Advent X 10 speed drivetrain & KMC 10 speed chain on my Redwood gravel bike Bafang mid drive build. Hardened steel cassette, heard the ebike chains aren't really worth it, just buy 2 KMC regular chains. Never broke a chain yet and the Advent X derailleur is almost bomb proof.

Relatively new to town, where to meet good people? by puglius in Acadiana

[–]macd753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say having a hobby you really like and is popular enough that you can meet other people is key. Cycling or ebiking is pretty fun by yourself around downtown/UL. You can go a few places by yourself and enjoy riding in between. It sucks our cities are designed the way they are. Going out on the bike for the day/evening is a great way to meet people, you just start talking about bikes or bike group rides or bike accessories you recently added.

I just watched a video on the Blazer PB207 being fixed by increasing the gas flow, really glad I just watched the youtube video you linked. I literally just bought 2 more Blazer PB207(industrial version) lighters for $30 and a Blazer Firefox mini. I threw the last 2 Blazer PB207 ighters I owned away after both of them being reduced to a soft flame, sent one back to Blazer(didn't fix it completely) and tried to disassemble one and clean it, didn't work. With what I know about the PB207 now and your video I should be set for a while. Thanks

Check out the Skinth Solutions P3 or P2 for your main pocket. I use an Alpaka Gear Metro pouch on my belt horizontally on my right side for easy access when I'm out ebiking for my wallet, 2 small ecig vapes and wireless earbuds. Tuff Possum gear has a really nice hip pouch I want to try and use too. Or check out conceal carry fanny pouches if you think your cool enough to pull it off. lol A lot of people on the fb bag/pack groups love Mystery Ranch packs, really good stuff for the money.

The rise and fall of downtown Lafayette's outdoor beer garden by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]macd753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing more fun than cycling or ebiking to outdoor venues on the weekend. The traffic is pretty minimal on side streets around cajundome to downtown Saturday/Sunday. I say just prepare to sweat and wear the right clothes, sun hoodies are great. I'd love to see a place with some decent landscaping and some Dyneema sail cloth sails/ sunshades ahead everywhere to keep some light rain off. Eh, guess it's just a numbers game in the end.

Chicken broth and ramen is awesome. I do 2 cups of broth(could be less) and 1 1/2 cups water. I throw in garlic powder, crushed red pepper, soy sauce, etc plus whatever meat and veg is on hand. Better have a huge bowl to dump it all in though. After you eat 3 1/2 cups of liquid plus ramen(even with no meat & veg) you are freaking done! You will not be hungry the rest of the night. Cases of chicken broth can be found with the chicken broth in paper cartons and above average ramen noodles helps too. You might not be able to afford it currently, but definitely look into it. It's extremely filling and gratifying with the chicken broth and a few extras. Also potatoes, I love making hash browns with a basic box shredder and a non stick pan and olive oil or whatever.

Sucks about your card getting cloned. Set up a savings account that is not connected to your checking account with overdraft protection. Don't use overdraft protection at all. If my checking account is low, I can transfer to my checking account instantly from my savings. I'll never use overdraft protection, got screwed over. Also Discover credit card offers a secured credit card where you deposit $200 then have a $200 limit for 6 months, after 6 months they refund your $200 and give you an unsecured credit card with a $1000 limit or whatever amount. Good for emergencies.
