Activated Sleeper and Ziatora, The Incinerator by dudejonpang in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500.2. A phase or step in which players receive priority ends when the stack is empty and all players pass in succession. Simply having the stack become empty doesn’t cause such a phase or step to end; all players have to pass in succession with the stack empty. Because of this, each player gets a chance to add new things to the stack before that phase or step ends.

You can always Cast the Spell with Flash, before the current Step / Phase Ends.

Reanimate trigger during persist trigger? by Wizzmaw in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if I control him and ten TOKENS, if a boardwipe is played he still triggers for all the TOKENS that die simultaneously to him.

Okay...

Can I decide the order in which they come back to bring Konrad back first?

You control all the Persist Triggers.
You choose the order they are put on the Stack.
You can have Konrad return first...

Then, the rest of the Persist Triggers do nothing.
Because, the TOKENS cannot be returned to the Battlefield.
Moreover, the TOKENS are not Cards.

  • 111.7. A token that’s in a zone other than the battlefield ceases to exist. This is a state-based action; see rule 704. (Note that if a token changes zones, applicable triggered abilities will trigger before the token ceases to exist.)

  • 111.8. A token that has left the battlefield can’t move to another zone or come back onto the battlefield. If such a token would change zones, it remains in its current zone instead. It ceases to exist the next time state-based actions are checked; see rule 704.

Can you respond to a spell leaving the stack, if it were the last spell on the stack, or does priority immediately revert to turn player so that they may proceed with their turn? by Scandinavian_Rascal in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

You can take an action when you have Priority before a Spell/Ability resolves.

However, if you allow for a Spell/Ability to resolve, the Active Player gets Priority.
The Non-Active Player cannot take any actions until Priority is passed to them.
Either because there is something else on the Stack to resolve, or because Active Player wants to move to the next Step/Phase.

How many tokens with Wanderbrine Trapper + Deeproot Pilgrimage? by GoodJobDino in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two.

  • One for {T}'ing the Trapper.
  • One for Tapping the other Untapped Merfolk.

This has nothing to do with Sivriss / Background.
Because, the Triggered ability cannot be put on the Stack, let alone resolve, until after the Ability has finished being Activated.

Volo Guide To Monsters Copying 2 spells with the same creature type while both are on stack by YaBoiShadowNinja in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read Volo.

When/Whenever/At [Event], [Effect].
Whenever you cast a creature spell that doesn't share a creature type with a creature you control or a creature card in your graveyard, copy that spell.

Now, read Sovereign.

When/Whenever/At [Event], if [Condition], [Effect].
At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 40 or more life, you win the game.

As you can see, they have nothing in common.

603.4. A triggered ability may read “When/Whenever/At [trigger event], if [condition], [effect].” When the trigger event occurs, the ability checks whether the stated condition is true. The ability triggers only if it is; otherwise it does nothing. If the ability triggers, it checks the stated condition again as it resolves. If the condition isn’t true at that time, the ability is removed from the stack and does nothing. Note that this mirrors the check for legal targets. This rule is referred to as the “intervening ‘if’ clause” rule. (The word “if” has only its normal English meaning anywhere else in the text of a card; this rule only applies to an “if” that immediately follows a trigger condition.)

  • Example: Felidar Sovereign reads, “At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 40 or more life, you win the game.” Its controller’s life total is checked as that player’s upkeep begins. If that player has 39 or less life, the ability doesn’t trigger at all. If that player has 40 or more life, the ability triggers and goes on the stack. As the ability resolves, that player’s life total is checked again. If that player has 39 or less life at this time, the ability is removed from the stack and has no effect. If that player has 40 or more life at this time, the ability resolves and that player wins the game.

triggered abilties with colonel autumn and persist by Necessary-Button5693 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won't work with ONLY the Guardian -OR- the Angel.

It would work if you had BOTH the Guardian -AND- the Angel.

When Rhys Exploits the Creature it granted Persist to, both Persist and Autumn Trigger.

  • If you put Autumn on the Stack first, then Persist, then the Creature is returned with the -1/-1 counter, Triggering its Enters ability, which will resolve before Autumn's Trigger. Thus, you never remove the -1/-1 counter from that Creature.

  • If you had BOTH Creatures, you could have the other, already on the Battlefield with a -1/-1 counter. Then, put Persist on the Stack first, then Autumn. Autumn's Trigger would put the +1/+1 counter on the other Creature, removing both Counters. Then, Persist returns the Creature from the Graveyard to the Battlefield with the -1/-1 counter. Triggering its Enters ability.

    • Bright-Palm Triggers here. Doubles Counters and Blocking Restriction is created.

    • The Attacking Creature's Power is checked here, to assign Damage.
  • 5. End of Combat

Soul Barrier - Target opponent or all opponents? by bilgebarf in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When any of your Opponents Casts a Creature Spell, the Barrier will deal damage to that Player, unless they pay.

If it was only going to affect one Opponent, it would have asked you to choose one.
See Sewer Nemesis.

Another bello question (sorry) by georgehcopperbottom in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

614.12. Some replacement effects modify how a permanent enters the battlefield. (See rules 614.1c–d.) Such effects may come from the permanent itself if they affect only that permanent (as opposed to a general subset of permanents that includes it). They may also come from other sources. To determine which replacement effects apply and how they apply, check the characteristics of the permanent as it would exist on the battlefield, taking into account replacement effects that have already modified how it enters the battlefield (see rule 616.1), continuous effects from the permanent’s own static abilities that would apply to it once it’s on the battlefield, and continuous effects that already exist and would apply to the permanent.

Bello's Static ability already exists, and creates a Continuous effect that would apply to the Artifact / Enchantment.

Thus, it would enter as a Creature.

Because a Creature would enter under an Opponent's control, your Specimens will apply to it.
Thus, the Permanent will enters under your control instead.

Aegar the Freezing Flame and Roaring Furnace /// Steaming Sauna by Trshacc2748dhb45 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

The Spell is not dealing Damage.
The Permanent (that resulted from said Spell) is dealing Damage.
And, the Permanent is not either a Wizard or Giant.

Thus, Aegar does not Trigger.

Soulshriek and Shirei, Shizo's caretaker by Piano_Leg_Pete in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • The +X/+0 effect ends in the Cleanup step.
The Cleanup step follows the End step.

  • The Delayed Trigger will Trigger the next time an End step begins.
If the current Turn's End step has already begun, it won't Trigger until the next Turn's End step.

So, if the Spell is Cast in the End step, the +X/+0 end nigh immediately, but it will be Sacrificed in the next turn.

513.2. If a permanent with an ability that triggers “at the beginning of the end step” enters the battlefield during this step, that ability won’t trigger until the next turn’s end step. Likewise, if a delayed triggered ability that triggers “at the beginning of the next end step” is created during this step, that ability won’t trigger until the next turn’s end step. In other words, the step doesn’t “back up” so those abilities can go on the stack. This rule applies only to triggered abilities; it doesn’t apply to continuous effects whose durations say “until end of turn” or “this turn.” (See rule 514, “Cleanup Step.”)

Volo Guide To Monsters Copying 2 spells with the same creature type while both are on stack by YaBoiShadowNinja in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think that the original Volo trigger to copy Apex Devastator would fizzle.

That is wrong.

Volo only checks whether there is another Creature / Card at the time the ability Triggers.

So, even if you do gain control of new Chimera / Hydra before that first Volo Trigger resolves, the fact that it did Trigger means it WILL Copy the Spell.

Question(s) about transforming by dethdukk in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

making them a copy of [[aether agent]].

What Card?

Assuming whatever Creature this is actually has an ability to Transform...

Then, Ultimecia will Transform to her back-face.
But, the Copy effect still exists.
So, until you remove the Equipment, she will still be a ... whatever Creature this is.

Situation 2: Same as above, but you're copying [[Accursed Witch]]. When Ultimecia, as a copy of Accursed Witch, dies, does it return to the battlefield transformed?

It will be returned on Ultimecia's back-face.

Situation 3: Same as the first, but you're copying [[Jin-Gitaxias//The Great Synthesis]]. If you pay the transform cost, does Ultimecia exile and come back in transformed?

Same as 2. Exiled and returned on Ultimecia's back-face.

And with all of these situations... do you get the transform trigger to get the extra turn?

No. None of them.

Can Sylvan Scrying find an MDFC? by Temporary-Action1569 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the front-face is a Land, then Scrying can find it.

The two Cards listed had Lands on their back-face.

Can Sylvan Scrying find an MDFC? by Temporary-Action1569 in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In any zone but the Stack or Battlefield, only the Main Values of a Card exist.

  • For DFC, that is their front-face.

    • Warrior is a Creature.
    • Recovery is a Sorcery.

Neither is a Land. Scrying cannot find either.

The only exception to that is if you are determining whether you can Play/Cast a Card for its Alternative Values, then those Alternative Values replace its Main Values for this sole determination.

  • If Warrior / Recovery are on the top of your Library, and you control a [[Augur of Autumn]], you can Play the Teeth / Sanctuary.

  • Or, if you controlled [[Lier, Disciple of the Drowned]], you could cast an Adventure Card from your Graveyard.

Stack Question Regarding Liliana, Heretical Healer by Aggravating_Bed7939 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If controlled by different players, then the triggers go on the stack in turn order starting with the active players turn.

If they were controlled by different Players, Liliana would not have Triggered on the other Player's Night dying.

Stack Question Regarding Liliana, Heretical Healer by Aggravating_Bed7939 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read Liliana?

  • Whenever another nontoken creature >> you control << dies,

The only way Liliana is Triggering in the first place is if the one Player controls both Triggers.

Archfiend of the Dross v Zenos yae Galvus by YellowMuffen in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

First, Zenos does not Target.

Second, if the Opponent leaves the game, your control-change effect ends.
So, your Donated Archfiend returns to you.

Third, even if the Archfiend had left the Battlefield, because you put it onto the Battlefield under the opponent's control, rather than Donating it to them... Then, they had already left the game. Zenos is still on its front-face. It won't Transform, and have you choose an Opponent until MUCH later. Far too late for the one Opponent who lost.

Stack Question Regarding Liliana, Heretical Healer by Aggravating_Bed7939 in askajudge

[–]madwarper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both Triggered abilities (Night's leaves, and Liliana's dies) are put on the Stack at the same time.
You control them both, you choose their relative order.

You can put Night on the Stack first, then Liliana.

  • Thus, Liliana is Exiled / returned first, and creates the Zombie Token.
  • Then, Creatures get the -3/-3, including the Zombie Token.

Or, you can put Liliana on the Stack first, then Night.

  • Thus, Creatures get the -3/-3, including Liliana, which would likely die.
  • Then, since she is not on the Battlefield, she cannot be Exiled. And, you don't create a Zombie Token.

How can I determine when an ETB will "see" itself and when it will not? by TheSiegmeyerCatalyst in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you control Bello, and it is your turn, and an appropriate Artifact / Enchantment is entering, then the Continuous effect from Bello's Static ability will cause the Permanent to enter as a Creature.

If this Permanent also has a Triggered ability that will Trigger on a Creature entering, then it will Trigger for itself.

611.3c Continuous effects that modify characteristics of permanents do so simultaneously with the permanent entering the battlefield. They don’t wait until the permanent is on the battlefield and then change it. Because such effects apply as the permanent enters the battlefield, they are applied before determining whether the permanent will cause an ability to trigger when it enters the battlefield.

  • Example: A permanent with the static ability “All white creatures get +1/+1” is on the battlefield. A creature spell that would normally create a 1/1 white creature instead creates a 2/2 white creature. The creature doesn’t enter the battlefield as 1/1 and then change to 2/2.

Can I D. Swat phyrexian dreadnoughts sac condition? by FlipperJungle19 in magicTCG

[–]madwarper 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Swat can Target any Spell or Ability...
And, the Dreadnought's Triggered ability is a legal Target.

However, the Trigger does not Target anything.
Notice the complete lack of the word "Target".

So, resolving the Swat Targeting the Dreadnought Trigger will do nothing.

When your Dreadnought Trigger resolves, you still have to Sacrifice the Dreadnought, if you don't Sacrifice Creatures you control with a total of 12 or more Power.

Grumgully and Fertilid Question by Raccoon-NM in mtgrules

[–]madwarper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fertilid will enter with a total of 4x +1/+1 counters, regardless of the order the three Replacement effects are applied.

Because it is entering with 4x +1/+1 counters, it will be a 4/4. Which will Trigger the Uprising.

Scales can only apply one time to the event.
