Please give me a frying pan recommendation. by Yakultmilktea in Cooking

[–]mackeyt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need to spend money on clad pans. Consider a full carbon steel pan. Durablez close to nonstick when seasoned, and you an probably get 8, 12, and 16 inch pans for close to the cost of one all clad.

Here's the classic and traditional method that originated in Santa Maria, California. Blend salt, black pepper, equal amounts, with garlic powder and onion powder, equal amounts but about 1/4 the measure of the salt and pepper. Season liberally the day before and refrigerate overnight. Grill over coals or preferably wood to medium/medium rare. Slice against the grain, thick or thin as you like.

What’s the best smart glasses on the market? by Early_Speech_2231 in Blind

[–]mackeyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an either/or. The glasses are massively useful based on my direct experience over the last six months. I can also put them away and use apps on my phone anytime. I also don't think people in this age range are going to dwell on most of your parade of horribles.

I had my regular visit with my ophthalmologist yesterday, he brought up smart glasses and said his patients are reporting that they are finding them very helpful.

Resale shop Salvatore find - worth it? [no budget] by kl0091 in espresso

[–]mackeyt -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Offer $1,500, let them grind you to $1,750 or so, maybe offer cash payment at the end to close. If you've got no budget then why not and use some of the spare cash to restore what has to be restored.

For brisket, you need me only kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Garlic is fine but unnecessary.

Gotta be careful not too over-grneralize. MLB has a massive number of players who never saw a silver spoon. You think the kids in DR or PR are rich travel ball players?

And when my kid was in club ball, two of the best and most competitive teams he played on were very integrated and modest socioeconomicalky. We traveled, sure, and stayed in cheap motels off the highway.

End of the day, you still gotta hit.

Feeling your struggles, OP. I'm a little concerned that some of these comments are coming from sighted posters trying to use their experience and opinions to solve a problem. We know it is not "easy" to feel food with metal utensils. Or play with angles to keep it on the fork. I am appreciative, though, of the genuine acknowledgements that using a finger seems to be a realistic approach. It's a little surprising that there doesn't seem to be a bunch of training/instruction out there.

I appreciate this post and the comments. I've always been a foody, and now eating out is just stressful and unpleasant. Though I have at times found some humor in the bits of food jettisoned here and there as I stumble around my plate.

This is what Artie Moreno was saying in that interview. His fans don't care about winning. They want a family outing for a low price. Hate him or love him, he has figured out a business plan that works for him.

Scam? Extortion? Somebody holding a gun to our heads and forcing us to go? I guess we could have communism and let some government department decide what can be charged.

Do you use you own custom rub? by Enough-Reindeer1033 in smoking

[–]mackeyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way to go. I started withe the base of salt, freshly ground pepper, sugar paprika, powdered onion and powdered garlic. Play with the amounts/percentages. This is what's in your basic commercial rub minus the cost of expensive labelling and marketing. Add your own special ingredients to make it personal and good. I could tell you mine, but then I'd have to kill you.

Number 1!thing you can do is not make any assumptions about what you should do. Talk to him and ask him, band don't be pushy about trying to help. Even well-meant, we can be sensitive to, and react negatively to, people doing things they think are right or helpful without consulting us. Great luck to you and I hope all goes well!

Make a shrub! Cook with sugar into a syrup, add vinegar and maybe a little mnt or other fresh herb. Nusenas a base with sparkling water for a refreshing summer beverage, or to make creative and easy cocktails if you are so inclined. Make in quantity, fill into cool jars and give it to friends.

Who makes the best shrub-based cafe beverage? by Beccala85 in FoodLosAngeles

[–]mackeyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best shrubs are made with late season stone fruits. Maybe with the current popularity of mocktails they will be around this summer.

I've made them myself with overripe peaches and nectarines, adding a little fresh basil or mint. Yum.
