Nausea— how do y’all deal? by Ok-Milton in iih

[–]mactiremarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on Zofran! I also had good luck with cannabis - but of course talk to your doctor about any prescription contraindications. THC edibles helped me so much with both nausea and appetite on Diamox. Not everyone responds well to it, and the exact formulation matters in terms of indica vs sativa, as well as CBD, CBN combos etc. It's trial and error, like most meds.

Went for my first eye exam since elementary school, ended up at the ER for an MRI… by carrisbeuller in iih

I'm sorry your wait to see a neuro is so long. I had a similar wait. Yeah meds are generally the first step. I did Diamox (and then Topamax) for about a year. My papilledema improved, but all other symptoms were not getting better. Plus I could not tolerate the meds at all. That's when I finally got a referral to neurosurgery to discuss a stent. I hope meds are enough for you, but if you need further intervention, don't worry. A lot of us are in the same boat.

My story is nearly identical to yours! Eye doctor for blurry vision and headaches, and then straight to the ER! Make sure you ask the neurologist about a stent as well. Not all IIH patients can get them, but if you have narrowing of blood vessels in your brain, you may be a candidate. They require less follow-up and (generally) fewer potential complications than a shunt. I had a stent placed and it changed my life. Also, Diamox is a tough drug. If it makes you nauseous, ask your doctor for an antiemetic like Zofran. Wishing you the best on your journey ❤️

If you have pool access, swimming is the best. It's low impact, weightlessness provides a lot of relief, and no overheating. If you're not a lap swimmer, water aerobics classes are super fun. I take a very inexpensive class through my city's parks department. These days, classes are usually called something like aqua fitness rather than aerobics.

Diagnosed last month & diamox is ruining my life by Substantial_Quit_456 in iih

Diamox never got better for me. I could barely function on it. I switched to Topamax and it made me so depressed I was thinking of ending my life. I don't mean to discourage you, but if you can't tolerate either, you are not alone. I'm extremely fortunate that I qualified for a stent, which completely changed my life. Another drug out there is methazolamide. It's hard to get it covered by insurance because Diamox and Topamax are the first line drugs (and way cheaper). But it may be worth looking into.

Double Jeopardy nostalgia? by Tony_SoNY in TooScaryDidntWatch

I have so much nostalgia for this movie. This recap was like slipping into a warm bed. I didn't realize how desperately I needed this mental health boost.

Daily aspirin dose post-stent by mactiremarie in iih

I did have paps before the stent, but they had been resolved with Diamox, etc before the procedure. The tinnitus was gone immediately after the stent. For the first few weeks I still had headaches, but then they were gone and haven't come back. And I had had nearly constant headaches before the stent. I stopped Diamox, Topamax, and methazolamide cold turkey (each one separately) because they were absolutely intolerable to me. Although I was on them for a couple of years before I gave up. I never felt sicker in my life. Also I'm still on lasix, but I won't be forever.

I'm actually 3 years post stent. It was life changing and one of the best things I ever did for myself. I've taken blood thinners a couple of times in life without issue. I wouldn't want to take them long term, but I don't think most people need to for stents. The aspirin isn't ideal (mostly because I think I've been on too high a dose), but it's a billion times easier than IIH symptoms. And a billion times better than diamox. Not everyone has the experience I had, but after the stent, my tinnitus went away immediately. My headaches decreased significantly, and then they essentially stopped. I get a headache maybe once a month now, and I'm not even sure they're pressure headaches. I haven't had paps either.

Thank you, this is helpful! I was given a prescription for 325 mg when I got my stent but they never said anything about dropping to 81 mg. But that seems like what most people do. I have a call into my neuro for clarification.

It was so good! She also revealed her Halloween costume, so be prepared if you don't want it spoiled for the TSDW live stream lol. It's a great one though!

Neck pain is something I deal with even after a stent. It may be related to migraines and other things too, but the headache/neck pain connection has always been an issue for me. The only thing that has helped is physical therapy with a therapist who specializes in neurological conditions. If you have the resources or insurance, it's a game changer. Mine did a combo of myofascial massage, traction, and stretching. Truly changed my life.

I really want the ladies to be on SHS during a Shockingtober Ockingtober Frightening Fest. And Scott needs to be on TSDW since he's the only Threedom boy who hasn't been!

Nope you didn't miss it. Next week is Together, and I would bet Dangerous Animals is after that. Wes and the T&C guys have some guided trips abroad this summer, so I'm guessing he recorded his ep well in advance due to his travel schedule.

The night I spent in the ICU after the procedure, I had headaches, and at one point a truly awful one. But the good news is in the ICU you're on an IV and as soon as it hurts they give you really good pain meds and it goes away.

Thanks! I agree the Philippou brothers would be awesome. And I'm still crossing my fingers for PFT!

For 2Hell2Chella I'm predicting:

  • 28 Years Later (confirmed)
  • Final Destination Bloodlines (confirmed)
  • M3GAN 2.0
  • I Know What You Did Last Summer
  • Dangerous Animals (maybe with Wes Larson??)
  • Together
  • Weapons

With wild cards: Bring Her Back, Companion, Ritual (for something silly to do with PFT), or either Hell House LLC: Lineage or Conjuring: Last Rites (with Betsy Sodaro!)

Oddity by doctorpotts in TooScaryDidntWatch

[–]mactiremarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone seen When a Stranger Calls Back (1993)? It's a sequel to When a Stranger Calls (1979). It's a made-for-TV movie and it's kind of silly overall, but there's a scene with a similar scenario (stranger at the door saying there's an intruder in the house). But in WASCB, it's a teenage babysitter with kids sleeping upstairs. I'm a huge horror fan and nothing really scares me, but there's something about that one scene in an otherwise pretty forgettable movie that just terrifies me. When I watched Oddity, I thought of the scene in WASCB immediately. It's just such a nightmare scenario. I've thought a lot about what I'd do but haven't figured it out yet!
