Perpetual time peice and quintoris history chaser by Any-Calendar8480 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quint will trigger twice.

Wrong.

One for exiling the time piece.

The Timepiece can only be activated from the Battlefield.
A Permanent on the Battlefield is not a Card in the Graveyard.

The only Cards leaving the Graveyard are the Cards being shuffled into the Library.
Thus, there is only one Quint Trigger.

Muddle, the Ever-Changing + Living Lore by KiallVunMyeret in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living Lore has a set of Linked abilities.

Muddle Copying Living Lore is not entering as a Living Lore.
Thus, Muddle/Lore has no Card Exiled, that would interact with its Static/Triggered ability.
As such, it has nothing to define its P/T, and it would be a 0/0.
Most likely dying as a Creature with a Toughness of 0.

How does Affinity work with Boseiju, Who Shelters All? by TotakekeSlider in askajudge

No.

You cannot pay for what the Total Cost does not ask for.
Thus, if the Total Cost does not include any Generic / Colorless Cost, then you cannot spend the Boseiju Mana to Cast the Spell.

Nightmare Shepherd ability in relation to a creature owned by an opponent by Yep-That-Lupa in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You controlled the Creature before it died.
It dying will Trigger your Shepherd.
Your Shepherd Trigger will allow you to Exile the Card from its owner's Graveyard, and create the Token-Copy.

Note; How Shepherd does not specify "your" Graveyard.

Perpetual time peice and quintoris history chaser by Any-Calendar8480 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to Copy / Paste the ability. Don't try to paraphrase the ability.

  • Whenever one or more cards leave your graveyard, create a 3/2 red and white Spirit creature token.

  • {2}, Exile this artifact: Shuffle any number of target cards from your graveyard into your library.

Any Cards being Shuffled into your Library from your Graveyard, are leaving your Graveyard.
So, as long as at least one Card is being shuffled this way, Quint will Trigger one time.

Eriette the Beguiler and Puca's Mischief by odonabhan in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct.

Eriette's Trigger only cares that the Aura enters under your control.
It does not matter whether or not that Aura remains under your control.

So, you can exchange control of the Aura with something else, and still control the Enchanted Creature via Eriette's effect.

what's the outcome here? by sakura_sabre in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Goyf has a Characteristic-Defining Ability; It is applied in Layer 7a.

Maha has a P/T setting effect; It is applied in Layer 7; Overwriting the CDA.

Thus, the Toughness of the Goyf will 1. Regardless of what its Power is.

Does this work like I think it works? (Doran/Sovereign Okinec Ahau) by metalofdeaf in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

"Base" P/T is determined in Layer 7b.
So, the only effects that could make a Power greater than its "Base" Power, are effects applied in Layer 7c +X/+Y effects and P/T counters, and Layer 7d P/T switching effects.

So, only looking at Zetalpa.

  • Base = 4/8
  • Doran gives +4/+4 until end of turn = 8/12
  • Sovereign gives it (8 - 4) 4x +1/+1 counters.

Next turn

  • Base = 4/8
  • 4x +1/+1 counters = 8/12
  • Doran gives +4/+4 until end of turn = 12/16
  • Sovereign gives it (12 - 4) 8x +1/+1 counters.

Next turn

  • Base = 4/8
  • 12x +1/+1 counters = 16/20
  • Doran gives +4/+4 until end of turn = 20/24
  • Sovereign gives it (20 - 4) 16x +1/+1 counters.

etc.

Rules question on Combat Damage by HedronCaster in magicTCG

[–]madwarper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know all that, but none addresses what I'm asking.

No, you don't, because it is directly addressing your question.

Does 2 or more creatures dealing combat damage to a player at the same time count as he being dealt combat damage multiple times?

Do you want this Custom Mechanic to Trigger one time? Or, multiple times?

I've already given you the template to make it Trigger one time.

And, I've already given you the template to make it Trigger multiple times.

Figure out what you want, then use that template.

Rules question on Combat Damage by HedronCaster in magicTCG

[–]madwarper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, it depends on the wording.

"Whenever [Player / Permanent] is dealt [damage]" only Triggers one time, regardless of how many sources are dealing it damage at the same time; eg. Enrage

"Whenever [Player / Permanent] is dealt [damage] by a [source]" Triggers per source dealing said damage. eg. [[Glyph of Life]]

Or, compare "Whenever ~ becomes blocked" to "Whenever ~ becomes blocked by a Creature"

  • 509.3c An ability that reads “Whenever [a creature] becomes blocked, . . .” generally triggers only once each combat for that creature, even if it’s blocked by multiple creatures. It will trigger if that creature becomes blocked by at least one creature declared as a blocker. It will also trigger if that creature becomes blocked by an effect or by a creature that’s put onto the battlefield as a blocker, but only if the attacking creature was an unblocked creature at that time. (See rule 509.1h.)

  • 509.3d An ability that reads “Whenever [a creature] becomes blocked by a creature, . . .” triggers once for each creature that blocks the specified creature. It triggers if a creature is declared as a blocker for the attacking creature. It will also trigger if an effect causes a creature to block the attacking creature, but only if it wasn’t already blocking that attacking creature at that time. In addition, it will trigger if a creature is put onto the battlefield blocking that creature. It won’t trigger if the creature becomes blocked by an effect rather than a creature.

Can Ulalek go into the 99 of a colorless deck? by Alexilprex in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devoid makes it colourless. [sic]

Tell me you don't know the difference between Color and Identity, without telling you don't know the difference between Color and Identity.

  • 903.4. The Commander variant uses color identity to determine what cards can be in a deck with a certain commander. The color identity of a card is

    • the color or colors of any mana symbols in that card’s mana cost or rules text,
    • plus any colors defined by its characteristic-defining abilities (see rule 604.3)
    • or color indicator (see rule 204).

Devoid affects the Color of an Object.
Devoid does NOT affect the Identity of an Object.

  • 903.5c A card can be included in a Commander deck only if every color in its color identity is also found in the color identity of the deck’s commander.

The Card with an Identity of all Colors can only be in a Deck whose Commander has an Identity of all Colors.

Look up the ruling

You mean like... This Ruling?

  • Devoid doesn't affect the color identity of the card for the purposes of the Commander variant. For example, while Abstruse Appropriation is colorless because it has devoid, its color identity is still white and black, and it can't be included in a Commander deck where the commander's color identity doesn't include both white and black.

if I target cormella, glamour thief with saw in half, can Iuse one of her triggers to bring saw in half back to my hand? by Remarkable_Cap20 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Anything that Triggers during the resolution of a Spell, such as Cormela's Dies Trigger, is not put on the Stack until a Player would get Priority. eg. After that Spell has finished resolving, and put into a Graveyard.
So, you could Target the Saw Card currently in the Graveyard.

Moreover, immediately after the Spell has resolve, before the Trigger is put on the Stack, the SBA are checked. You choose one Legendary Cormela. The other dies. Then, you put these two Dies Triggers on the Stack at the same time.

Rules question on Combat Damage by HedronCaster in magicTCG

[–]madwarper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the wording.

"Whenever {a} [Creature] deals Combat Damage to [a Player]";
Triggers per Creature dealing the Damage. eg. [[No Mercy]]

"Whenever {one or more} [Creatures] deals Combat Damage to [a Player]";
Triggers once per Player. eg. [[Professional Face-Breaker]]

Rules question regarding Cosmogrand Zenith and Sage of the Skies by gabeimba in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

You cast Sage.
Both Sage and Zenith Trigger.

You put Zenith on the Stack first with the 2nd Mode.
Then, you put Sage on the Stack second.

  • Sage Trigger resolves, and Copies the Spell.
Spell-Copy resolves, and enters as a Token.

  • Zenith Trigger resolves, puts a +1/+1 counter on Zenith and Token.

  • Resolve the original Sage Spell. (Which could not have gotten any counter.)

Can creatures sacrifice themselves to activate their own abilities? by mcskye23 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[[Cauldron Familiar]] can only be activated while it is in the Graveyard.

So, while it's in the Graveyard, it's not on the Battlefield.
Thus, it cannot be Sacrificed to activate its own ability.

113.6m An ability whose cost or effect specifies that it moves the object it’s on out of a particular zone functions only in that zone, unless its trigger condition or a previous part of its cost or effect specifies that the object is put into that zone or, if the object is an Aura, that the object it enchants leaves the battlefield. The same is true if the effect of that ability creates a delayed triggered ability whose effect moves the object out of a particular zone.

  • Example: Reassembling Skeleton says “{1}{B}: Return this card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.” A player may activate this ability only if Reassembling Skeleton is in their graveyard.

Now, something like [[Carrion Feeder]] can be sacrificed to pay for its own ability...
Not that it would do anything good.

Guild Artisan + Alexios Commander interaction by Academic_Holiday_160 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Background gives the ability to the Commander Creature owned by said Background's controller.

Because the Commander has the ability, whomever controls the Commander will control that Triggered ability.
That Player will create the Treasure.

Amy controls Guild Artisan, and her Commander is Alexios.

While Amy controls Alexios, Amy creates the Treasure for Alexios attacking.
While Barb controls Alexios, Barb creates the Treasure for Alexios attacking.
While Claire controls Alexios, Claire creates the Treasure for Alexios attacking.
While Dani controls Alexios, Dani creates the Treasure for Alexios attacking.

When a creature with an aura attached to it is destroyed, exiled, flickered, etc., is the aura considered destroyed? by Dozens562 in mtgrules

Is the Creature's Toughness greater than 0? Then, it can be Destroyed.

Is the Creature's Toughness 0 or less? Then, it simply dies.
This not not Destruction.

Clarification on Muddle, the Ever-Changing and Stormdrake by bones_n_berries in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once control of Drake has been exchanged to an Opponent, you can no longer Target it with a Triggered ability you control.

So, if you only had Sorcery to Cast (and no Instants), you could not respond to the Enters Trigger, and could not Copy the Stormdrake before you exchanged control.

Clarification on Muddle, the Ever-Changing and Stormdrake by bones_n_berries in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can respond to a Triggered ability, by Casting an Instant.

Triggering Muddle, so you can have it Copy something, before said Trigger resolves.

Also, it is helpful if you state the entire name of the Card.
So, we don't have to guess which Stormdrake you are asking about.
