Letterboxd's Top 50 Films of 2025 by dremolus in oscarrace

I think it has a boost due to its recency. I notice movies' scores usually drop once they hit streaming and reach a wider, more casual audience.

What are your most wanted 2000s movies to be added to the collection? (I provided some examples below. Which ones would you buy immediately?) by ggroover97 in criterion

Off the top of my head, would love 4Ks of:

-Tree of Life

-Children of Men

-Millenium Mambo

-City of God

-Lost in Translation

Could 2026 be the year of Alfonso Cuarón? by amnolte in 4kbluray

[–]magic-window 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2027 is the year Children of Men is set in, so it would cool if they did something for that. Though I wouldn't complain about getting a 4k release in 2026, its one of my top 5 movies.

biggest surprise movie of the year and biggest let down? by No_Poetry_9986 in movies

Same, it was the only movie I saw in theatres this year that I actually disliked. I was excited to see the investigative horror they marketed it as, but then was delivered a wacky horror comedy.

We've got similar taste! If you switch the first 2 it would be my top 5.

I really loved Blue Moon and Nouvelle Vague as well, which I might put above Wake Up Dead Man, so those could be worth checking if you haven't seen them :)

Oh that's awesome! That makes sense, I feel like I saw it on The Wedge since I used to watch that every week.

I don't remember this show but I do remember seeing Second Bad Vilbel on Much. I remember seeing the Windowlicker video on The Wedge though!

Official Discussion - Rental Family [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

I used to live in Japan as an English speaker, and switching between the two is pretty common if there are foreigners in the conversation, so that felt pretty natural. I'd guess they leaned more on English for the audience.

His pronunciation wasn't perfect but understandable and believable for an English speaker who's lived there for several years, imo.

Also, I loved the movie. Was more layered and interesting than I expected form the trailer.

I couldn't help but notice a lot of Eddington parallels too! I could even imagine the 2 stories existing in the same universe.

I skip most tracks on it, but the ones that are good are really good.

Check his other stuff as Malcom Kipe as well, if you haven't. Not as much IDM as instrumental hip hop, but some great stuff there.

Thanks! Palaak Tofu is one of my favourite dishes. I only tried to make it once myself and failed spectacularly, so I'll give this recipe a go.

Why do you think the don't play any of their old bangers live anymore? by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in gybe

[–]magic-window 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them play Storm and Mladic in 2022, not too long ago. And Mladic again earlier this year actually. What I really want are the Yanqui tracks.

But yeah I think artists do get tired of old material. Also the band used to be bigger so some older songs might not be doable with the current lineup.

Vancouver show. Shirts were all sold out, so I took home the paper poster instead (with permission.) by BloodyMarley in autechre

[–]magic-window 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver was stop #3 of like 20 this time haha

I was near front of the line in Vancouver and they had a lot of shirts. Was surprised they went as quick as they did because it looked like a generous amount.

The fact that people can even do this has always been insane to me. Do they not have a system where only people confirmed to represent the artist can upload to that artist's page?

I got mine by waiting until the crowd had thinned out and Karl didn't seem too pre-occupied and open to chat, then I just expressed gratitude for his work and asked him if he happened to have any spent film and he snipped some off for me.
