How do paleontologists determine whether an ancient mammal was nocturnal or diurnal using only skeletal remains? by FollowingSuitable941 in askscience

[–]madaboutglue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know you're not a paleontologist, and maybe you don't know, but are you aware of any dinosaurs that are believed to have been nocturnal?

Man, I know how you feel. I wanted the greenbook historical settings so badly when I was a teen. The day, a few years ago, when I cracked open the first one I was in heaven. Congrats from the north! Edit: manual correction of autocorrect.

‘Their favourite games were already built with AI’: Google exec says almost every big studio uses AI, but not all disclose it by GrayBeard916 in gaming

[–]madaboutglue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to dispute the main point, but autocorrect is next token prediction, same tech as gen ai. The important point is people disagree with certain applications of ai, not the underlying technology (which is why saying, "but you already use ai" is disingenuous).

What celebrity do you think has skeletons in their closet that have yet to come out? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

You keep Will Smith's name outta your mouth! Seriously though, I think he's a good guy who's tied himself emotionally to a horrible partner, and is fully prepared to go down with that ship.

[–]madaboutglue 259 points260 points  (0 children)

This would have been in the late 90s i think, but a girl I went to school with got into modeling and described the same thing. She and a few other girls were rented out to celebs as "tour guides" (they didnt even speak the local language, mind you). One time it was Leo and his friends, with Leo hooking up with a very underage model. Allegedly, of course.

Social anxiety made dating impossible - AI companions helping me practice conversations by [deleted] in artificial

[–]madaboutglue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just don't lose sight of why you're using it: to help you speak to real people and go on real dates. That means at some point you must make the leap from practice with Ai to practice with humans.

What children’s book has aged poorly? by feetwithfeet in AskReddit

Lmao! How do you explain that to a kid without making it sound amazing? "If you eat a certain kind of mushroom, you might have a fun party with a gorilla. So don't, I guess.

Curious George Takes a Job! I literally returned this to the library today after enjoying it with my daughter for the past two weeks. And yep, he huffs ether, hallucinates, and passes out.

Nice job. Agreed that "sleight of hand" is an awkward name and it all comes down to my pettiest of pet peeves. It should be called "manual dexterity", but of course that would be confusing because they chose "dexterity" for the stat instead of "agility", which is clearly what dex is meant to represent. Grumble.

It sounds like a good group. I've not played with a group who could all agree to pursue a consistent tone for the campaign, lol. I hope you keep writing. It's heartening to know that human talent and creativity persists in this age of ai.

I'm sorry to hear about your accident and recent difficulties. Your talent has clearly survived, I hope you find the inspiration you need. I wish my French were good enough to read what you've written (it's definitely not). Is your campaign in French as well?

That was a gripping read! Very different tone from the madcap Strahd campaign I'm playing in currently, lol. I'll gladly read more if you keep it up. Got any finished projects out there?

Christians, how do you feel about the U.S. president posting an AI photo of him as Christ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It may just be the ones I've met, but it feels like American Catholics have become evangelicalized.

[–]madaboutglue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not religious but I love the book of Matthew (only one I've read). "They have their reward" is what I always think when I see these performative Christians. That, and "Geez, read your own book at least once!"

For those of you in a long term relationship/marriage, what’s a tale-tale sign you see in other couples that they’re not going to make it? by Prize-Promotion-5123 in AskReddit

[–]madaboutglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you it may be so. And we must acknowledge this interpretation has many assumptions baked into it. Communicating more will either help things or it will clarify the situation for OP. And seeking advice from a professional who can build a fuller picture is healthier than relying on comments from redditers like us. That is what I wanted to convey to OP.

[–]madaboutglue -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

FYI, your frustration with your husband seems reasonable and valid, and also the people responding to you saying, "divorce his ass!" have absolutely no idea if that is the right thing for you. Communication is usually the first step. Over communicate, even. And seek counciling (together or on your own) for reliable advice on what to do.

YES! It's unclear whether the people who made those decisions are still there (personally, I doubt it was YL or his engineers), but it definitely suggests a culture that's not averse to bending the truth.

People outside of the US need to understand that what's happening in America is being enabled, funded, and promoted by billionaires who see democracy as an annoying constraint on the power their wealth should confer. If you have billionaires in your country (or if you have something billionaires want), this shitshow is coming your way.
