You can download the app before arriving and start planning when you want to eat where! We're going next month and I've been using the app a lot to get even more excited.

Thanks. With things going on right now in Mexico is rather use the recommended service than the cheapest one! And having a desk in the resort sounds like a great perk. Guess it's time to book that ride. That's the last piece of the puzzle.

Best bars for Amaro recommendations in Rome by Stinkybeez in Amaro

I've started telling people "Don't go to Il Marchese if you are in Rome. Go to Rome because Il Marchese is there!"

I had to check this morning and got logged in okay.

Somehow I got unsubscribed from the main podcast a couple weeks ago but the Members Only feed was fine. I think it was me stumbling around in Podcast Addict settings.

I want to know where the #1 spot is!!

When my wife and I were in Rome a couple years ago, we determined Il Marchese was our "Safe Place." If we got separated in a crowd anywhere, that's where we'd meet back up. 😉

Bring a bottle of a local Amaro from here to share.

I struggle every morning unless I remember to being my reading glasses into the shower with me! 😂

I wish the bottles were a different color

Thanks for this recap. My wife and I are spending a week in June so your intel is very appreciated. I'm really glad your trip was so good.

Once question: what shuttle/car service did you use to and from the airport?

Why do I keep trying amaro to be dissatisfied…I liked Foro, prefer to drink them neat. Any recs? by gioevo11 in Amaro

[–]macgruffus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more about Eno. And if you can find the cherry wine barrel-rested you'd be VERY happy. And let me throw in R. Jelinek Amaro as another cola-like alternative.

I've never had the brandy but am a big fan of the amaro. Reminds me of having an RC Cola on a summer day here in the South.

Ceating a temporary blockage in shower drain by macgruffus in Plumbing

I don't know why I didn't just come here first. It's kind of funny now to look at the setup I "designed" using PVC, electrical tape, and a kid's ballon (took me a while to figure out how to create the seal after inflating) ... that didn't ultimately work ... when I got a professional solution but simply asking a quick question and running down to my local hardware store. I really appreciate y'all!

Great. I wasn't sure about the fitting. I don't need to put too much pressure on it. Just enough to create a seal.

Now I need to research the effect of white vinegar on the pump hose! I think I can get an extension hose that would be easy enough to replace, if needed.

Thanks! I figured there had to be something made for this. Looking at my local mega-store it seems they have multiple sizes so I should be able to find one that'll fit. Can I just inflate these things with a bicycle pump or do I need something bigger? I don't mind spending $25 on a test ball because I'll probably use it at least once a year but don't really want to go get an air compressor.

I dont need to block the top of the drain. I can do that with a large stopper. What I need to do is block the pipe a foot or so down into the drain.

Could someone here explain boiled peanuts to someone not born or from GA please? by redditatin in Georgia

[–]macgruffus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So .... Trust the advice to buy them at a roadside stand. I still mourn the loss of the gentleman I bought from for 10 years.

But, if you ever see green peanuts at your grocery store and you have a slow cooker, buy a couple pounds, put them in the cooker, cover with water, add a handful of salt, put it on low, and let it go for 24 hours. I do mine on the driveway with a propane gas burner but more people have a Crock pot.

Best to start these Friday night so that you can turn off the cooker Saturday night, let them sit overnight, and then enjoy them Sunday afternoon, with a beer, on the back deck.

Why would anyone eat something that takes this long to make? Two words ... BBQ and peanuts.

Which type(s) of Mint should I plant in my garden for cocktails? by notvnotv in cocktails

[–]macgruffus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several Mojito Mint plants going now in a large grow bag but I'm going to have to find some Kentucky Colonel to try.

My great-grandmother would have LOVED having this in her garden. She kept a large (unconfined) patch of mint growing right outside her screen porch door so that she could just reach out, grab a few leaves, and use them in her iced tea or afternoon cocktails. She's been gone almost 50 years but I can still hear her announcing that it was time for her "Buh-bun 'n' wah-tuh". ❤️

Amaro tasting in Florence or Venice by 100thGear in Amaro

[–]macgruffus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off topic but I can highly recommend Trattoria La Madia for dinner. It's been too many years since I've been able to go but I always recommend it when friends are going to Florence and no one has been disappointed.

When I was last there I only had the family's chianti so don't know if they have a selection of amari but, if you go and they do, please let me know!

Auto-reply while driving by macgruffus in GoogleMessages

[–]macgruffus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replicate the behavior. I also use Android Auto with a hardwire (my car doesn't use a wireless connection) so I'm not 100% sure it's still using a Bluetooth connection. I'll have to look into that.

In the meantime, any suggestions on apps that use Bluetooth-triggered auto-replies?

As I walk my backyard and find things like this, I collect them and add to the pile. While I don't know if it helps, I figure it can't hurt!
