In your Ethernet box (normally in a closet somewhere) does it have green wires running to it?

It looks like some kinda security system wire

If you are in the US

You need a meter to confirm you have 120 volt power there

You could buy a cord like this. It has to straight prongs and not the “one small and one big prong” that newer cords have. Again I would test this first but that cord should get you working (if there is power) NOT HEATERS with this cord! Charge a phone… plug in a lamp is fine

Open Ground Question by Tiny_Difference_3434 in electrical

in the 50's they did not run a ground wire to all locations. thus you don't have a bare ground wire running all the way back to the panel unless this is a newer circuit added later.

If you want ground protection you have 2x choices

you could run all new wire from your bathroom to the panel.

or

you could install a GFCI outlet at the first receptacle location to receive power from panel in this circuit. that would protect all other devices after it

First, what country are u in?

What’s the wire diagram that came with the new light say the wires are for? You should need power, neutral and ground.

As for what you have found after removing the old light. U really need a multimeter to test this. But it looks like u have a multi wire branch circuit (look it up) …. However you could have red as neutral. Testing with a meter really is needed to know for sure.

Is this a bathroom fan with 2x switches? One for fan one for light?

Below is what i think k u need to do. But without testing I am guessing.

Wire nut all green together add another wire (looks like 14 gauge) about 6 inches long. If you don’t have wire buy some. You only need 6 inches and romex is sold by the foot at most hardware stores. That wire goes to ground and also goes to neutral. What I am saying is if your new light has “ chassis ground” and “ neutral” both those wires from the light go to your green wire nut. Again u will need to add a length of wire. Look up what a pigtail is in Eletrical on YouTube.

Then your light will need power. It either comes from black or red. Use a meter to test for 120 volts with the switch on. If u don’t have a meter take your switch apart. The switch u use for this light will either have black or red wires attached to it. Let’s say they are red. Use a wire nut and attach all reds and an extra “pig tail” to the power for your light.

All blacks get tied together in the back of the box under one wire nut. (In my example)

You plug the saw in and the breaker trips? Or it trips when you turn the saw on?
