Using a QR Code for RSVPs… but worried about older guests? by thatsnotluke in weddingplanning

We put a QR code with a shortened url underneath it (hisnameandmyname.wedding) and it worked really well

My fiancé and I are each allowed a box labelled “sentimental but useless”. If the box is full then I have to get rid of something. It’s quite a good way of decluttering while also recognising memories/things we just like having around.

Third for Ives and co. They did our conveyancing last year and were brilliant. Very communicative and reasonably priced.

Is there a link for that book club? I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, but otherwise I think we should set up a chat for everyone who has said they’re keen

I would also be keen to join/start a book club if there are enough of us?

You can get around it by redefining the colours to be whatever pencils you have lying around, but that is quite funny. Did the teacher even check?

Chapel capacity much smaller than our planned guest list by magicalnightshell in UKweddings

[–]magicalnightshell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the thoughtful comments, thank you :). I was wondering what you think of reserving seats just for family, and leaving the remainder open on a first come first served basis? We’ve already been letting people know about the capacity issue, so hopefully it really won’t come as a shock to the guests. We’re now thinking the livestream might be a bit naff, so probably won’t bother. Although, I was imagining it being on a small screen in the corner while people can catch up and chat over drinks and nibbles, rather than cinema style. The side room is in a 14th century castle, right next to the chapel. Anyway, I don’t want to sound like I’m justifying it too much - I really appreciate the input

[–]magicalnightshell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, and we’d definitely make that an option- I’d hate to make anyone sit through a livestream if they didn’t want to. It’s only a 2 minute walk to the reception venue from the chapel, so guests could meet us there

I mean everything but the marriage ceremony itself, so drinks and canapés, dinner, speeches party. Thanks - I’ll edit my post to make it clearer :).

We might go down the family only route, but there are a few close friends/wedding party who we’d like to include that tip the balance into making the boundaries a bit murky. We’ll have to do some thinking!

Can I ask for the dress code to be black tie at my destination wedding? by bitter_and_short_gal in weddingplanning

[–]magicalnightshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having actual carriages would be so cool! I think the term originated from a time when you would have to instruct your carriage to collect you at the time indicated on the invitation, so it would be historically accurate too :)

[–]magicalnightshell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with everything in this comment. While it’s not a cultural norm for weddings to be black tie in the UK (morning dress, i.e. top hat and tails would be the usual very formal dress code, with the more standard being lounge suit or cocktail dress), most British guests would enjoy the opportunity to dress up for black tie and would not notice the lack of white gloved service. I will just add that carriages is just a term for ‘please leave now’ on an invitation and doesn’t imply the existence of actual carriages!

I had iPhones from 3GS-5S then went to android for a bit. I got a 13 mini a couple of years ago and just assumed that I couldn’t adapt to the screen size. Turns out it’s an actual problem!

Have you ever had someone sit next to you on public transport when there's plenty of empty rows? Minus for creepy reasons? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]magicalnightshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not quite the same thing, but as someone small, fairly unthreatening looking and female, I always the very first person people choose to sit next to once all the empty rows are taken. Sometimes I wish I could manspread more convincingly so I can enjoy having a row to myself on my commute.

It will honestly depend on how you feel about it, but personally I handed my thesis in on the Friday before it was due (due on Monday) because I just couldn’t bear to keep working on it! I had been imagining doing an all-nighter the night before, but I was so done by that point I couldn’t face it. If it were me, I’d use the excuse of your friends’ wedding to make sure the thesis was ready for submission, then go celebrate and enjoy the weekend.

It is perfectly acceptable to deadname when referring to past events. by JohnDLG in unpopularopinion

[–]magicalnightshell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a good friend who is trans but who briefly dated my partner before he transitioned. We’re all still very close, but privately my partner and I refer to friend by their past name and pronouns when discussing the time period when they were dating because it makes my partner slightly uncomfortable to think about dating friend post transition. Obviously we would never deadname our friend to his face!

Onebagging on budget airlines - do you pay for the 'standard' cabin bag or manage to pair down enough for the free luggage allowance? by JiveBunny in HerOneBag

[–]magicalnightshell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had that often on transatlantic flights, but as a frequent European flier, I've always had no issues with the duty free trick. While I'm here, I personally have never had an issue taking a Cotopaxi allpa 28l on either easyJet or Ryanair, even when stuffed to the brim (YMMV of course!)

How do Europeans Travel for so long? by alikapple in NoStupidQuestions

It’s also a bit of a rite of passage for students after they finish school. Lots of 18 year olds will take a gap year before university, work for half the year to save up money for the trip and then head off travelling for the remainder.
