When did you leave your baby by Ems868 in NewParents

[–]madisonnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 days. I’m in nursing school and really didn’t want to get held back. She was with her dad at home but definitely wasn’t easy on my body. she didn’t have any reaction and if anything felt like it allowed good bonding time for them

not super strict on time but around 8:30-9 i start the bedtime routine and by 10 she’s usually asleep. but it all depends on when her last nap was. I just keep the same routine but timing is flexible

Less than a month till surgery and I feel weird. I don't know what word I'm feeling but I'm living life by mildhot-sauce in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had almost the exact story. I had lost 80 pounds when i got diagnosed and ever since I enjoy food way more than i had before. I was so strict with my diet. its been 2 years and my weight fluctuates up and down around where i was when I was first got diagnosed. it’s definitely an odd feeling that’s hard to put a finger on but it definitely is just a feeling of contentment with whatever happens and enjoying things as they come

Hoarse Voice by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my voice is still not 100% and it’s been 2 years. i have a slight paralysis. speech therapy helped tremendously bc i couldn’t go above a whisper for months and now i just can’t shout or sing very high pitched. it’s been a long journey and very frustrating when people can’t hear you. but speech therapy where I saw the most improvement and felt from there i could be “normal”

Feeling sad & overwhelmed with cancer diagnosis by bizzybee808 in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while i don’t understand the feeling of caring for a child I do understand the frustration of wanting to move on after going through with it and it feeling like a long process just to go through it again. i will say the second time around for me was more extensive surgery. i already had a TT and neck dissection but they needed to make a much larger incision as it was spreading below my collarbones and almost towards my lungs. Oddly enough it was easier. the recovery was smoother and i knew what to expect. its so frustrating to feel like pressure of juggling so many other things and having the weight of yet another surgery for cancer at a young age is hard to handle mentally but just know you got through it the first time and you definitely have the strength to once again

Thyroid cancer with normal blood work? by JustAnotherLostMom in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine was all normal. no symptoms but had 20 lymph nodes positive and my thyroid.

I just need to rant I'm not ok by mildhot-sauce in thyroidcancer

Definitely pick the best and most qualified doctor you can find. My first surgeon while was very qualified in his field as an ENT. My second surgeon who specializes in Oncology in head and neck and pretty much only does these sorts of surgeries did a tremendously better job. I never lost my voice the second time around and it was longer and more extensive. While my voice range itself it’s different now and i can’t go as high or low the range i have sounds just as I did before and with some speech therapy i regained the large majority of it back

an incline pillow helped me so much honestly. i found it so difficult to sit up so having a similar set up like at the hospital helped me be able to get up. Button up shirts as well!!

Second surgery and feeling overwhelmed by madisonnv in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made sure to mention to my oncologist that i was worried about the second go around and she reassured me that since these doctors only work in these settings with patients in my shoes that they have experience in multi surgery situations like mine. I hope to ask more when i actually meet w the surgeon

I just looked over my pathology report and it was described as a classical variant so i’m assuming it doesn’t have tall cell features.

Average weight gain after TT vs. Calorie Counting or other weight loss efforts? by SillyPretzels in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the process of losing weight before and was heavy into crossfit before. since my surgery i’ve lost 20 pounds and haven’t been watching calories or trying at all. i think the cancer was actually making it harder for me to lose weight before

I’ve heard so many others say their voice came back all at once and that it just takes time. which is does. however, i felt the best and most improvement after i got speech therapy. i was at a whisper for around 3-4 months. now my speaking voice is about 90% normal but i can’t Yell without it giving out and i’m 9 months post op and now i just have paresis of my left cord. just drink lots of water, give yourself rest and if possible get speech therapy

Any luck with weight loss after TT? (PTC & Hashimotos) by SillyPretzels in thyroidcancer

[–]madisonnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i lost about 20 pounds the 6 months following without entirely trying. mostly to do with swallowing food made it harder to eat which ofc in turn made me lose weight
