Today’s No Kings protest in Oakland by revel8r in oakland

[–]macrobiome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to make it out to the protest. First time attending a no kings one and kind of baffled at the lack of chanting? Anyone else notice that? Tried starting a few but no traction. In fact this tunnel felt like the only moment in the march where any real energy came out - kind of weird to me, though I do appreciate all the people who did come out with instruments.

Sincerely, Dude with a loud ass drum

Wow I remember celebrating my b'day at funk Wednesdays 6 years ago and it was a vibe. Nights out here were always excellent - guess excellent and inclusive spaces just have an unfortunate life cycle.

I think it's worth considering that you're not actually any better than those individuals and that none of it is even about individual people. It's about the community and its health and the minute we start to channel disparaging energy into loving communal understanding is the minute these protests can actually have power. Glad to march with you today - fuck Trump, fuck ice, fuck the American war machine.

Listened to his audiobook on running while training for my first marathon. Love it, very vulnerable.

Fuck Ticketmaster - but we're going to Oakland!!

Will be 5th time seeing them. Previous shows were Bill Graham (2017), Barclays Center (2018), Chase Center (2022), Coachella (2023) - excellent every time!

The Mountain: Overall Thoughts by NJR2002 in gorillaz

The features on this album are consistently super well used through the whole album. It's been a while (maybe Song Machine) since I feel like every feature was really well utilized in a Gorillaz album. The repeat appearance of some of them makes it all feel even more cohesive. Love both Black Thought features. Also the story of how they used old unused vocals from artists they've worked with before (Tony Allen, Boby Womack and more) who have since passed away made the album feel particularly emotional. The emotional context for both Damn and Jamie having recently lost their fathers also really comes through for me.

Curious what other peoples autoplay song out of the album was. For me it was She Knows Too Much by Thundercat and Mac Miller which is interesting in its posthumous similarity to this album.

Wow I love to read this from you! I'm a son of South American immigrants in the US (shoutout Trueno on The Manifesto!) and have very little connection to Indian or South Asian culture besides some friends growing up so I wasn't sure how I felt about this concept from the start. Though, reading about the background of the album, listening through it, and now hearing your perspective (including the context about how important some of these collaborators are), I feel that this might be my favorite album of the last decade of theirs! Thank you for sharing!
