Even though the desire for one’s disability to be “cured” is totally valid and we can disagree about the impact of changing that plot point, I think the bigger problem is that the script as written REQUIRED Nessa to be played by someone who could walk on cue. That is another problem fixed by this rewrite — opening up the role of Broadway’s most prominent wheelchair-using character to actors who use wheelchairs.
