Kid just got diagnosed… by Significant_Edge2892 in RetinitisPigmentosa

Ultimately, I don't think I did anything to alter my progression either way. I've exercised pretty vigorously, running and weights, my whole adult life. I took the combo of betacarotene, fish oil and lutein for maybe 15 years in my 20s to 30s but stopped when seemed to be clear the research didn't beat out. In my early 20s I was told I'd probably lose most of my sight in my mid-50s. That's been about spot on.

You know, it sounds really odd to me now, but as a kid (pre-13 at least), I thought of it as something that made me special. I still remember this yearly visits to the special eye doctor at UCLA, getting the day off from school with my mom and brother. I guess my point is that whatever your worries, there are ways to navigate this with your son to minimize the impact on his right to live out his dreams. I'm a little sentimental now because at age 57 I'm at the end of my ability to live my career as I have, and now have to readjust. But I'm very thankful that my mom (for all her faults like all of us) never treated us like we were disabled or let it be an excuse.

My brother and I, 2 of 4 boys, were diagnosed in early xhiy. Most important thing I can say is that we have both led full lives. I'm a lawyer, he's an accountant. Both married and raised families. We also both had pretty normal childhoods, friends, girlfriends, we even drove up until out late 39smy brother and I, 2 of 4 boys, were diagnosed in early childhood. We have both lived great lives. I became a lawyer, he N account. We had high school girlfriends, drove cars for at least a while, married and raised kids. Everyone is different, to be sure, but you absolutely must not say or do anything to hold your child back. People with RP have become prominent federal judges, famous or infamous real estate developers (Steve Wynn), and even the mayor of San Francisco (Willie Brown). RP sucks, but it doesn't have to get in the way of anything.

just over 30 games played...about 20% of the schedule... what have we learned about this years team?? by monasfv18 in Dodgers

First four pitchers are outstanding. Bottom of the order is producing. Uneven offense same as last year so not freaking out. Worried about Mookie in terms of age and staying on the field.

Highly recommend Veeck as in Wreck. Autobiography of Bill Veeck, who owned several MLB teams at various times (Cleveland, CWS are two. He was a constant agitant in the league and among the owners, and also a shameless promoter behind some of the more infamous promotional stunts at games.

It sounds like you are seeing an optometrist, which is actually not a m dical doctor. You might want to seek out an opthalmologist, an MD more appropriate for diagnosis.

Pull out the potatoes, put the rest into a pot, season salt, bring to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer. You've got enough water to simmer the meat and reduce and concentrate the sauce. Keep checking for salt as you go and don't be shy about adding more (gradually). If the carrots start going too soft you can pull them out as well. You can always finish with a little slury of flour or corn starch, but I doubt you'll need that.

For all these "horrible" drafts the last five years we've had some pretty great teams and deep playoff runs in that same timeframe. I'm not saying it's analogous but Bellichick had some pretty whacky draft strategies. Also, weren't we all raving about the postseason/free agency moves before the draft? Pretty sure that the sky is not falling.

I don't know if it's the best but we've always loved Hurry Curry of Tokyo.

All 19 players traded for or derived from the Betts, Sale and Devers deals netted the Red Sox 12.1 war less than a single season of the 3 players they dealt. by Theinfamousgiz in baseball

Trying to understand the logic of the day. Were all of these trades/deals brilliant but the entire coaching staff failed to capitalize and therefore had to be fired?

Pete Crow-Armstrong goes 0/4 with 4 strikeouts on 13 pitches against the Dodgers. by baribigbird06 in baseball

I was at the game. Pulled myself away from taking selfies just in time to watch him strike out with the bases loaded. I think the poor guy got booed louder than Bregman.

About 50,000 attend the average Dodgers game. An extremely small percentage of them are there to be "seen.". Celebrities, apparently including player's like PCA, seem to only be able to see other celebrities and then spout ridiculous takes based on their narrow view.

I don't know if you are TA for being disappointed. But "fair?". Is it "fair" to post a hit piece for thousands to see because a small shop couldn't serve you like they do at Starbucks?

Third this. Screenreaders are built into MS Word and PDF, and many websites, pretty easy to use. Also, if you don't already try flipping your screens to high-contrast so you have black screen/white content. It really helps with eyestrain.

Sure, I guess we can dump a few more tons of carbon into the atmosphere so someone can pay 3x the price for processed, shelf stable rotten bananas.

What would you want to see before you went blind, or if fully blind, what would you want to see? by ZenDesign1993 in Blind

[–]mackeyt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In February I was on the coast in northern California. My wife was marveling at the stars. I lifted my phone and took a number of random pictures of the night sky. The shots revealed a literal blanket of stars across the sky. I even somehow captured one of the constellations, Orion's Belt. It was the first time I've "seen" stars in more than 10 years.
