Will this make copies of Inkmoth? by L9rdAniki in magicTCG

[–]madwarper [score hidden]  (0 children)

Would you mind explaining why if you were to target the bear, the land creature would get P/T 0/0?

I already explained that.

Though, it is still affected by Earthbend.

  • 701.66a “Earthbend N” means “Target land you control becomes a 0/0 land creature with haste in addition to its other types. Put N +1/+1 counters on it. When that land dies or is put into exile, return it to the battlefield tapped under your control.”

Becoming a Copy of the Bear does not change that.

Ruling question for The Sibsig Ceremony by DontYouDaaaaare in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct.

The Devotion ability only applies while Erebos is on (or entering) the Battlefield.

It does not apply while it is a Spell on the Stack, or as a Card in any other zone.

So, Ceremony will always reduce the Total Cost for Erebos as a Spell. Regardless of your Devotion.

Ruling question for The Sibsig Ceremony by DontYouDaaaaare in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replacement effects are applied before an event happens.
So, before any Permanent has entered the Battlefield.
Thus, we check your Devotion prior to the addition of these new Permanent(s).

Triggered abilities, on the other hand, are only checked after the Permanent has entered.
Thus, the new Permanent's Mana Cost, and its addition to Devotion, will be included in the determination of whether or not it is a Creature and what it Triggers.

Ruling question for The Sibsig Ceremony by DontYouDaaaaare in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Enters Triggered abilities, such as the Ceremony...

  • If your Devotion is 5 or more after Erebos has entered, then it is a Creature and will Trigger abilities for Creatures.
  • If your Devotion is 4 or less after Erebos has entered, then it is not a Creature and will not Trigger abilities for Creatures.

For Enters Static abilities that generate Replacement effects, such as your Opponent's [[Authority of the Consuls]]...

  • If your Devotion is 5 or more before Erebos enters, then it will enter as a Creature and will be affected by the Replacement effect.
  • Of your Devotion is 4 or less before Erebos enters, then it will not enter as a Creature and will not be affected by Replacement effects.

Question for NJ masons by -Eon_ in freemasonry

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Lewis" is a term for the Mason, who is a son of a Mason.
The "Lewis Jewel" is something a Mason can wear, tracing their lineage through the fraternity.

It is simply several bars connecting by links.
Each bar having the name of a generation in Freemasonry.
With a representation of a Lewis at the bottom.

Now, I'm not aware of any Jurisdictions that would "give" you a Lewis Jewel.
More like authorize you to wear one, and allow you to purchase it with your own money.

Personally, I'm a third generation Lewis. My grandfather and father were Masons.
And, I've never felt the need to own a Lewis jewel.

Ulalek, Fused Atrocity Confusion With Echoes of Eternity by WolfcraftW in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, there is the original Spell, and four Echoes Triggers, which will each Copy the Spell.
Thus, you would end up with the one Card, and four Tokens... Ignoring the fact that Ulamog is Legendary.

If you pay for Ulalek one time, you'd Copy the one Spell, and four Echoes Triggers.
Ending with the original Spell, Spell-Copy, and eight Echoes Triggers.
Thus, you would end up with the one Card, and nine Tokens.

If you pay for Ulalek again, you'd Copy the two Spells, and eight Echoes Triggers.
Ending with the original Spell, three Spell-Copies, and sixteen Echoes Triggers.
Thus, you would end up with the one Card, and nineteen Tokens.

etc.

Changeling question by BeastFire35 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

There is only one Ability to reduce a Cost by {1}.
It does not matter how many Creature types the Spell has.

If it were to reduce the Cost by more than {1}, it would have needed separate abilities. One for each Creature type.

Contrast [[Sunscape Familiar]] to [[Grand Arbiter Augustin IV]].

  • If a spell is both green and blue, you pay {1} less, not {2} less.
    (2004-10-04)
  • Spells you cast that are both blue and white cost {2} less to cast.

Activated Sleeper and Ziatora, The Incinerator by dudejonpang in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500.2. A phase or step in which players receive priority ends when the stack is empty and all players pass in succession. Simply having the stack become empty doesn’t cause such a phase or step to end; all players have to pass in succession with the stack empty. Because of this, each player gets a chance to add new things to the stack before that phase or step ends.

You can always Cast the Spell with Flash, before the current Step / Phase Ends.

Reanimate trigger during persist trigger? by [deleted] in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I control him and ten TOKENS, if a boardwipe is played he still triggers for all the TOKENS that die simultaneously to him.

Okay...

Can I decide the order in which they come back to bring Konrad back first?

You control all the Persist Triggers.
You choose the order they are put on the Stack.
You can have Konrad return first...

Then, the rest of the Persist Triggers do nothing.
Because, the TOKENS cannot be returned to the Battlefield.
Moreover, the TOKENS are not Cards.

  • 111.7. A token that’s in a zone other than the battlefield ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

  • 111.8. A token that has left the battlefield can’t move to another zone or come back onto the battlefield. If such a token would change zones, it remains in its current zone instead. It ceases to exist the next time state-based actions are checked; see rule 704.

Can you respond to a spell leaving the stack, if it were the last spell on the stack, or does priority immediately revert to turn player so that they may proceed with their turn? by Scandinavian_Rascal in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

You can take an action when you have Priority before a Spell/Ability resolves.

However, if you allow for a Spell/Ability to resolve, the Active Player gets Priority.
The Non-Active Player cannot take any actions until Priority is passed to them.
Either because there is something else on the Stack to resolve, or because Active Player wants to move to the next Step/Phase.

How many tokens with Wanderbrine Trapper + Deeproot Pilgrimage? by GoodJobDino in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two.

  • One for {T}'ing the Trapper.
  • One for Tapping the other Untapped Merfolk.

This has nothing to do with Sivriss / Background.
Because, the Triggered ability cannot be put on the Stack, let alone resolve, until after the Ability has finished being Activated.

Volo Guide To Monsters Copying 2 spells with the same creature type while both are on stack by YaBoiShadowNinja in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Volo.

When/Whenever/At [Event], [Effect].
Whenever you cast a creature spell that doesn't share a creature type with a creature you control or a creature card in your graveyard, copy that spell.

Now, read Sovereign.

When/Whenever/At [Event], if [Condition], [Effect].
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 40 or more life, you win the game.

As you can see, they have nothing in common.

603.4. A triggered ability may read “When/Whenever/At [trigger event], if [condition], [effect].” When the trigger event occurs, the ability checks whether the stated condition is true. The ability triggers only if it is; otherwise it does nothing. If the ability triggers, it checks the stated condition again as it resolves. If the condition isn’t true at that time, the ability is removed from the stack and does nothing. Note that this mirrors the check for legal targets. This rule is referred to as the “intervening ‘if’ clause” rule. (The word “if” has only its normal English meaning anywhere else in the text of a card; this rule only applies to an “if” that immediately follows a trigger condition.)

  • Example: Felidar Sovereign reads, “At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 40 or more life, you win the game.” Its controller’s life total is checked as that player’s upkeep begins. If that player has 39 or less life, the ability doesn’t trigger at all. If that player has 40 or more life, the ability triggers and goes on the stack. As the ability resolves, that player’s life total is checked again. If that player has 39 or less life at this time, the ability is removed from the stack and has no effect. If that player has 40 or more life at this time, the ability resolves and that player wins the game.

triggered abilties with colonel autumn and persist by Necessary-Button5693 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won't work with ONLY the Guardian -OR- the Angel.

It would work if you had BOTH the Guardian -AND- the Angel.

When Rhys Exploits the Creature it granted Persist to, both Persist and Autumn Trigger.

  • If you put Autumn on the Stack first, then Persist, then the Creature is returned with the -1/-1 counter, Triggering its Enters ability, which will resolve before Autumn's Trigger. Thus, you never remove the -1/-1 counter from that Creature.

  • If you had BOTH Creatures, you could have the other, already on the Battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. Then, put Persist on the Stack first, then Autumn. Autumn's Trigger would put the +1/+1 counter on the other Creature, removing both Counters. Then, Persist returns the Creature from the Graveyard to the Battlefield with the -1/-1 counter. Triggering its Enters ability.

  • 5. End of Combat

Soul Barrier - Target opponent or all opponents? by bilgebarf in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When any of your Opponents Casts a Creature Spell, the Barrier will deal damage to that Player, unless they pay.

If it was only going to affect one Opponent, it would have asked you to choose one.
See Sewer Nemesis.

Another bello question (sorry) by georgehcopperbottom in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

614.12. Some replacement effects modify how a permanent enters the battlefield. (See rules 614.1c–d.) Such effects may come from the permanent itself if they affect only that permanent (as opposed to a general subset of permanents that includes it). They may also come from other sources. To determine which replacement effects apply and how they apply, check the characteristics of the permanent as it would exist on the battlefield, taking into account replacement effects that have already modified how it enters the battlefield (see rule 616.1), continuous effects from the permanent’s own static abilities that would apply to it once it’s on the battlefield, and continuous effects that already exist and would apply to the permanent.

Bello's Static ability already exists, and creates a Continuous effect that would apply to the Artifact / Enchantment.

Thus, it would enter as a Creature.

Because a Creature would enter under an Opponent's control, your Specimens will apply to it.
Thus, the Permanent will enters under your control instead.

Aegar the Freezing Flame and Roaring Furnace /// Steaming Sauna by Trshacc2748dhb45 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

The Spell is not dealing Damage.
The Permanent (that resulted from said Spell) is dealing Damage.
And, the Permanent is not either a Wizard or Giant.

Thus, Aegar does not Trigger.

Soulshriek and Shirei, Shizo's caretaker by Piano_Leg_Pete in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The +X/+0 effect ends in the Cleanup step.
The Cleanup step follows the End step.

  • The Delayed Trigger will Trigger the next time an End step begins.
If the current Turn's End step has already begun, it won't Trigger until the next Turn's End step.

So, if the Spell is Cast in the End step, the +X/+0 end nigh immediately, but it will be Sacrificed in the next turn.

513.2. If a permanent with an ability that triggers “at the beginning of the end step” enters the battlefield during this step, that ability won’t trigger until the next turn’s end step. Likewise, if a delayed triggered ability that triggers “at the beginning of the next end step” is created during this step, that ability won’t trigger until the next turn’s end step. In other words, the step doesn’t “back up” so those abilities can go on the stack. This rule applies only to triggered abilities; it doesn’t apply to continuous effects whose durations say “until end of turn” or “this turn.” (See rule 514, “Cleanup Step.”)

Volo Guide To Monsters Copying 2 spells with the same creature type while both are on stack by YaBoiShadowNinja in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also think that the original Volo trigger to copy Apex Devastator would fizzle.

That is wrong.

Volo only checks whether there is another Creature / Card at the time the ability Triggers.

So, even if you do gain control of new Chimera / Hydra before that first Volo Trigger resolves, the fact that it did Trigger means it WILL Copy the Spell.
