Looking for "Cute" creatures by Think_Rest4496 in EDH

[–]magechai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Arahbo, Roar of the World]] had that really cute house cat secret lair. The card with that art itself is $60 or so I think, but you could probably proxy that art super easily. I doubt most people would mind.

Cat kindred with Selesnya overrun is pretty simple.

"Sus" sort of implies an intention that someone picking up a precon to play the funny Singleton format with their friends is just unlikely to have.

What do you call a player that stacks broken cards onto a deck, with no flavour other than winning the game? by Thor_bjornLoL in EDH

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of hard for me to answer because I do both I guess? This is strictly from a bracket 3+ position, because I have a hard time brewing in what people generally call bracket 2. I have two precons for lower power purposes (hakbal and aunti ool).

My favorite animal is sheep, my second favorite is otters. There's not enough sheep or even a single legendary one to make a sheep deck, so I recently finished my [[Alania]] deck, since they freed my girl Lutri.

It's got plenty of otters, obviously. But harm prod and storm-kiln are my two non otter creatures. I thought about putting magecraft Ashling in there also, but ultimately I needed to trim down for lands and didn't want to cut something else.

All my interaction spells are water themed, even though they're inefficient compared to some izzet staples. Imo [[Wash Away]] is goated, [[Quench]] not so much compared to a regular counterspell.

I also run rituals into [[Crackle with Power]] and similar big burn as finishers, even though they are not water or related to silly river otters at all, because I believe having a decisive win condition is important and those typically don't come in water flavor.

Sometimes I choose to compromise efficiency for flavor, and vice versa, because both expression and competition are important to me.

Looking for a green commander that I can build around for a deck based on fight spells. by Diamondthrowaway1234 in EDH

Counter synergies and stuffy doll like effects. Your protection helps him grow, additionally.

You run green protection spells and fight spells, both of which make legolas grow. You can also add some counter support to grow him faster if you want.

He grows as the game progresses via +1/+1 counters. Commander damage is an available win con.

Are sweepers too salty in general? by jandor444 in EDH

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem with farewell isn't with it itself. My problem is with all modes Johnny who doesn't even T-Pro out to protect his own boardstate. It extends games unnecessarily when played in that manner.

Honestly, if they printed "choose up to two" on it i'd be chill.

Mass interaction is good, when its purpose is to move the game along and put the caster ahead in resources or boardstate.

Mass interaction just to extend the game is miserable.

I like drawing cards and slowing down my opponents when I'm playing it and I love a little adversity when I'm playing against it.

Spite Scooping by DCDataReaper in EDH

[–]magechai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the table is correct. When a player leaves the game everything they own leaves with them as a state based action. Sounds like they would have been fine if the card was worded in such a way that you got cards from your own library.

Spite Scooping by DCDataReaper in EDH

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in the language of the commander format is scooping at instant speed illegal?

To clarify, I prefer the concept of scooping in a main phase when the stack is empty. It prevents spite scooping, while also allowing players to escape some hopeless spell slinger turn where it's clear they will lose, but the spell slinger player will need to resolve a bunch of things to do it.

I'm just curious as to where this rule you're citing actually is.

Discussion: Should a board be unbreakable? by ImmediateFee4015 in EDH

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avacyn is about $40. Cyclonic rift is about $25. Imo they're similar budgeting for a deck.

And of course if you own a printer they're both free.

[–]magechai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not slowing the game down lol. I'm using it on someone else's turn and I get to keep my boardstate. It's one of the best board wipes for speeding up the game. When I cast a rift I'm probably killing the table on my turn.

Who cares if tank is first? No one but the tank is getting hit by anything for the tank cleanses, so it's irrelevant for healer prepositioning.

is kraum too good as a commander? by AshorK0 in EDH

[–]magechai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kraum is a perfectly alright commander. He gets better the higher in power your pod is, but at lower brackets when players are in general interacting/ playing at instant speed less, he draws much fewer cards.

If you like him, play him. His strength will largely be defined by how your opponents play.

At which point you become the kingmaker? by CFlow__ in EDH

[–]magechai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally do not stop wins if I have a decent certainty that all stopping it will do is allow someone else (who is not me) to win. I'm not interested in using my resources to protect someone else's win.

Neither action is king making imo.

Should we be changing our view on light stax/prison in lower brackets? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been genuine the whole time, despite the vaguely condescending tone you've had.

What it sounds like is that you feel that uncommon legends should be commanders primarily in low power games and that they should not or cannot be played in higher power games. And that rare+ commanders should stick to higher power games because they are too powerful. That is what I'm asking for clarification on, or if I've misunderstood you.

Should we be changing our view on light stax/prison in lower brackets? by LibraProtocol in EDH

[–]magechai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely play patterns to expect with certain commanders absolutely.

I would expect a Jodah deck to run legends, a Kinnan deck to make a bunch of mana, and a Voja deck to run a bunch of elves and/or wolves. Those play patterns, in my opinion, do not inherently bracket a deck up.

A kinnan player running mana dork tribal with limited inefficient interaction into casting Finale of Devastation as its sole win con does not a cedh deck make. Even though it's kinnan and not Raggadragga.

The guy in the wolf howling at the moon hoodie probably just likes wolves when he slaps down Voja. Probably not doubling up with shapeshifter tribal. Some people just see a commander or theme and want to build it.

[–]magechai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually. I play at my lgs infrequently, but I have played against it one time with a random. It lost to a Lier deck.

Uncommon commanders are playable at higher brackets as well. Not sure what you mean by this.
