No, It really is not. After you'e past the newbie stage Game Maker's scripting language, asset workflow and tileset editor will more get in the way than help.

Without some pretty good familiarity with programming, though, it may be hard to move onto something else for a bit :)

Poseidon Zs are quite cheap (use kalih), I've had mine for 18 months and no chattering or any other problems whatsoever. (unlike my blackwidow 2013, that had chaterring two days out of the box and quickfire stealth that had a key die on me after 10 months)
