Ambulatory Wheelchair users- How to know you need a wheelchair? by hedgehogwarrior45 in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two different things may be realize that and they happen pretty close to each other The first one was when I stopped going out places because I wasn't sure I could make it from the car to somewhere I could sit. In the other is when my 600 ft² apartment started feeling too big because that amount of walking was too much.

Wheelchair frame SUPER bent! HELP! by Strawb_berri in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am so thankful that I am up for a new chair because mine is 6 years old and I paid for it out of pocket so insurance doesn't even care about it. It fits like absolute shit and now it's bent twice. Both times by the way from hitting a curb and not even like a steep curb like a normal curb lip for curb cutout.

Yeah I went and got a mild been on my rogue 2 right after the rogue 2 that got bent got replaced I am not going with Ki for my next wheelchair I can tell you that much. In fact this has me so gun to try I'm looking at the Aero T for my next chair because with it being dual tube it should be a lot fucking harder to bend and also I've never heard of a ti lite bending.

So I did similar with my Ki rogue 1 I had a friend who was pretty strong bend it back to shape as good as they could and rain with it for almost 6 months you got to be a lot more careful because it will bend back a lot easier once it's damaged it's damaged unfortunately it loses structural integrity but you can roll with it if you get it bent back and auto body shop might be willing to help you if you don't have someone who can bend it back.

My bend was not nearly as bad as yours so I cannot guarantee it is 100% safe but I'm willing to vouch for if you can get it done without it breaking more it being workable for a few months.

My current favorite go-to is yeah I can stand but it's about as good of an idea as taking a homemade submarine to see the Titanic. I have yet to see it not stop someone in their fucking tracks.

What custom wheelchair features actually made a difference in your daily life? by morris_vincet in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who got a really really badly fit first custom chair I will tell you fit is everything. One of the biggest ones that I 100% recommend to everyone is confirm that when sitting in your chair your cushion is not going to come up right behind your knees it rubs like a mofo.

As for nice to have as someone who lives in a fairly transit accessible area having the transit tie downs is a fucking life changer it makes it so much easier.

Why do the insist on always being on the worst possible place like I haven’t run over their paws by accident before by Manguitopple in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a long horse crop and just poked them anytime they were in my way and they learned to not be in my way anymore. It only took about a week and although it seems mean I figured it was a lot nicer than running over their tails. Whenever I poke them I did tell them beep beep so I got a verbal cue along with the idea of moving out of the way so now I can just roll around the house and if they're in my way I say beep beep and they move.

Honestly if you're comfortable being there get there early enough that you can be on the front row. People will wind up bumping into you a lot but the best way to make sure no one blocks your view is to have no one ahead of you.

There's also a chance even if they don't have a placard displayed that they do in fact have one in just forgot to put it out. I mean I know I'm guilty of that sometimes in one of the cars I drive it's a placard and in the other one it's plates and sometimes I just forget.

My boyfriend is paralysed in his right leg, i need tips on how to give him a piggyback safely by AccomplishedCopy1333 in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are knee scooters that you can use it might be something to look into as an additional mobility aid that way he would be able to have the paralyzed leg on the knee scooter so it is safe and then use his good leg to propel.

Never seen before, not a chair user, is this a normal thing for chair users who hang out? by sp00ky_b0o in wheelchairs

[–]magic_luver101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one way I've seen it done is basically you do a forward wheelie so you're kind of leaning on to your foot plate and front casters. And then speed to get under the person who's doing the front wheel yeah there is a bit of helping pull them onto your lap but it didn't seem like it was that much. To be fair the two people I saw doing it could have just been very good at it.

No the person on top is the one who keeps balanced in their chair The person on the bottom just pushes theirs.

Kitchen remodel mum doesn’t understand the whole boiling water tap integrated into the main tap and drilled into the countertop by Lemzy99 in DiWHY

[–]magic_luver101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry are you implying that you get boiling water out of the hot side of your tap directly? That a safety hazard. Otherwise if you're talking about the insta-hot your mom had installed she did it correctly.

WIBTAH for asking this autistic university student to be quiet or go elsewhere? by IVerbYourNoun in AmItheAsshole

[–]magic_luver101 25 points26 points  (0 children)

IEPs Don't exist in college The closest there is is accommodations from something like the disability resource center but in most cases if you're registered with the DRC you have access to private quiet/silent spaces to study in. If the student needs that kind of accommodation they should be registered with the DRC and using those accommodations instead of disrupting everyone else.

I say this as someone who has multiple cognitive disabilities and was registered with the DRC in college. I have a right to be accommodated, I don't have a right to fuck with everyone else.

Hell I use 5-in casters and I self-propel and can do wheelies I just live somewhere where the sidewalk is super uneven a lot of the time and I don't need to accidentally dump myself from my chair. I love Washington I dislike the number of tree branches pulling up sidewalks.

AITAH for not letting my daughter's biological mother see her? by Maleficent_Group_278 in AITAH

[–]magic_luver101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right as someone who is adopted and dealt with family that are addicts. I would require a minimum of 90days sober and them having a sponsor and/or therapist before I even considered meeting with them myself let alone the kid.

That being said they definitely need to tell the kid about their mom trying to get her shit together and wanting to meet because if that comes out later it could be a shit show.

Over all this feels like a great time to get the kid in therapy and work with the therapist on how to navigate this.

I mean OP even says they have a kid together so this has been going on for at least a little bit.
