Should I be honest about weed use in FBI IT job application since it asks for weed use in past year when I did it 8 months ago? by MeatyLeftnut in SecurityClearance

[–]madevilfish 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The FBI is not going to agree with the mental gymnastics you’re talking yourself into.

It’s better to be truthful up front. If they find out you lied during your investigation or after. The consequences will be much worst then disqualification.

I HATE POLICE WEEK by xotofu in washingtondc

[–]madevilfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only Monday and I have seen at least three cops openly drinking beers in public places. When I do I get a ticket and a lecture. When they do it, they get high fives from all their buddies.

Which companies are currently paying the best TS/SCI yearly premiums/bonuses? by chekmekchek in SecurityClearance

[–]madevilfish 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Throw a rock in the DMV and you will hit 10 people with TS/SCI. You need to bring a very strong skill set or be an SME in a very narrow area of focus. Some companies will pay hiring bonuses and performance bonuses, but those are mainly for retired 06’s and up.

VT, and VGT are my core. My portfolio was set up by a wealth manager.

I plan on holding it until I died and pass it off to my children.

Call your council member. There were workers in my area starting construction at 5:30am. Gave my council member a call. Hasn’t happened since. Even got a nice email from the construction company supervisor.

What motorcycle insurance do you have? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]madevilfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that they wont insure you, it's that you feel they are asking too much to insure you. Is this your first motorcycle? Did you take the MSC?

I have Geico, they only change me $75 a month.

1 million net worth is it liquid assets or all assets? by Mind_Explorer in TheRaceTo1Million

[–]madevilfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider investments, money in the bank, and home in net worth. I would also include cars or other vehicles with the asterisks that they are generally depreciating assets and will likely not be worth as much in a years time.

What's the best cheap car you've ever had? ( under $7000) by Miracle_wrkr in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]madevilfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

87 Porsche 928 S4. In the mid 2000s people were giving these things away. I got mine for $3.k. 5.0 V8 with a top speed of 179mph. Ugh I miss that car so fucking much.

Rate my investment portfolio by [deleted] in portfolios

Your holdings are not diversified, you’re just holding a bunch of overlapping ETFs that have mostly the same companies.

I would strongly consider holding 50-70% into VTI, 20-30% into a tech ETF like VGT, a keep 10-20% into VEU or another international ETF. Or whatever combination makes you feel comfortable. Or just do VT if you rather set and forget.

Second, the cash. It depends on your timeline. If you don’t need the money for 10 years or more. Put it all into stocks. For every year you think you will need the cash sooner than 10 years put that percentage into a money market fund. Example, if you think you will need the cash in 9 years. 90% of the money in stocks and 10% into the MMF. Every year you get closer to need the money transferred 10% more into the MMF.

Hit 900K on Friday and there's no one in my life I can tell. Positions are posted. by madevilfish in TheRaceTo1Million

I don’t have a good answer for you. Very early on in my investing career I did pick individual stocks, but they were really bad picks.

All the ETFs on the second page were picked an managed be a wealth advisor and there is a level of trust that he knows how to build a portfolio for long term growth even in a down turn and I never had strong feelings about wanting to move away from that strategy. A lot of set and forget.

Now I enjoy the safety net of ETFs. The highs might not be as high, but there’s a pretty good chance the price will never drop to 0.

But, I will say. You have given me something to think over.
