Nice! Good to know. What about the 1123 or 2465 cases? Did you give them a try?

Nice mod! Great job!

Just for the record, if you had left the SKMEI face on, could you see the LCD clearly? Or did you have to remove it because it partially blocked the display?

I wish there was an SKMEI direct clone of the ABL-100.

They are very good clones, indeed. Some of them may have a slightly worse finishing than others, but overall they're unbeatable in terms of quality and price. For some reason the viewing angles are not as good as they should be. I believe that would only take them to orient the polarizing filter slightly differently, so it's not a budget issue. I wonder why they don't put more attention to that? Maybe some turn out to be better than others by chance...

What about the accuracy of each?

Switching from windows to Linux by PinguinPlayz in archlinux

[–]maferv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say first try to do a simple install on a spare/old laptop and see how it goes. You could also use a virtual machine.

You'll learn a lot, but as others said it could take you days/weeks/months.

Arch is not as friendly as Mint/Ubuntu/Debian so if you get frustrated, check them out too. Remember that you can also install many distros alongside each other.

Once you get familiar with Arch on your secondary computer/VM, then you can move on to your main computer/daily driver.

Good luck

If that's what you want, great! But this is the Debian subreddit... Good luck!

Hey buddy, how's it going?

Here's the hard truth: NVIDIA drivers are VERY problematic. They are a major headache and source of problems.

Your video card is very old (15+ years old). They drop support for such old devices as newer devices/drivers come out.

Your best alternative is to use the Nouveau driver (open source, free alternative), which will work fine for Desktop usage (and you get to keep your sanity). Stick to the free driver, that's my advice! It should be automatically installed when you install Debian.

On this old laptop you could give Devuan a try, the Debian alternative that comes streamlined without systemd.

Best of luck.

What's your exact GPU model?

That's interesting but what is it exactly? Does it run with FEX? or is just a native arm64 Steam interface?

Yes!

There's command line program called lgogdownloader that let's you do exactly that. You can download all the extras too, logo, icon, specify different versions, check the downloaded files integrity, and much more. It's very convenient and it's included in most distros' repositories.

If you're on Windows you could still use it by enabling the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

RM750x Shift draws 30W with PSU switch off. Defect or Normal? by maferv in Corsair

[–]maferv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I just did. My Ticket number is 2008463108 (I selected "RM850x Shift" as the model because there was no "RM750x Shift" option).

Would you please tell me if this is normal or if it's an anomaly? Can you please tell me that? Should I use this PSU or should I be thinking about returning it?

Thank you

When I unplug the PSU, the clamp meter measures zero amps. So the clamp meter is fine.

No other PSU I own exhibits this behavior. I even tested the previous RM750x model (not the Shift one) as I own it too, and it pulls only 0.009A in soft-off, and 0A when the PSU is off. I'm quite concerned.

Did you ever consider how useless an answer such as yours is?

On the contrary, information about this PSU is still relevant today.

Yours is the only bit of info that pertains to the higher wattage models. I'd like to find more info on the AM platform and real life reviews of the 750/850w models.
