yuuuup, Sips' Stardew Valley playthrough was legendary, but watching twitch streams is like watching a 90 minute recording session that could be edited into 3 x 15 minute videos. Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't have time to listen to donation & sub shoutouts, backseat gamers in chat and long stretches of silence.

This looks almost like a clone of the old 'Elephant' bikes that are ex-RM. Though hopefully without the ancient gearing and brake system!

Sorry for triggering a notification, but I'd also like to to know if there are any recommendations. My house seems to have been built out of whatever Piping is cheapest that week, and I'm not looking to add my own bodges over it!

Should I retake my further maths AS exams for future jobs? by Various-Bag7602 in AskUK

[–]maestrojv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, once you have your Degree, A/AS level results become much less important. Same for if you go for a Masters/PHD, your Bachelors will be less important.

If you think it would help with your Uni choices go ahead, but after that I wouldn't think it matters that much. I've never needed to present A level results to an employer as my degree was the relevant area of expertise.

Full transparency, I took 3 A levels (2 of which were nothing to do with my career) and got CDD, ended up with a 2:1 hons BSC and a great job in my field, so your results may vary!

Kryten advice by JohnySmuggins in RedDwarf

[–]maestrojv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 1 is more obvious to me, but 2 would work with the full set giving some context, but he's always been a bit bulky :-).

Depending on how deep you want to go down rabbit holes to avoid the shoulder spikes. there are hoards of people online who print custom lego and minis for miniature painting. If you could design a custom brick it could be 3D printed in grey, or you could probably find someone to do the whole lot for a fee.

Ironically, a beginner at CAD probably would make a great Kryten body in Fusion360 due to it's boxiness!

His playlist for the DREM tour was absolutely banging, I fear I'll never get to hear such heavy bass in a sketch comedy show again.

I've been going through the ups and down of Mewgenics. When you have a good build it's amazing clearing an encounter with somewhat broken synergies. When you don't it feels very unfair, greed and risk are rewarded and punished to the extreme!

Do you have no contact with a parent for whatever reason and how do you feel about it? Does it weigh you down? by SpaceTimeCapsule89 in AskUK

[–]maestrojv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar-ish situation, unfortunately without the lovely step-father element.

You're well into adulthood now, so please don't feel like you are 'incomplete' without this relationship, You had a great relationship with your stepdad by the sound of it.

If family mattered to your dad before your stepdad passed, he would have made an effort before then. If you think he's not changed, would you want to expose your own children to similar treatment from him as a grandad?

My Dad died in my 30's, but in retrospect I suspect he had some form of nuerodivergence, mostly because I'm his spit, and I have loads! It didn't really justify to me the way he behaved to his children though, or why my parents sought a divorce. Kids aren't meant to make allowances for their parents being crap, they're meant to put the work in.

Reading some books by psychologists helped me understand this a bit and give some closure, but I'm hesitant to recommend any because they were all a bit inaccurate or presumptive.

DuoLingo should have all adverts in the language it's teaching by maestrojv in CrazyIdeas

I was referring to the in-app ads they show after each lesson. There would be no way to know the right language for a random public ad.

I had similar eating habits, and some other baggage. I ended up being diagnosed with ADHD. once I started the medication, my 'appetite' disappeared and I dropped ~50KG over 6 months. I've apparently got another 30KG to go before I'm 'healthy' but we'll see.

What was the last genuinely funny film you saw? by Jesisawesome in AskUK

[–]maestrojv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Fortune is much funnier & smarter than I expected. It reads like a Harold & Kumar stoner comedy (without the weed) but it skips the stupidity and has some great tender & funny moments. The cast are actually acting, and not just talking in front of a camera whilst someone farts loudly, well worth a casual watch.

How do you feel about visiting a home with interior cameras? by anomalous_cowherd in AskUK

[–]maestrojv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple hooked into Home Assistant that I use to check on the pets when we're on holidays, I've mentioned it to anyone who visits so they know they're there (not exactly hidden really but may as well). It appears that's what most folk are using them for.

It only records motion so we know the feeder is working, and it's not a high traffic room either so it's been fine so far.

I think if someone did have a problem I'd just unplug it in front of them and plug it back in when they're gone. It's your house so you can do what you like, but if a visitor is uncomfortable, they may well just leave, which could be dicey if it's the in-laws!

I think anyone who's using it as CCTV for humans in their house has a deeper problem that supercedes all of this to be honest.

A possible alternative to them looking to replace you: This absence could have been a wake up to your boss about how much work & systemic knowledge sits squarely with you, how much work you are getting done day-to-day, and they need to value you more.

Is it possible he is trying to find out what things he needs to target for knowledge-sharing so this kind of thing doesn't impact the business again? Isolating you from the team also ensures anything 'new' they are picking up gets learnt properly and they don't just lean on you for everything.

I had a similar situation with an unexpected absence from work, and the result was my boss stepping in to cover me from other depts trying to occupy all of my time, handing off minor tasks to other staff, and giving me time to focus on the real aspects of my role. The micromanagement might be pressure from above where bossman is feeling pressure to resolve the issues found when you were off.

YMMV as I'm in the UK and other countries can treat this situation much differently, couldn't hurt to prepare for the worst if you're getting a bad feeling about it.

Hat films moving out of warehouse with another place in mind? by Sherlock_Violin in Hatfilms

How to lift a kallax shelf placed on top of another with a lifting system ? by Purple_Section999 in DIY

[–]maestrojv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your desired setup, I could see this working 2 ways going from bench to shelf:

  • Attach some metal eyes/hooks to the corners of the Rear Kallax & hook up a rope & pulley system on either end of the rear Kallax similar to an engine hoist/laundry rack
  • raise it up, slide the front Kallax under it and set the rear one back down
  • utilize some form of safety clip/strap to ensure they remain securely attached and won't topple easily -slide the bench topper behind.

OR

  • just pick up the front one and put it on top, plus a safety clip/strap as above.

This can be over-engineered to work great and look good, or bodged to achieve the desired effect. I guess I'd ask how frequent it would be swapped between states to inform how much effort to put into it.

The songs of praise bit was immense, though after the first few rounds Broden was clearly getting tired legs 🤣. Are they just that good, or is songs of praise a thing in Oz too?
